11.01.2022 WATER POLO ON THE ISLAND 2018 Simone Fountain OAM, who won gold in the Sydney 2000 Olympics water polo is the new Regional Manager of the Pilbara Sport... & Rec. It was her first day at the Karratha Water Polo Association's now-annual Australia Day comp on Malus Island of the Dampier Archipelago, with around 100 people attending. 10 year-old Tom Grylls scored a goal in adults' net, with the unique advantage of being a left-handed player. Well done Tom! Flipperball and a water castle kept the kids of over 15 families attending amused while the adults battled it out in mixed matches of full field. "Similar open ocean events occur in other locations like Croatia, Sydney Harbour and Bundeena NSW, where I have participated in the Fast Fours," said Ms Fountain. "The day is a great opportunity for collegiate teams and visitors of all ages to get together". With shade shelters, eskies, beach cricket and water polo, what more could you want on Australia Day in the Pilbara? Drone footage: Travis Graham (H2OPolo@theisland2018)

11.01.2022 Hello Swim Team. No Swim in 2017. Just spent 3 weeks, literally 20 full days, in the Alfred hospital with pneumonia/bronchiectasis and I have been unwell for a few months before that leading to my admission. I have not been shy on the website about my respiratory problems and my motivation to organise the Melbourne Swim Classic stems from that. There is a team behind me that help organise the event, Tineyi and Ty (pictured), and another team that help support the event finan...cially and they all think it is best to have the year off. I personally really loved sunset 1500m straight line swim from Brighton to Elwood we introduced last year and those that swam thoroughly enjoyed it as well. Over 2.5 full events we have had a few missteps along the way but I can confidently step out and state that that 1500m swimming event is up there with the best. Straight line, sunset, Brighton's golden mile views, swimming towards the city with current behind your back. I hope that along with the liquor licence we obtained for Elwood Pier will prove to a good enough foundation for us to run the event again with your support. I would like to apologise for this year but stay in touch for next year and beyond. Floyd Taylor
