22.01.2022 Attention ladies!

22.01.2022 Good afternoon, Rugby League Ipswich has announced that Junior and Senior football will be returning from August for a shortened season in 2020. Swifts RLFC are one of the clubs who have put their hand up to return during a year that as been difficult to say the least. We now need to gauge who from Juniors and Seniors is wanting to participate in the shortened 2020 season. ... Previously registered players from previous years can register online at www.playnrl.com. If you already registered earlier in the year and want to continue with your registration with Swifts, can you please email [email protected] to inform our Registrar Mel of your intention to still participate. Anyone wishing to come over from another club to Swifts for the 2020 season can come over under a portability registration which means they then go back to their normal club for 2021. This can be done through the club you were previously registered with. Any fees already paid at another club can be requested to be transferred over to Swifts to cover your registration for 2020. Fees will remain the same as what was previously set for the 2020 season. Unfortunately even though it is a shortened season we still have the same financial obligations to pay for (uniforms, electricity costs, water, insurance, referee fees etc) as if it were a full season. Fair play vouchers are now open again to apply for and can be used towards your childs fees. We will be communicating later this week when our training times will be commencing and where in preparation for the season commencing in August. Coaches, Managers, Leaguesafes and FAOs please email Ross on [email protected] with your availability for this shortened season. Any questions or enquires, contact our Senior President Ross Allwood on 0400054224. We are looking forward to working with you to get back on the footy field in 2020. Swifts RLFC 2020 Executive Committee

22.01.2022 Do you and/or your kids want to play again in the 2020 season? With the restrictions easing, there may be an opportunity to get back into the game. Please respond with a simple YES/NO. I.e. if you want to play but are not willing to volunteer, please respond YES NO Responses are required asap.

16.01.2022 Congratulations to Inndia on playing her last U12s game with her team and twin brother Kaal. Inndia started in U6s in that time she has represented U11s Ipswich Diggers Maitland Tour and was also the captain of the Swifts U10s team that contested the Gordon Tallis Cup. She has always played her heart out and will be missed greatly by the boys. This year she was joined in the team with a first year player Peyton who in her first year did not look out of place and looked like she has played for years. Good luck to both girls in the future definitely ones to look out for

16.01.2022 By now Im sure most of you have seen the announcement from the RLI this morning cancelling the 2020 regular season. We understand that this is a big disappointment. The Committee have agreed that any cash/eftpos funds (not FairPlay Vouchers) paid towards registration and uniforms (where uniforms havent already been received) will be credited towards the 2021 season, where we hope to see many of our families return for a cracking year of footy. Once we have any information on this, we will share it with you. If you have any questions, can we please ask that you add these into the comments of this post? Any that we cant answer straight away, we will seek clarification and share this information in a future update. Regards, Swifts RLFC Committee

12.01.2022 THE mother of a Queensland NRL prodigy has revealed how even on the day her gifted son took his own life, he was laughing with mates saying Im feeling great.... Angela Grieve has turned the loss of her only son Regan, a North Queensland Cowboys talent who captained the Queensland under-18 team, into a determination to take the stigma out of suicide. Angela has told her devastating story of loss to The Sunday Mail because she doesnt want another mother to feel her pain. She also said the NRL must address the increasing rate of depression among their players through greater funding for highly-trained welfare officers. Regan took his own life on Australia Day this year in Mackay, a day he spent with mates and family. At 1.85m and 107kg, Regan towered over his friends as they posed for Facebook-bound photos on the national day. He told everyone that day, Im feeling great, Angela said. His mates still have photos of him from that day and hes smiling in all of them. Six hours later, Regan lost his battle with depression. I think he was happy that morning because he knew the cloud over him was going away, she said. He wasnt sad that day. Someone said to me about Regan He must not have known how final it would be. He knew it was final, that was the point. I never saw it coming. No one ever does though. I dont want any other mums to feel like I do. This has to stop. Three months later and Angela now knows that she will never make sense of the tragedy. She has no anger towards the NRL but would like officials to dedicate more resources to the mental health issues that professional athletes are increasingly susceptible to. It is an epidemic, Angela said. I dont blame rugby league. I dont blame the Cowboys. However, I do worry that there are kids playing league today who are having a bad day and they have no one to talk to about it. There needs to be more people around an NRL club who can ask them How are you today. In the past two years, five NRL contracted young men have taken their own lives. Each person had a unique set of complex reasons that prompted the deep depression they drowned in. However, there are common themes in each tragedy. Injury, pressure to perform, pressure to meet their own expectations and disappointment at perceived failures are common threads linking each life lost. The five young men took their lives between February and April; the start of the season where hopes of career advancement are realised or crushed. The humble Angela, who even hated sitting front row at her sons funeral because the focus was on her, said she wanted Regans life to mean something. People looked at Regan and thought he had it all ... he didnt, Angela said. He was a beautiful son and I just want parents and their children to maybe learn from his life. Angela said the issue of youth suicide was too complex to draw definitive conclusions but she is adamant the NRL must do more to help its young men deal with an increasingly cruel world. When people are on their couch yelling at their television because a player made a mistake they need to remember these are guys trying their best, Angela said. I am just a mum. I am no authority on this but I hate to think there will be another family who will feel the way I do now. There are parents out there who dont know who their clubs welfare officer is. Since Regans death, Angela has realised how much he meant to people. So many of his mates call him their brother and it is something they said before he passed away, Angela said. There are friends of his struggling to cope. I am struggling but Im an adult. I dont know how they are coping. I hope I have helped some boys with a bit of advice. Im just Regans mum but they still check in and see how I am doing. I dont have all the answers but I do know that these boys need more people to talk to at their NRL club. They need to increase the pay for welfare officers. There arent enough of them. There arent enough people to really get to know these kids. Regan wanted everyone to see him at his best... that is who Regan was. Even that Australia Day he told everyone he was feeling great. 04.01.2022 To give everyone some context, we only generate income through sponsorship, registrations/memberships, gate takings, canteen/ bar sales, merchandise sales, and fundraising. With the season not going ahead as planned we have not had any income from gate takings, canteen/bar sales, merchandise sales or fundraising. Due to the downturn, sponsorship has been very limited, and when we hold fundraising events, we dont get the support required to generate the funds needed to meet t...he clubs expenses. Despite not playing so far this season, uniforms had to be purchased, insurance had to be paid (though QRL will cover the junior portion of our insurance, we wont see this until 2021). The fields still need to be maintained, and water and electricity bills continue to be received. We appreciate everyones concerns and understand the disappointment that the season hasnt gone as hoped. The Committee are feeling this too. The position of Treasurer has just been vacated so if you would like to take on the position, please email your expression of interest to the Secretary at [email protected].
