25.01.2022 'Digital security is a form of harm reduction. In this training we share tips and tools on how to lock down social media to make any revealing or personal information more difficult for malicious actors to find. If you get doxxed, it is NOT your fault. As we discuss in the training, everyone’s threat models look different. What works for some people, may not work for you! No one knows you, or your needs better than you. Please take what actions and advice work for you! What f...ollows is information and SUGGESTIONS based upon our experiences and research. What is Doxxing? Doxxing or Doxing is typically a cyber attack in which someone with malicious intent releases personal, private, or stigmatized information about someone without their consent, knowledge or control. Doxxing is a form of abuse and harassment in which information is collected and shared through a combination of web searches, reverse image searches, combing through social media, use of the way back machine, publicly available databases, hacking and social engineering. Doxxing rarely takes place because of information found on a single website. It is most often piecing together bits of information from all sorts of open source information found online. Doxxing can often leave an individual feeling fearful, vulnerable and alone. So we want to share some concrete tips on how you can take action to protect your private information online! All of this is covered more in depth in the training, but below are a few tips and resources if you are just browsing quickly.' https://hackinghustling.org/doxxing-prevention-harm-reduct/

21.01.2022 'In March, Scarlet Alliance, along with other Australian sex worker organisations, formed a working group known as the National Cabinet of Whores. Meeting every week, the Cabinet of Whores has developed advice around financial support, pandemic restrictions and back-to-work requirements. It has also developed harm reduction advice for in-person work, such as not working if feeling unwell, screening clients and washing hands after touching money. These materials have also be...en translated into Chinese, Thai, Korean and Vietnamese. The Cabinet of Whores has been crowdfunding to try and provide extra financial support for sex workers who have lost income and issued advice around transitioning to online, non-contact work. This includes webcam and phone sex work, offering social time on the phone or online and selling pictures and videos.' https://theconversation.com/how-the-national-cabinet-of-who

19.01.2022 '''Emotional labor has become a catch-all phrase for the work women tend to carry in relationships, from household chores, to offering therapy to their emotionally stilted partners. But Arlie Hochschild’s original definition in 1983 in her book Managed Heart, was designed to capture how service workers manage and suppress their own feelings to draw clients into the right mood to spend money. It’s the invisible and demanding work that fuels our economy. The mask capitalism we...ars to the world. Luring people into the state of mind to suspend doubts about consuming relies on the ability to control difficult and demanding customers. In his review on the function of emotional labor, Sushanta Mishra discussed how workers had an easier time mollifying their clients’ arduous emotions when they came off sociable, pleasant, and likable. Laborers accomplish this by deep acting, which Hochschild defined as the effort of changing how you feel so you display an emotion that will positively impact what target audience experience. As opposed to surface acting, or bluffing emotions that aren’t actually felt, deep acting is grueling, all-consuming labor that deteriorates the demarcation between real and feigned emotions. Bluffing an outward countenance at the call center and dive bar was tiring, but I kept a grip on my sense of self. I knew, for example, that I was exaggerating when I told the raucous regular at the dive bar how much I loved his haircut. In the same way, I was aware of the pangs of anguish and anger that I suppressed to calm down aggravated customers who were rightfully upset about their health care bills. In other words, there was a wall between me and work; a breathing space that allowed me to feel comfortable expressing a range of emotions outside of work, and thus, comfortable expressing a range of vulnerability needed to connect with people. Yet, with the lack of physical and emotional shield between me and my customers, it wasn’t enough to act on the surface.'

19.01.2022 Please share and sign! Sex workers will be especially vulnerable to eviction over the coming months as we are unable to work and many cannot access centrelink. How can we 'stay home' if we don't have a home to go to? 'Thousands of us are still being stalled in negotiating a rent reduction, and are facing eviction in coming weeks. At the end of September the much needed Jobseeker and JobKeeper payments will be slashed.... At the same time, the COVID19 Omnibus eviction moratorium is set to end. For those of us who were already struggling to stay afloat we will be expected to live on $3 a week. While we’re expected to stay home, we need to make sure we have a secure home to stay in. The COVID19 pandemic demands long term solutions. Deferring the problem only exacerbates the crisis. Time is running out.' #ExtendTheMoratorium #RentReliefNow #Nooneleftbehind

18.01.2022 Many anti-sex worker advocates use phrases like ‘abolition’ in regards to working to make sex work illegal. True prison abolitionists know that there is no prison abolition without the decriminalization of sex work. http://ow.ly/wFsL50BegZ7

10.01.2022 'After abolition: what next? Abolition is not just about tearing everything down, it’s about imagining and building new, revolutionary futures. Racial capitalism prevents us from the vital work of imagining different futures. But when we can find ways to create, speculate, envisage, together, the possibilities are endless. Art is one path of abolition and rebuilding, for our movements, our politics, our environments, our histories and ourselves. To imagine new worlds is to st...art creating them. Our final panel brings together artists and writers who work with alternate realities and revolutionary futures to ask: what sets us free? Hosted by Layla-Roxanne Hill, writer/curator-artist/organiser, our speakers will be: Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley, an artist whose work seeks to archive Black trans experience, using technology to imagine black trans lives in environments that centre our bodies; Francesca Sobande, lecturer, researcher and writer with a particular focus on digital culture, Black diaspora, feminism, creative work and popular culture; Morgan M Page, Canadian writer, performance and video artist, and activist currently based in London, who writes and hosts the trans history podcast One From the Vaults; Cory Cocktail, power exchange architect and escort, and a post disciplinary artist with an interest in the intersections of the body and technology; and Khaleb Brooks, multi- disciplinary artist and researcher exploring blackness, transness, the body and collective memory.'

08.01.2022 Dan Andrews will be making an announcement about Victorian COVID-19 restrictions this Sunday. Vixen Collective is in communication with the government and Victoria Police. We will let you know what all this means for Victorian sex workers as soon as possible! As always:

07.01.2022 'For starters, the new changes mean that some models now have to wait an entire month for their payouts, which used to only be held for one week for processing purposes. Obviously, this is frustrating at the best of times, but in the middle of a global pandemic, the extra three weeks could potentially put vulnerable people in really dire situations. Additionally, the new limits have massively restricted the amount of money sex workers can actually make on the platform. Consid...ering many sex workers invest time and money into PPV photoshoots that they’d usually sell for upwards of $500, this new change is expected to hit the community hard.' Real talk though: as much as SWer tourists like Bella Thorne suck, Only Fans is the real enemy. https://www.pedestrian.tv/se/bella-thorne-onlyfans-changes/

05.01.2022 "One of the three main demands of protesters is to Stop oppression, harassment and intimidation of the people. Sex workers in Thailand (and around the world) live and work in an atmosphere of harassment and intimidation created by criminalization of sex work. The police intimidating and arresting students are the same police who harass and arrest us. The police cells they are held in are the same cells we are held in. Empower stands with all those demanding an end to oppression. It must include the end of the oppressive Prostitution Act. Empower is collecting 10,000 signatures needed to have the issue of repealing the law raised in Parliament. Nobody’s Wrong ... Decriminalize"
