06.03.2022 STEPHANIE MILLWARD MBE, PLY, DL. Aged just 16 and still at Corsham School, Wiltshire, England (UK), Stephanie was the 100m Backstroke swimming champion & within months of being selected for Team GB to compete at the Sydney 2000 Olympic games when, suffering unexplained symptoms, she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), an incurable disease. Shattered by her inability to swim & traumatised emotionally, the MS took over Stephanie’s life, both physically & mentally, for a...n incredibly miserable 8 years. At different stages, Stephanie was forced to re-learn to move, walk & talk, but after finally in 2007, was encouraged to re-enter the swimming pool and, soon thereafter asked to teach a friend to swim. This was the beginning of the transformation & once back swimming, she found peace, focus and some happiness again & within 12 months she competed at the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games. For the next 8 years, Stephanie competed in swimming championships globally, including the Paralympic Games at London 2012 where she won 5 medals, then in Rio 2016, she fulfilled her ambition of winning two Paralympic gold Medals, as part of the 5-medal haul In 2017, Stephanie was awarded an MBE, the Freedom of Corsham and even had the Corsham pool named after her. Despite losing her elite sport funding, having to deal with home training throughout the global pandemic and an additional year to the Paralympic cycle, Stephanie was incredibly selected for her 4th games. A month before her 40th Birthday, she travelled for a final time with Team GB to Tokyo, in August 2021. She did not add to her impressive 10 Paralympic medal tally, but qualified in 3 finals, including a 4th place finish. Aside swimming training, Stephanie has spent the last 2 years undertaking a degree course (AAT level 3) in book keeping. She is building a portfolio of clients for whom she completes their Annual Accounts and regularly delivers Motivational Presentations. Additionally, Stephanie dedicates her life to helping MS sufferers, supporting those with depression and other life-changing conditions. She regularly visits schools & clubs to inspire the next generation with her story, is either Patron or Ambassador for 9 Charities & is the living embodiment that demonstrates the power of positivity. Learning to swim or even the ability to enjoy water in a safe and happy environment no matter what your circumstances is so important for many different reasons. The water has given Stephanie the ability to prove not just to herself but the world that you should never give up. An International SwimFin Ambassador & passionate drowning prevention/water safety advocate, Stephanie’s inspirational journey continues on in helping make the world of water a safer environment, believing SwimFin can play an important role in #diversity #inclusion #equality for all concerned.

22.02.2022 If you look closely you will see three different levels of buoyancy, because....... The centers of gravity and #buoyancy are determined by the physical make-up ...of the #swimmer. The position a swimmer naturally attains in the water determines to a large part what a swimmer sees and feels. Changes to physical make-up produce changes to the #flotation experience, which could affect the way a swimmer #swims. Piece of mind for the swimmers #confidenceboost #happyswimmers #playlearnswim #swimfin #swimmingaid #selfadjusting #lessstressmorejoy See more
