15.01.2022 On 5/11/2020, the Embassy of Switzerland hosted the 22nd Swiss Prize Ceremony, a yearly essay competition organised in collaboration with the ANU School of Literature, Languages and Linguistics. The #swissprize promotes multilingualism and multiculturalism in French, Italian, and German. This year, students engaged with the topic "21st Century Switzerland: Challenges and Transformation" and explored aspects of climate change, gender equality, migration, the black-lives-matter-movement, and the pandemic. For the first time in 22 years the ceremony was accessible to people attending online. See below the address of the Ambassador of Switzerland, Mr Pedro Zwahlen. #multilingualism #multiculturalism #language

09.01.2022 Switzerland is contributing USD100,000 to build capacity on climate change and disaster related migration, displacement and planned relocation for resilient development in the Pacific. Project partners, including the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme - SPREP and the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) Secretariat, are working under the Framework for Resilient Development in the Pacific, endorsed by the Leaders of PIF in 2016. Switzerland’s Special Envoy for th...e Pacific Region Ambassador Yasmine Chatila Zwahlen said The Pacific Islands Region is not only very exposed to Climate Change with its adverse effects on all aspects of Human Security, but it also harbours knowledge, tradition, solutions and best practices which the Blue Continent can share with the international community. I am proud that #Switzerland can support the leadership in the Pacific Islands Region in this area of growing importance for the world. 08.01.2022 Koala offspring at the Australian section of Zoo Zürich! For the first time, Zoo Zürich welcomes a koala joey into the zoo family. After several months well hidden in the pouch of his mother Pippa, the joey now continuesely expands his radius of activity holding on tight to the thick, woolly fur of his mother. The first #koalas arrived in Zurich in March 2018 on the initiative of then Zoo director Alex Rübel, and the Ambassador of Switzerland to Australia, Pedro Zwahlen: https://www.facebook.com//a.2102956149924/2113607628859632. 01.01.2022 Over 3.000 books on a wide range of topics were delivered to Bui-lebi Prison in the Southern Highlands in Papua New Guinea on 13th November 2020. The books were received with great delight by the prison commander, officers, and the inmates, who were eager to fill up the bookshelves they had constructed. Ambassador Yasmine Chatila Zwahlen, who initiated the project during her visit to Bui-Iebi Prison a year ago, expresses the project partners’ aim: I hope that the library will enrich the users’ lives, facilitate education and enhance literacy among inmates, contributing to improved reintegration. The project was implemented in collaboration with the Swiss Embassy’s long-standing partner Buk bilong Pikinini. Photos: Richard TOYOU #developmentaid #education #literacy
01.01.2022 On the occasion of CYBATHLON, let’s also highlight Switzerland’s commitment to achieve equality for people with disabilities. It has set out 3 priorities: independent living, equality at work & e-accessibility. Switzerland made great strides and concrete progress thanks to the Disability Discrimination Act and the ratification of the UN's Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities: https://www.edi.admin.ch/edi/fr/home/fachstellen/bfeh.html In picture: A wheelchair user is standing on the street in front of a shopping store in a Swiss city. The sidewalk is flattened and, therefore, he has unobstructed access to the shop. #equality #disability #disabilityrights
