12.01.2022 SwingMania’s Annual General Meeting is coming up this Wednesday! But what does that mean? And why should you come? Why does SwingMania have an AGM? We are a not-for-profit, committee-run organisation and we use the AGM to vote in our new committee and discuss the events of the past year and our plans into the future.... Do I need to be a member to come? Not at all! Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend the meeting. It is a great way of getting to know the SwingMania team and you will get the chance to offer feedback. However, you will need to be a member to vote or become a committee member. How do I know if I’m a member? Under our current system, you automatically become a member of SwingMania if you have attended 4 or more classes in the past 12 months (this includes our online classes). If you’re not sure if you qualify, let us know and we’ll check our records. Can I join the committee? Absolutely! If you have been to 4 or more classes in the past 12 months, you qualify as a member and are eligible to join the committee. We will have some vacancies opening up including some executive roles as well a spaces for general committee members. There is also no requirement for you to be an experienced dancer; people of all levels are welcome. Will there be dancing? Yes! And even better, it’s FREE if you attend the AGM! We will be holding an all levels class after the AGM that will be lots of fun for everyone. I have more questions. Check out the event page below or if we haven’t answered your question there, feel free to post a comment, message us on facebook, or send us an email to [email protected] We hope to see you there!

04.01.2022 IMPORTANT UPDATE: Venue Change and Partnered Dancing Please read if you are planning to attend class this Wednesday 15th July (tomorrow). VENUE: We will NOT be at the Worker’s Club this week. Unfortunately, due to updated Coronavirus Restrictions it is unclear if we will be permitted to host our classes at the Worker’s Club, as it is a licenced venue.... Class this week will be held at the Launceston North Uniting Church Hall at 128-132 George Town Road, Newnham (see the red marker on the map and photos attached). Please let any of your friends know, who may not see this notice. PARTNERED DANCING: Some good news! We have been advised that partner dancing is permitted to resume! (in a class setting) It is important to note that physical contact is permitted ONLY for the purpose of dance practice in class. While not dancing we will be asking you to maintain your physical distancing. Hugging, hand-shakes, etc, are still NOT permitted. We will be starting with partnered Charleston, danced in a side-by-side position (so your partner won’t be right in your face), and blues in open (with quite a lot of space between you). We will be running our classes with three participation options. Please advise us upon arrival which option you would prefer. 1. Rotate partners. Get the chance to dance with a variety of people. We highly encourage sanitising hands between rotations. Dancing with a variety of people is very beneficial to your dance education but we understand that people may not be comfortable with this at the moment, for hygiene reasons. 2. Solo dancing. We will, as teachers, facilitate the option for students to continue their solo practice if that is preferred. 3. Dancing with one partner. If you would like to organise to dance with just one partner for the evening, and not rotate, this will also be accommodated. Please organise who your partner will be prior to class. You partner does not need to be someone from your household, but a reminder that physical distancing must be maintained at all times, when not dancing in class. Thank you all so much for your patience with us during all of these changes! Don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns. And we’ll see you tomorrow at Newnham!
03.01.2022 We will be holding our Annual General Meeting in two weeks. This is a great opportunity to see how everything works behind the scenes, plus it will be followed by a free dance class!! We hope to see you there in person or via Zoom.
