25.01.2022 Many people don’t know that I have blended my two worlds of dance and Physiotherapy. This week marked my first international presentation to the International Association for Dance Medicine and Science (IADMS) on the use of dance to treat chronic pain. As of 2020 we found and reviewed 31 studies looking at this idea in some way. For a summary of what we found you can join the iConference or wait until we publish the results Here are some outtakes and a snippet of myse...lf answering some questions at the iConference around my PhD project. Although we could not be in Japan for this conference it is being held online through the IADMS app. #physio #dance #chronicpain #painscience #iadms #dancephysio #physiotherapy See more

25.01.2022 300-500 reps to ingrain a movement pattern and 3000-5000 to undo it. Turns out Olympic lifting involves more technique than most people think.

Check out bulletproofexec.com for more info from the biohacking master #DaveAsprey! From bulletproof coffee to amino acid supplements and high intensity workouts, a growing number of people around the world are taking evolution into their own hands. I...Continue reading

24.01.2022 So lets say youve done a good job fixing your brain. Your neurotransmitters are balanced and your HPA axis is functioning properly. But now you want to take things to the next level. You want to experience better living through science. You want to be able to read books faster, converse with ease and intelligence, maximize your work productivity, and have laser-like focus and motivation during your workouts. With the right combination of nutrients, supplements, smart drugs, gear and even brain exercises, you can achieve this level of mental superiority. And its not as hard as you might think nor does it necessarily require expensive brain-hacking electronic equipment...

20.01.2022 Check it out guys-movement therapy. Spend 7 accumulative minutes a day hanging. One arm, 2 arms, pronated or supinated grip...just hang. Use this to restore your fundamental overhead position and stabilise and strengthen those shoulders! Also check out Ido's page, there's much to be learnt from this movement expert!

17.01.2022 Great resource for all of you struggling with mobility and busy lives! Take 30 minutes out of your day for some active meditation...or for you neurotic individuals hang out in front of the tele or reading a book! Remember ass to the grass! This is meant to be a deep squat, essentially a relaxed position.

15.01.2022 It's good to see revisions being made or being considered with regard to the flimsy high carb/low fat diets. The science is there to justify increasing fat intake, particularly saturated fat and there are performance benefits for athletes too. Hopefully we'll see an end to decades of misinformation that was created out of political, economic and social pressure. This is a great summary of the current situation and these guys down in Victoria are doing good things for the industry! #bringthefatback #wssc #nutrition

13.01.2022 The book that started the beginning of the bodybuilding era. Interesting to see where it all started #strongauthor

13.01.2022 First workout in #Fiji! It would seem the health issues in the country boil down to a lack of education and healthy alternatives. There is either outdated nutritional knowledge or no knowledge at all which is a major problem with the increased distribution of crappy packaged foods and less money going to the local fresh food markets. Also, those that listen to the advice also tend to be the older women that have had complications manifest such as high blood pressure, diabetes... or obesity, which is sad as the idea of prevention is long gone for many people. Potentially, education with all members of the villages may allow healthy eating and exercise to filter down the generations to create a healthier Fiji. But until people listen and act, there is a need to buffer poor lifestyle choices with exercise or healthier eating. On another note, these bad boys in the picture can be used for dozens of upper and lower body exercises and is widely adjustable. Both clients and trainers should be able to use them as an easy alternative to traditional weights. Perhaps the use of suspension trainers may be a viable option for easy and effective physical activity. Food for thought? #projectsabroad #nutrition #education #calisthenics #islandthoughts

12.01.2022 Much love to the athletes competing at the #transplantgames today. It was great to see both transplant recipients and family members out supporting a great cause and battling their way through a number of events over the past week. Well deserved massages all round! The smiling faces and effort from everyone involved in the games made it a success. Hopefully we can cultivate a bit more awareness around these amazing events and support those that have been given a new bill of h...ealth. 07.01.2022 The same myth that is taught in universities around the world

06.01.2022 Sometimes as we try to delve into large bodies of information we forget to critically analyse what we read. As such we It is good to be reminded that we should "Never blindly accept another person's dogma" no matter the source of the information. The example given by one particular foot and ankle orthopaedic surgeon here is of flat feet. I typically aim to teach my clients how to reestablish foot arches as a way to better align the lower limbs and produce force through the ki...netic chain. But the question is this necessary? In terms of semantics, we typically label collapsed arches as a pathology and as such a need for correction. But really the need for arch height is contingent on circumstances such as occupation, sport, activities of daily living. For example, sports in which greater ground contact by the foot allows for better stability and therefore better performance. A specific sporting example that is enhanced by flat feet is skiing. Speaking to George McConkey, son of the infamous Jim McConkey of Whistler, what he has found is that increasing the contact between the foot and ski boot (and therefore the snow) will allow better control of the skis and the ability to keep the knees over the arches. Additionally, the mobility of the arch is associated with shock absorbing characteristics at the ankle and knee. So if we are to establish a 'higher' and more rigid arch then we put more strain on the knee. Therefore it is a fine balance between improving mechanics and joint forces and overstraining tissues. If however, a flat foot has complications such as pain, poor upstream mechanics, reduction in force production or displacement of ankle bones there is a rationale for fixing the foot arches. So as always the bigger picture should be the focus. ~Collate the information and make informed decisions Ben

04.01.2022 Shout out to #mrbodyweightmoustache for the awesome workshop last month! I believe that we as trainers/coaches should act in the capacity of a guide in that we should understand when to pass on a client to professionals more aligned with their goal. Far too often in the industry do trainers attempt to teach advanced skills without the required knowledge. (and the same thing goes for allied health professionals crossing into one another's scope of practice). Guide them to the... right experts. #GymnasticBodies #ChristopherSommer Ben
