23.01.2022 It’s especially important, in these times we are living in, to find the things that bring you joy and make them your highest priority. No compromises. Happy Monday everyone, have a beautiful week!

23.01.2022 C O N N E C T I O N... It’s a precious antidote. Being a part of a community is a human need and we each need to find our people; whoever they may be.... Those who are not part of the ‘car scene’ underestimate the sense of community that forms around a build, a club, an event, even a favourite model. Some of the most generous and genuine human beings I've ever met have been found through the automotive world. Suicide is the leading cause of death among people aged 15 - 44 in Australia. It's a fact, a sad fact - but still a fact. But it shouldn’t be that way it doesn't need to stay that way. When we feel connected - physically, socially, emotionally, intellectually or spiritually - we are less susceptible to mental health challenges. Here's to everyone looking out for their mates, not just today, on World Suicide Prevention Day, but every day. There are worse ways to spend your time, money and energy than working on a car, participating in motorsport, or taking photos for the people who do. The snap in my stories is of Peter Gough and I; Peter is from Top Rodz in Melbourne and pictured here is his wonderful Model A. We met at the 2019 Motorex and spent hours talking and laughing before any photos were taken. I can't wait to see that diamond in the rough polished up (metaphorically) at a future event. Next time you see a car you like, stop and chat, say Hello you never know who needs it, it might even be you. #worldsucidepreventionday stayconnected #ruokday If you or anyone you know needs help: Lifelineon 13 11 14 Beyond Blue on 1300 224 636 MensLine AustraliaAustralia on 1300 789 978 Suicide Call Back Service on 1300 659 467 Kids Helpline Official on 1800 551 800 headspace on 1800 650 890 Qlife on 1800 184 527

21.01.2022 You gorgeous ladies

21.01.2022 Love the new flyer Maddi & Midge!

20.01.2022 My First Business Card - Part 2 This image reminds me that fancy equipment is AWESOME, but it's not everything. A photographer's best tool is always their eye. When I got the invitation to shoot top fuel drag racing under lights, I went to the bank and got a loan to buy a camera body with the ISO that I needed to create what was in my head. It paid off! ... Conversely, the image on the front was shot a few months earlier on my first DLSR (Canon EOS Rebel T2i). It was a holiday gift from my then husband, who believed in me before I did. Its first assignment was the Grand Canyon (pretty much my first and last attempt at landscape photography!) but when it got home to Australia it was pointed firmly at my favourite subject: cars. This shot is about the joy of getting intimate with the details of a lovingly built (or restored) vehicle. Spending long moments pouring over the intricate parts, getting lost in the reflections and geometry, tracing hoses and cables around an engine bay, being it to understand the engineering or appreciate the aesthetics.

20.01.2022 I admire anyone who chooses their purpose over the expectations of others, chooses courage over comfort, chooses change instead of the status quo. Change is always uncomfortable, but sometimes we can be aided in changing; in a positive way by a negative life event. Being at rock bottom can be very motivating. I can vouch for the liberation of defining yourself anew after a catastrophic identity implosion, but I have even greater admiration for those who do it from a plac...e of success. For these people, changing tack involves massive opportunity cost. Going out on a high also means greater relative risk. When the path of least resistance (i.e. keep on doing what you've always done) is a pretty bloody good one, it takes extra courage to step out in a new direction. I admire Mel, not just for the significance of her mission, but for taking action towards it in the face of her existing achievements. I bought one of Mel's bracelets because I wholeheartedly support the work of Beyond Kokoda and Lifeline. I chose the Mateship one because I believe that the greatest protective factor we have against mental health challenges is CONNECTION - and that's what true mateship is: Connectedness. Trust. Respect. Empathy. Listening. And being heard; especially when nobody is talking. Just being there for one another. This bracelet reminds me not only to be a mate, to look out for my mates, but to let people help me; to accept my fallibility and receive the help that comes from mateship.

20.01.2022 Today is World Gratitude Day Research shows that people who express daily gratitude in their lives are more optimistic and happier within themselves. On #worldgratitudeday what are 2 things you are most grateful for?

20.01.2022 #throughtheeyesoftheartist Seeing the world differently is one of my strengths. Making a mundane scene come alive.... Hunting out the intimate moments in a chaotic event. Accentuating the aesthetics in a functional object. Whether you're buying a diamond or a machine that digs it up, you are subconsciously motivated by emotion. Make no mistake, price, specifications and warranties will be at the front of the consumer's conscious mind, but they will always be influenced by how a product makes them feel! Product photography isn't purely descriptive. Automotive sales is the perfect example, because the market is so competitive and the product is so often linked to the consumer's identity. When the specs are close and the deals are comparable, the final decision will come down to a gut feeling and the one that FEELS the most desirable will win. So, what does your front end loader say about you?

