25.01.2022 Myth #3: There's been lots of rain Fact: Lots of rain means lots of growth and consequently lots of fuel for bush and grass fires. It only takes a few days of ...hot, dry and windy weather to cure grass and make it flammable. Don't be fooled by the rain, fires are still extremely prevalent and we will see this as the weather heats up. Make a bush fire survival plan so you know what you will do if there’s a bush or grass fire near you. Visit myfireplan.com.au #getreadyweekend #inthistogether

23.01.2022 If there is a fire in Kenthurst you will find its alert level on the NSW RFS website, on the radio and in the ‘Fires Near Me’ app. At which level will you enact... your fire plan? ADVICE level means a fire has started. There is no immediate danger. Stay up to date in case the situation changes - Updated whenever there is a significant change. WATCH AND ACT means there is a heightened level of threat. Conditions are changing and you need to start taking action to protect you and your family - Updated approx every 2 hours minimum, or when needed. EMERGENCY WARNING is the highest level of Bush Fire Alert. You may be in danger and need to take action immediately. Any delay now puts your life at risk - Updated every 30 minutes minimum - or whenever a significant change has occurred.

22.01.2022 FACT: You don’t have to live right near the bush to be at risk. Even if your home is a few streets back, you may be at risk. Question: Can you guess the main r...eason homes are lost to bush fires? Answer: Burning embers can travel kilometres ahead of a bush fire. An ‘ember attack’ is the main cause of house loss in bush fires as they can occur before, during and after the fire front passes. Cleaning gutters and patching holes or gaps in your roof is an effective way to protect your home from ember attack. The permit rules are below: You need a fire permit during the Bush Fire Danger Period. Permits are free. Contact your local Fire Control Centre. In some cases, you may need an environmental approval. Check with your Council. Ensure you have firefighting equipment ready at the location of your burn. Ensure you have completed any proposed firebreaks or control lines around the burn location. 21.01.2022 Myth #2: Grass fires are less dangerous then bush fires Fact: With the current rain, a lot of grass has and will grow leading into the summer season. Grass fir...es can move three times as fast as a bush fire, they start easily and spread quickly. Grass fires also have the potential to start bushfires! Grass fires will pose a risk in NSW this fire season so make sure you have a cleared area around your home. This HR has been post...poned ** On Saturday the 24th Kenthurst will be completing a burn on Marieba Road & Binalong Road in Kenthurst, assuming favourable weather conditions. This burn is approximately 50 hectares, however, works its way around a lot of properties. As a result, there will be over 200 RFS personnel attending the burn. There will be several trucks and crew in the area and we ask that drivers take precaution when on roads near the burn. The burn will begin early in the morning with smoke being produced for most of the morning and into the afternoon. Please take precautions to avoid smoke where possible. As always only call 000 if you see an unattended fire! Also a huge thanks to all our residents and community for understanding the need for these burns over the offseason in preparation for the coming months!! We understand the smoke can present challenges for many families and we appreciate your support. This will potentially be our last burn for this offseason.

14.01.2022 Myth #4: A truck will be at my house Fact: There will never be as many fire trucks as there are houses. For a suburb with over 4,500 people, we have 3 trucks. E...ven with the help of other brigades there will never be enough trucks to protect every house. Do not depend on a fire truck being available at your home. But if you and your home are well prepared, you stand a better chance of surviving a bush fire. There are simple things you can do around your home to prepare it for a bush fire, like keeping the grass low and having a cleared area around your home.
