16.01.2022 Member profiles: Committee Name: John Brunet Role: Vice President... Why did you join the club? Cathie and I used to live in Rowville and our three kids (Andrew, Daniel and Alyssa) went through the swim program at PSS Rowville. I couldn't really swim, so I also did a couple of terms of adult classes at PSS. When Andrew completed his Charcoal Certificate, he was keen to do competitive swimming. So when he received the invitation to join SSC, he did the tryout and joined in January 2018. Since then Daniel has also joined SSC. Why did you decide to join the committee? I saw the great work that the other parents and coaches were doing on the committee. I wanted to chip in and help share the load. So I joined as a general committee member in Feb 2020. When the call for nominations came out ahead of the 2020 AGM, I saw this as an opportunity to increase my contribution to our great club. Whilst the virus crisis has thrown us a curve ball, it's great to see our committee and our club rising up to the challenge. I'm confident that we will come out of this a stronger and more vibrant club. What do you love about the club? I love everything about this club! The coaches are passionate about our athletes. Our athletes are given all the support they need to be the best that they can be. The committee is totally committed to the success of the club. Last but not least, we have a great family-oriented culture. I know that my family always looks forward to the social interactions at swim meets and social events. As a kid, did you do a sport? If yes, what did you enjoy most about it? I was never really a sporty person. When I was young, I never had the opporuntity to learn how to swim. I enjoyed cycling, so I did the Great Victorian Bike Ride with our school group in Year 9. Nine days of riding. One of the greatest opportunities to experience our beautiful garden state of Victoria. Then my friends convinced me to join Karate in Year 10. Loved it! Did it for over 4 years (until work got in the way). 02.01.2022 Yesterday our swimmers got together over Zoom for a virtual dryland session.

01.01.2022 Member profiles: Committee Name: Bethany Forster Role: Social Media... Why did you join the club? I was at a presentation night for my 1km medal and the club was there presenting and I nudged my mum and said "I wanna do that" and so we joined, I've wanted to swim at the olympics since I was 5 and this was the first step. Why did you decide to join the committee? Mum has been on the committee for just about as long as I can remember and I had to go to the meetings after training and I could hear what was going on and it felt like there were decisions being made and no one had the perspective of a swimmer that these decisions would affect. So I wanted to be able to have my say and give my opinion/perspective. What do you love about the club? How we all do things together. Regardless of level, we all know each other or try to know everyone. I was surprised when we went to social events for my brother's footy club and they were split into their teams and no one mingled or seemed to know each other outside of their team, which felt really awkward as an outsider. We don't have that. As a kid, did you do a sport? If yes, what did you enjoy most about it? I swim. Competing and the friends I've made are what I enjoy most. Swimming is one of those sports that give you really good, close friends and often those friends are closer than school friends because you spend so much time together and you see each other at both your best and worst. Also I like winning. If you would like to participate in the profiles, fill out the relevant form, link below.