19.01.2022 Brad, thank you for your kind words. It's always an awesome experience photographing your GoPro genius #behindthescenes. These pics from that time we were part of the media crew for XDrift Industries at World Time Attack, Sydney, 2019.

15.01.2022 Initiation by Fire This week I am on location at the The Enlighten Co 'Emerge’ retreat and what a way to start!!! What an incredibly beautiful letter by our fearless leaders Ella & Elle thank you so much for such a moving and thoughtful gesture

12.01.2022 David Yarrow Photography speaks about the phenomena where the greater the proficiency the photographers shooting the same subject, the more similar the shots. (It's a type of convergence of convention, where the ideal technical solution to the brief is arrived at by the majority of photographers.) His first moment of this realisation was upon reviewing the pictures coming out of the press room at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary. He relates his concern for the sustainabili...ty of the photographer's profession when the supply of similar products is so high. Yarrow's solution was radical creativity. Decades before he became renowned for intricately constructed visual narratives, Yarrow brought an artist's eye to documentary photography. The unusual angle, careful timing, intense curiosity and creative risk taking are also trademarks of my style. I remember deciding very early into my journey that I would not spend my days sat on a fence at the 'perfect' corner of a racetrack. As exciting as it is to be between two thundering top fuel dragsters as they launch, the best photos from that viewpoint are - by definition - the same. My effort has been invested in learning the flow of a race team so that I can insert myself into the inner workings of a pit, workshop or roadside repair. My favourite shots happen when I am in the right place at the right moment, looking in a direction that nobody else is. - Images of Darren Morgan Racing shot during the the Sydney Nitro Championships in May 2013 at Sydney Dragway. I totally recommend Yarrow's interview by Tim Ferris https://tim.blog/2020/06/27/david-yarrow-transcript/

07.01.2022 Christmas present from my beloved. (My absolute favourite type of gift - practical yet utterly luxurious!) I have loved my Spider belt since I first discovered the single holster in 2013. Back then it saved me from the debilitating headaches that I was getting from neckstraps. Thanks to my recent upgrade to the dual system, I get to enjoy having a long and short lens set up at my fingertips simultaneously! It allows me an extra level of responsiveness - both to the client..., as well as my own creative spontaneity. In case you're not immediately convinced, here are some more of my favourite benefits of Spider holster: Frees up my hands; arranging props, directing traffic and drinking coffee(!) It doesn't bounce when I run (...like a lunatic to get a shot)! It can be locked for security in high-theft environments. (Or when I feel a cartwheel coming on!) It is less conspicuous/obtrusive as it sits below eye-line when I'm talking to the client/model. Puts the weight of my camera to the strongest area of my body (hips) and at a low centre of gravity (especially useful when I'm scrambling over rocks, heavy machinery or extras) Super-heavy-duty and solid! (I never wonder if it's going to become unclipped or let go of my most expensive asset) No sweaty patches and chafing bits (like I used to get when using a harness system) Works perfectly with my @The Real Santa elf costume (or any other specific attire I may need to don).

07.01.2022 It’s hard work being my shoot assistant. One simply does not have enough hands to hold lights, carry hats AND eat one's body weight in snow peas.... Thanks to my beautiful client; author, culinary innovator and wellness guide; Alana Steike, and the wonderfully generous donor of our heavenly location; Jumping Red Ant Farms. I can't wait to share the results of this awesome shoot. deets to come!

06.01.2022 Multi-tasking is my jam! Some of my favourite jobs have come from the opportunity to use both my photographer and model personas in the one collaboration; here is a little #behindthescenes of me doin’ my thing, and the supremely talented (and powerful, and oh-so-fun) Lauren Violet. (Gosh I love her!) Stay tuned for my photos of Lauren from both the this day, and another mind-blowing shoot I did for her in a forest recently. I'm so grateful for the amazing people I get to ...create with everyday... it fills my soul to the brim. Do you prefer the black and white or colour?

06.01.2022 Behind the scenes at Summernats I am not your average photographer. I do not fit into a tidy box of 'niche’! Passion.... Purpose. Power. My mission is to collaborate with passionate people to envisage, create and apply powerful imagery that achieves their unique purpose. I see through the eyes of the artist. This is characterised by: a) intense curiosity (translates into noticing exquisite detail and layers of meaning) b) propensity for unusual/unconventional/quirky (at times even unique) perspectives c) an indefatigable quest for the aesthetic in the ordinary/mundane/'ugly' If would like to discuss your needs & vision - no matter how big, small or unique - get in touch today!

