Much loved #northhobart cafe @sweetsassafrashobart hung up their aprons and shut down the coffee machine today for the final time. I know, i know, this cant be happening, but unfortunately it is. Its a real testament to @mayamcdonell and @isisstpierre and their team that over the past two years theyve created such a devoted community at Sweet Sassafras. The... bunches of flowers, bottles of sparkling, laughter, tears and hugs all round generated a lot of love in the cafe on their final day. The ethos the girls brought to Sweet Sassafras provided some of the initial inspiration for Slow Tasmania. With a commitment to sourcing local produce and supporting seriously local growers, an unerring commitment to reducing and eliminating waste and a genuine emphasis on community building, Sweet Sassafras really walked the talk. You couldnt help but be inspired. Best of luck with your exciting next chapters Isis, Maya and the team. You know you and the cafe will be missed. 13.01.2022 As we wind things up I want to take a moment to shout out to all our farmers and producers. If you loved our food it only tasted that good because of the hard work of these people. Farmers are the hardest working people you will ever meet and they deserve so much more love and appreciation. So next time you need some produce please go straight past the supermarket and go to your local farmers market. Dont barter them down but instead give them a big hug and tell them how fab they are. Why is there no hug a farmer day?!! I dont have enough photos of all our wonderful suppliers, there are many people missing from this collection. But we just wanted to say thanks for everything!
