St John Bosco College Engadine are doing just that by using recycled plastic lids for a DIY Biofilter in their Science fish pond. Using a solar-powered pump, the plastic lids provide a surface for the microorganisms to grow and break down the fish waste, thus filtering the water. The clean water is then fed back into the pond. The plastic lids cannot otherwise be recycled.
