12.01.2022 Hi all. Just giving you all an update on how the operation went on Monday. So most of you know I lost all hearing in my right ear just under 2 years ago due to a server ear infection ( which left me out of action for a while ) , I followed up with specialists and the only option was to get a cochlear implant in, just to regain some hearing back in that side . So on Monday I went in for the op. . It ended up being a success after being abit of a difficult procedure . I had ...extra bone growth inside which the docs couldn’t drill through right at the end , so the had to start a new hole ..... which turned the 2 hour op into a 4.5 hour op. I don’t deal with anethetic very well as it is and they had to double me up so you can just imagine I wasn’t feeling the best Monday night . I finally got home Thursday arvo from hospital but still have been not able to move far from the couch. How the unit works is they put a tiny electrode into the cochlear part of my ear and a sender unit under the skin which transmits radio signals to the outer unit ( which gets installed in 2 weeks ) ...and yes I can Bluetooth to it ... so if you catch me signing and dancing away and you can’t hear any music then this will be why This picture sort of shows the procedure the blue snail like thing is the cochlea (3-4) then the internal sender unit (2) and the outer until still to come (1) See more
