Its great to see our extensive sheds and hard stand areas bustling with activity as all kinds of vessels fill our facility to 100% capacity this week. SCM employs 150 staff, contractors and stakeholders and we handle boats ranging from small pleasure craft to commercial vessels up to 60m. ... 25.01.2022 Congratulations to Peter Harburg and the crew of Black Jack, winners of the 2017 SOLAS Big Boat Challenge renowned as the final hit out before the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race. Black Jack beat long-reigning Wild Oats XI, RP66 Wild Oats X and Karl Kwoks Botin 80 Beau Geste. It was a case of close quarters jousting when Black Jack, winner of the race in 2009 as Alfa Romeo, appeared close to collision with the eight times Sydney Hobart Champion. In the end, Black Jack won b...y 43 seconds, ending WOXIs nine-year winning streak in the Big Boat Challenge. Since 2006 the CYCA has dedicated the event to raise awareness and funds for its SOLAS Trusts, which were established following the 1998 Sydney Hobart Yacht Race when six lives were lost. This superb ship boasts 30 kilometres of rigging and 750 wooden blocks or pulleys. The masts and spars carry 28 sails that spread approximately 930-square-metres of canvas. Since then, she has sailed over 170,000 nautical miles twice around the world, visited 29... countries and many Pacific islands, and opened as a museum in 116 ports. Hundreds of thousands of visitors have come on board to see how Cook and his men lived. Sydney City Marine welcomes HMB Endeavour to our site for maintenance and service, a challenging and extremely fulfilling project and a great sight to behold alongside modern yachts and the span of the ANZAC bridge.
