25.01.2022 The best spend you can make before you next leave home is to buy the VERY best Roadside Assistance/Towing Package available or EVEN better still read on as we have seen it all and have a couple of handy tips. Tandem Rocker-Suspensions are not the best option for caravans covering long distances no matter what the road type as they need a lot of maintenance; unfortunately, they are probably the most popular. Of course, we can maintain/rebuild them but we encourage new carava...n buyers to request a good quality independent system (Simplicity, Vehicle Components, Knee, Control Rider, Sugar Glider or Alko Rubber to name but a few) when buying a new caravan. In relation to maintenance the shackle pins and bushes often require replacement within 15-20,000km (not good). We also recommend replacing the springs at 70-80,000km as after this point they become prone to breaking. Our advice ensure a Rocker-Suspension is serviced every 10,000km without fail. Alternatively, you can invest in a Rocker Roller Conversion. It’s NOT an independent system, but a cost-effective alternative. Our advice we are generally able to convert more economically than repairing your old Rocker Suspension. Its without doubt that improved maintenance, upgrading to a new and more reliable suspension will in the long run save you money, time and a lot of inconvenience. The picture below tells a thousand stories don’t let it be you on your next big adventure. Ph: (03) 9729 8477 www.swiftcaravanservices.com.au

21.01.2022 Caravanning Tip Fire extinguishers in caravans should be shaken up every 3 months as the powder inside will compact into a solid lump from bumpy roads. Make sure you can feel or hear the powder moving inside otherwise you will only get about 1/4 of the powder to use to extinguish the fire. 21.01.2022 Locking brakes how blinky annoying. Probably the most common complaint amongst caravan owners the fix however is rather simple. Most of us non-mechanically minded caravaners have no idea what’s going on inside of our brakes!... There are some springs, a magnet and around the edge material that jams up against a drum to make you stop. As you can imagine it all gets VERY dusty and dirty and like us they needs the occasional clean and adjustment. Do you need to know what each bit does not really, other than to understand that they are no different to the ones on your car which generally get serviced every 10,000k’s. If you don’t then expect flat spots on your tyres, inefficient and dangerously UNSAFE braking and a bit of whiplash when they come on faster than what they should (especially at low speeds). We have huge hoists that we place your caravan on and then raise it up in the air allowing us to not only service your brakes, but while we are there take a good look over everything underneath. In our minds, prevention is much better than a cure. Ph: 03 9729 8477 www.swiftcaravanservices.com.au

18.01.2022 Caravan Wash Keeping your caravan clean is a really good way of keeping on top of repairs. When you’re scrubbing the van, it’s easier to notice dents, scratches and the deterioration of surfaces and seals. 17.01.2022 What the heck is an Anode? Well it’s something that goes inside most HWS’s. Depending on where you travel it can last a short time (+/- 1 year) or longer (up to 2 years).... The quality of the water that you pass through your system makes all the difference! Water that contains a lot of minerals i.e. in Central Australia will cause them to wear fast. They are designed to keep the tank from corroding and are easy to change or we can do it for you during a service. For the DIY it’s important to flush the tank out before installing a new one and don’t forget to clean the internal thread after removing the old anode, and to place sealant tape around the anode thread before installation. We always carry them in stock and they aren’t expensive; the whole job should take about 1-hour. Ph: (03) 9729 8477 www.swiftcaravanservices.com.au

12.01.2022 Towing without a Weight Distribution System can cause unnerving trailer sway, reduced steering and braking responsiveness, less traction and misaligned head lights. Over time you may also notice a reduction in fuel economy and increased tyre wear. When using a Weight Distribution System, the ball weight remains the same, however the load is evenly distributed through the vehicle’s chassis to all four wheels. It is important that the capacity of the Weight Distribution System ...is correctly chosen and that the vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations are always followed. Swift Caravan Services have been fitting Hayman Reese Weight Distribution Systems for many years now, come in and talk to us to see if a Weight Distribution System is suitable for your rig. We can also ‘reset’ your existing Weight Distribution System if you have updated your tow vehicle or caravan. Ph: 03 9729 8477 www.swiftcaravanservices.com.au

08.01.2022 Caravan Repairs There is nothing worse than that feeling when you have had an accident. But, it doesn’t have to be that dreaded. In fact, at Swift Caravan Services we make the whole caravan repairs process simple and, well Swift. If you have an accident on the road, don’t worry, you don’t have to end your fun.... The reason that you should have your caravan looked at, is that unlike cars, caravans are easier to straighten out after an accident. A typical caravan accident involves a bump to the external wall which can be repaired by removing the cladding to cut out the damaged framework. We religiously use silicone for sealing all windows and edge moulds which results in a seal that will last years. If you were to leave your caravan it is likely that the seal will be damaged allowing water and moisture inside your caravan, leading to a lot more money and time needed to have it fixed. 03.01.2022 What’s involved in a good service? Beside how often i.e. mileage or time, there are other things that MUST be taken into account when having your caravan serviced. At Swift Caravan Services, our service procedure is broken down as follows;... 1. Routine servicing for example greasing (chassis and suspension) and disassembling, cleaning & reassembling (wheel bearings) etc is straight forward 2. Maintenance for example inspection (chassis), adjustment (brakes) and testing (lights) can be more complex. We have an established check list that insures each and every time we do a service that maintenance items are brought to the customers’ attention for either immediate repair or monitoring.
