25.01.2022 Parental involvement in learning to swim is paramount. Its so great to watch the interaction between Dads and their kids during swimming lessons. Most of the time Dads have a complete disconnect from the EGO which in turn creates the most playful experience for the children to laugh and learn. ... You see a true interaction. Awesome.

24.01.2022 Great lesson this morning at Southbank beach with Mr Brax. The facilities down here are fantastic - great wading pools for the kids to play and make new friends!

23.01.2022 It's funny that theres always different opinions and views regarding when we should introduce goggles into the learn to swim process. Here's my take: From around 2 years of age I recommend parents introducing goggles into swimming lessons. Some children may fight it which is fine, dont force it. As lessons progress and breath control starts to build, I have always found the introduction of goggles open up a whole new underwater experience. Children tend to stay under longer a...nd certain skills like diving for toys are more easily introduced. A Quick Tip: If your child is fighting the use the goggles introduce them as sunglasses and wear them around the house! Persistence is Key. Swim Personal

23.01.2022 If you want your child to build true independence in the water it is important that you continue to introduce skills that allow for a child to understand and test their spacial awareness. Spatial awareness is the ability to be aware of oneself in space. This is a complex cognitive skill that children need to develop at an early age. Using skills such as floating and changing direction or turning in a horizontal position are great ways to increase and fast track that independ...ence. Swim Personal

17.01.2022 Are you unsure whether you are getting the most from your swimming experience? If your child hasn't progressed in their lessons - maybe you convince yourself that '..maybe my child just isn't a great swimmer...' As instructors we understand that each child is learning in different ways. Simple skill building, effective communication and being able to adapt a lesson plan suited to the needs of a child is imperative to see consistent progress.... If you're bored of the same lesson week to week and you're curious about what to expect from private lessons then contact Swim Personal for a chat. Always happy to answer any questions. David

17.01.2022 What is the quickest and most effective way for you as a parent/carer to accelerate your childs confidence and abilities in the pool? Answer: Understanding the exact steps needed to achieve a certain goal and educating yourself on the techniques that you can use every time you are in the pool with your child. Playtime and constructive learning outside of formal swimming lessons is imperative for accelerated learning. Swim Personal

16.01.2022 One thing I find very common within the learn to swim industry is the inability of teachers being able to keep kids moving. I dont think its laziness from the teacher, maybe they havent been shown methods on how to do effectively? Strangely when a teacher is taking one child at a time throughout a 30-minute class and going through the skills individually, youll find the kids are only moving for an average 3 - 4 minutes. This leads to slow progress. ... Kids are going to be kids - if they are sitting on a ledge waiting for their turn for 25 minutes out of a 30-minute class its not that their naughty but they will find other things to do to entertain yourself! Private lessons keep focus and clients get 100% out of the session. You can ask questions - understand your childs progress - and have the confidence that you are making the most from your visit to the pool.

14.01.2022 With the recent closure of most public and private learn to swim schools where can we look to continue our childs water education? I hope you were listening @ lesson time..... When I started in my learn to swim education journey the goal was to learn as much as possible in the shortest period of time. I started to understand the information and planning behind a great lesson but I still hadnt gathered enough hands-on experience so, I wanted to shadow the teachers and watc...h and learn! Soon realised that most teachers were going through a process of just running a lesson (sometimes the same lesson every week) but very few were consistently educating parents on the WHY they were doing certain skills. Once parents are educated on the systems it makes practice time 10x more effective. If you have any questions regarding private lessons or what exercises you can introduce no matter of the age or ability- let me know - Im happy to walk you through the best possible action. Be Safe

10.01.2022 A must for anyone with a backyard pool. A simple addition but adding such a vital layer of safety. Make learning to swim and pool safety a priority for you and your kids in 2017.

06.01.2022 Can you spot the danger in this photo? I visited family today and noticed the next door neighbours had a pool in their back yard. Look closely top left. Is there any valid reason for propping a pool gate open with a brick?

01.01.2022 What is the best way to rebuild confidence in a child that has had a negative experience in the water? Find a pool with shallow water so children can play and explore independently. Introducing a mix of positive praise, reassurance and a few simple games you will soon see the enjoyment and confidence returning to the lesson.
