24.01.2022 Great results for Southern Cross Shires at the 2019 Sydney Royal Easter Show. Southern Cross Apollo beautifully shown by Rebecca Ferguson won the Senior stallion class and was Reserve Champion Shire Stallion being beaten by the classy colt owned by Cai & Emma Thomas. Southern Cross Hamish was second in a strong class of Shire geldings. He was beautifully shown by Amanda Blakeley. Congratulations to Denise Tiyce for winning the class and Gelding Championship with Tullymor...e Sir William. And special congratulations to John White and Team for being so successful with SX Wesley who was fabulous in the ridden classes. ( I love the beaming smile in the photo below) Sydney Royal is a great event and we were so pleased to compete with success. Cheers. See more

11.01.2022 Southern Cross Shire’s ‘Hamish’ at the National Clydesdale & Heavy Horse Festival over the weekend. This gelding is a wonderful performer over a whole range of events. In the Shire led classes he was second in Best Presented Shire as well as Champion Shire Gelding and then Supreme Shire. Hamish was also entered in several of the show cart ( non traditional classes) and performed superbly driven to perfection by Amanda Blakeley. Hamish is always on the bit, in a great collec...ted form and trots out in effortless, ground covering stride. Hamish also turned out in a harness Pairs Team with Southern Cross Nickolas and performed well above expectations with Carolyn Blakeley driving. He is altogether a lovely horse with talent and the best of temperaments. Thank you to show organisers Robert Ronzio and Val Perkins. See more

11.01.2022 The shire horse society recently did a survey as to why entries are down at shows. Well 9.00am in the ring May have something to do with it. This is a hobby an...d supposed to be fun, washing out at 4.30am in the rain is not fun to walk round a ring in a deserted show ground because the sensible public are sill in bed on their Sunday morning. Then show organisers expect exhibitors to stay till 4.30pm for grand parade again in a deserted show ground cause the sensible public are having Sunday dinner and getting ready for work. Show organisers I know you have a hard job juggling public interest, finances etc but these are society shows so please consider members and exhibitors, if you want them to return.
