23.01.2022 Had an invite to the meeting today at the Mahogany Creek Hall to see the progress of their community in the development of a business case to manage their hall and tennis courts. What a great turnout in our area Toni Burbidge. Some great processes managed by their committee and a couple of pics show what is 'absolutely important' (red dots - each person had two) and what was considered nice to have (yellow dots - everyone had five). Good luck with the process as other groups will benefit from your work too. Oh and lots more ideas too. Congratulations.

21.01.2022 Today I attended the Swearing In ceremony at the Shire of Mundaring and not just because I was invited but because it helps to keep the fire alight and my continued support for a great community. Important to thank all of those that supported me and I found it quite humbling to say thank you on my elections signs to over 550 voters in the East Ward. To those that supported the lighting of the inner fire years ago thank you. To those that kept it burning again thank you. To t...he big players that will still be there in two years..... To the potential candidates for two years time - bring your best to the table. Finally a big thank you to a potential candidate and big supporter Susan Hilbert (née Gill). We will at least be a strong team or contribute to a stronger Council. Matt Hilbert cheers. Owe you a beer too. Mel hope you can still be the darling and strongest supporter as always. Xxx

18.01.2022 Current Council has been working with the results of a 2015 community perceptions survey. There is another coming soon so make sure you consider your thoughts early so when the random phone calling occurs you will have some considered responses. This page and others will be a great place to start generating thoughtful responses for a lucky call recipient. In 2015 there were 400 telephone calls made so quite a good cross section of community was involved. I hope I get a call....Continue reading

18.01.2022 Congratulations to Kate Driver for taking the East Ward vacancy and very clearly. Will see you in two years Kate. A whole hearted huge thank you to the 558 voters that supported me in this election in the place I call home. Kate scored 804 votes and Patrick the past councillor for the previous 4 years also scored more than me with 650 votes. I feel very happy to have been part of something new here for me and the community I live in.

15.01.2022 About Me I have lived in Chidlow with Mel Cooper for nearly 10 years. As a career and volunteer firefighter as well as emergency services manager for over 32 years I am very passionate around safety and readiness in our local community. Together and with other residents we have led and managed our strong Bushfire Ready network that has been tested on a few occasions in recent years.... I have experience in community groups from Parents and Citizens/Friends at my daughters’ schools to successful sporting coach and club president. I am the current President for Mundaring Toastmasters as well as Vice President at another corporate Toastmasters club. Toastmasters is a successful communication and leadership development program that helps those terrified ‘want to be’ public speakers with self-development that shows amazing results. I am a great supporter of local business with a ‘If you don’t use it you lose it’ attitude. Why am I running for Council? Community safety is a great passion of mine and as a councillor I will influence leaders to prioritise Bushfire Ready as a key part of the Mundaring Shire for residents and business alike. Business operators can be leaders as well as employers and they will get my support (within regulations) to thrive in the shire. It is a two way street so local business will be encouraged to live locally, employ local and spend locally as well as be volunteer friendly for the shire’s strong volunteer population. I will listen, I will consult, I will bring A ‘can do’ attitude to shire and council for the benefits of all residents Accountability to the East Ward ratepayers as well as fellow councillors I will provide strong influence for a ‘can’t do’ attitude for inefficiencies in services provision by the Mundaring Shire. Make your vote count for a safer and resilient yet stronger community, with Support for business with a local focus, and Strong support from community through to an efficient shire and council Very keen to take enquiries from you 0429 314 322 Written and Authorised by Syd Bignell 2900 Lilydale Road Chidlow WA 6556

15.01.2022 Another issue is the connection - sorry lack thereof from the north east of Mt Helena to the northwest of Chidlow. Several tracks look to be useful for an upgrade option for emergency fire access/egress. Your thoughts here please

13.01.2022 Out and about again today in the East and west of the East Ward. Some common themes are the condition or lack of facilities and the roads that are narrow, tree lined and considered dangerous by road users and residents. How is your support for these issues? I would like a feed of your thoughts and concerns if you too agree with some of my constituents to this page please. More thoughts is more weight for Residents support.

12.01.2022 Scoop I was listening to ABC Mornings today and absolutely thrilled to hear that Mundaring has a winner again. Matthew Bill of Swan View has just won the WA Youth Awards for this year. Well done Matthew. Jason Russell get this great man on board. Attached is the link to the article that says Matthew is a finalist in the Outstanding Youth Worker Award. ... http://echonewspaper.com.au/youth-award-finalists/

10.01.2022 Hi all I have received a private message that I can't seem to be able to respond to. Only one so the sender will know who they are. My email is advertised if you would like to try another method please KR Syd

09.01.2022 Hello it has been a while. However, I have been busy in the background and more recently in the space of Community Safety. The Shire of Mundaring Electors Meeting on 13 December 2017 passed a motion from me on behalf of the Chidlow Progress Association and the Mount Helena Residents and Ratepayers Association to connect the areas of North West Chidlow to North East Mount Helena. The 'one way in - one way out' roadway from Stone Street along Rosedale through Keenan/Wallaby or... Laguna/Grand Valley is at 4.2 kilometres long. Any new subdivision can have a maximum of 250 metres of travel along a primary egress to a secondary egress. The SoM has responded that they cannot do the work and to be fair some residents don't want the roadways connected. I say some because many do. On August 15th (and again on behalf of the local representative associations) I hosted a well attended community meeting to get their concerns and to set the scene for a Bushfire Ready Group from the broader Rosedale and Keenan Roads area. If you had seen my large yellow signs you are in the proposed Bushfire Ready area. Another Community Meeting of the area is planned for 19 September at the Old Chidlow Hall. This meeting is specific for the Rosedale/Keenan broader road area and of course others are welcome to see what Bushfire Ready can bring to another community area. Meeting starts at 6.30pm and as this is dinner time you are welcome to bring a plate to share during the meeting. I fed all of the attendees last meeting. Some images attached will help you. Many thanks also to Dave Palmer of the Chidlow Chatter and the Chidlow Post House. If you live in the area prescribed above Share this post with your Facebook Friends

05.01.2022 Since the Council Elections of 2017 I have been working with the Shire of Mundaring (SoM) on a motion I put forward from the Electors Meeting on 13 December. The Shire of Mundaring upgrade the existing tracks and trails between the North East of Mount Helena and North West of Chidlow to a similar or greater standard of other approved local sub-division emergency access/egress roads by the end of September 2018. With the support of the Mount Helena Residents and Ratepayers... Association as well as the Chidlow Progress Association we have kept this motion alive from a negative report delivered by the SoM and supported by the Mundaring Council. To date we have some feedback from the SoM that there are opportunities to further develop from. My goals for this project are: 1. To understand community perceptions 2. Promote opportunity for improved access/egress for fire 3. Influence stakeholders in the affected area 4. Confirm a prepared community for bushfire risk Next steps: Meet with local Bush Fire Brigade officers and the local DFES staff to confirm they are on the same page as the two ‘Associations’ Then it is time to gather support from the community. We will do this through a letter box drop followed by a meeting of the localised resident group. Further meetings in the form of Street Meetings can then provide more opportunity for residents to present their collective or individual thoughts on progress. Given the local understanding of this issue already, I would like your feedback on the issue and progress to date. Healthy discussion and/or argument is needed. In your discussion please indicate if you are residing in the area of interest and if not you may also have a similar area of bushfire safety on long ‘one way in - one way out’ roadways you have available to use as early egress in case of a fire that may threaten your life, home or livelihood. Please share this post with your friends for a generated view of our bushfire safety. Thanks in anticipation Syd Bignell 2900 Lilydale Road Chidlow 0429314322