06.01.2022 My first photography business card - Part 1 of 2 I will ALWAYS love this card. It represents the first, and perhaps most significant, leap of faith in my journey to today. This is the front image; the head of Darren Morgan's championship-winning top fuel dragster. I shot it mid-rebuild in the pit at the 2013 Sydney Nitro Champs. It was my first chance to shoot behind the scenes at a national motorsport event and my performance anxiety was bouncing off the limiter! I look back on that opportunity with extraordinary gratitude.

05.01.2022 Branding shoot tip: Bring a friend! Many people feel apprehensive about their personal branding shoot. And that's totally natural - being in front of the lens is not a frequent part of most people's day to day work. That said, putting yourself in your brand imagery is absolutely essential to connecting to your customers!... Part of my job as your photographer is to make that experience positive & here is my top tip for taking your shoot from painful to playful: One of the best ways to calm those nerves is to bring along a friend for support (moral and practical!). Not only can they help you choose your next outfit, fix your hair and remind you to breathe, that extra person can also add crucial interest and interaction to your photos. They may be off camera, helping to make your smiles and eye contact genuine, or right there with you posing as your colleague or client.

05.01.2022 If there was a photographer unicorn, David Yarrow would be it. He is simultaneously technically-brilliant, highly-relevant, poignantly-artistic, utterly-charitable and unapologetically-commercially-successful. I was alerted to his recent appearance on Tim Ferris' podcast by my friend and fellow agitator of ideas, Lara Wilde. In this extended chat, he humbly attributed many of his achievements as an artist to his (ostensibly antithetical) decision to choose banking over photog...raphy early in life. Yarrow's brilliant mixture of humility, humour and raw intellect made this a podcast worth following through to the end, regardless of one's interest in photography. I recommend it. While you listen, do yourself a favour get lost in the David Yarrow Photography online gallery - it's akin to travelling in these strange times. - Images of www.instagram.com/darrenmorganracing shot during the Sydney Nitro Championships in May 2013 at Sydney Dragway Darren Morgan

05.01.2022 Isabella who? Prior to getting this assignment, I confess I had never heard of Borgward. I’m now quite smitten with the curves of his 1958 Isabella. Did you know that Borgward was very nearly a household name?

03.01.2022 4 reasons why Curiosity is important. Curiosity is an important trait of genius. I don’t think you can find an intellectual giant who is not a curious person! "The important thing is to not stop questioning... Never lose a holy curiosity.... ~ Albert Einstein ~ Why is Curiosity important? Here are 4 reasons why: It makes your mind active instead of passive. Curious people always ask questions and search for answers in their minds. Their minds are always active. Since the mind is a muscle which becomes stronger through continual excercise, the mental exercise caused by curiosity makes your mind stronger and stronger. It makes your mind observant of new ideas. When you are curious about something, your mind expects and anticipates new ideas related to it. It opens up new worlds and possibilities. By being curious you will be able to see new worlds and possibilities which are normally not visible. They are hidden behind the surface of normal life, and it takes a curious mind to look beneath the surface and discover these new worlds and possibilities. It brings excitement into your life! The life or curious people is far from boring. It’s neither full nor routine. There are always new things that attract their attention. Instead of being bored, curious people have an adventurous life. I hope you are having a beautiful week full of curiosity, intrigue and excitement... taken during my last trip to #italy

03.01.2022 The universe is at its best when we all get to align our efforts with our passions. Meeting Corrine has changed my life. Not only has she created a beautiful insight into my portfolio and professional practices that helps me connect with my clients, she also defends my honour, helps me channel my unwieldy creativity into useful directions and keeps me sane. ... Smart. Sassy. Committed. Courageous. Corrine built her social media business With Amore Collective ahead of the curve, fuelled by the believers and the haters alike, and yet she never rests on her laurels. The name of her agency is apt, because everything she does, she truly does from her heart (with the support of her puppy Harlo). Thank you Corrine, on behalf of all your clients, we love you!

01.01.2022 Tuesday truths! For some fun here are random things you may not know about me: ~ Jesse from #sweetspotphotography ~... I love to eat. I love to work out (mainly in direct proportion to my love for eating, but also because it keeps me sane and mentally tough) One of my eyes is so severely short-sighted that I can't use it for photography. I have a brother and a sister, both of whom are younger, smarter and cooler than me. I have been a teacher and trainer of various things ranging from finger painting to military intelligence. I miss owning a ute. I was schooled entirely by distance education. I spend far (far) too much money on coffee. I am very bad at housework, especially laundry. I am a bit of a dork and enjoy taking the mickey out of myself (see above pictures for evidence). Don’t forget to enjoy the little things and have a good laugh at yourself sometimes... life can be all too serious sometimes so let’s have some fun!!! Ps. Image credit to Liam from www.instagram.com/william_liam_carroll whom I bullied into including these silly shots into an otherwise artistically outstanding shoot.
