22.01.2022 Here is an Easter treat for those who love the sound of Handel's music on period instruments and in voices. This is the first - and possibly only -digital broadcast of Paul Dyer's unique take on Handel's Messiah - which opened the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra's 2017 season. Watch it here or on their YouTube channel.
22.01.2022 Thinking about New Year resolutions? Going to more concerts is a good one. The British Medical Journal recently reported a study that found receptive arts engagement could have a protective association with longevity in older adults." i.e. all sorts of arts activities - including going to concerts - are likely to help you to live longer. So get that heart thumping, those synapses firing, those cognitive wheels turning and those joyous emotions soaring; treat yourself to more concerts in 2020 - you'll enjoy great music and could be helping your life expectancy at the same time!
21.01.2022 Those Sydney Mozart Society members and friends who enjoyed the sparkling performance by the Flinders Quartet at our February concert might like to know - if you don't already - that Zoe Knighton is performing TONIGHT at 8:30pm at the Melbourne Digital Concert Hall.
19.01.2022 Flinders Quartet will perform Beethoven's String Quartet Op 130 at our next concert ony Friday 28 Feb 2020 at the Concourse Chatswood. The Cavatina movement from this quartet has the rare distinction of being included on the "Golden Record" launched into space in 1977 aboard the twin Voyager Space Probes. Helen Ireland, the Quartet's violist has said: "The Cavatina from Opus 130, as for so many, has a very special place in my heart, it speaks so deeply and directly to the soul. It's very easy to see why it was selected to be sent into space in 1977." Read the fantastic story about the creation of the Golden Record. Then come to the concert, listen to Beethoven's Op 130 and think about his Cavatina still hurtling through space, millions of miles from earth. It truly is music out of this world!
17.01.2022 Another well-loved artist who has graced our Society's concert stage. If we can't gather to enjoy wonderful live performance, we can enjoy it in the comfort of our homes (and support our favourite artists at the same time!)
17.01.2022 Our 70th season began with a sparkling performance from the Flinders Quartet with Lloyd Van't Hoff on February 28th. Sadly social distancing has forced the postponement of the second concert with the Australian Haydn Ensemble.
12.01.2022 Sophie Rowell and Kristian Chong - whose wonderful concert for us last September will still be fresh in everyone’s minds - are performing a concert to be live-streamed this coming Friday 8th May at 7 pm. The concert showcases two virtuosic masterpieces: Stravinsky’s Suite Italienne and Beethoven’s Kreutzer Sonata. Buy your tickets here: https://watch.melbournedigitalconcerthall.com/#/item/51976
12.01.2022 POSTPONED: Friday 3 April AUSTRALIAN HAYDN ENSEMBLE So, what to do on the evening of Friday 3 April? Two artists who have delighted Sydney Mozart Society audiences are appearing in recitals streaming from Melbourne Digital Concert Hall that evening.... At 7pm, Kristian Chong plays two short pieces and then Schubert’s last piano sonata. And at 8:30pm, Zoe Knighton takes up her cello again to complete her performance of the complete suites by JS Bach for solo cello.

Discussions are taking place with the ensembles and the Concourse to fix alternative dates later in the year, which will be announced as soon as possible. WOULD ALL TICKET HOLDERS PLEASE RETAIN YOUR TICKETS FOR BOTH THE AUSTRALIAN HAYDN ENSEMBLE AND SERAPHIM TRIO CONCERTS AS THE ISSUED TICKETS WILL BE REQUIRED FOR ENTRY ON THE RESCHEDULED DATES. NEW TICKETS WILL NOT BE ISSUED. With the situation changing daily regarding COVID-19 (corona virus) we will continue to monitor health advice from the Australian and NSW Governments and make further changes as necessary. Rest assured, your wellbeing and that of our guest performers remain our highest priority. In addition, the annual general meeting will also be rescheduled and I will keep you informed as things progress. 06.01.2022 See what Limelight thought of last night's offer from Melbourne Digital Concert Hall. Tonight they feature Kristian Chong at 7pm and Zoe Knighton at 8.30pm. #artsolationwithmdch
06.01.2022 We wish our members, friends and performers all the best for Christmas and the New Year. We appreciate your support this year and look forward to seeing you at our first concert for 2020 on 28 February. 2020 promises to be another excellent series of the best in chamber music performed by the many talented musicians we are so fortunate to have in Australia. The founder of the Society 70 years ago, David Worobin, would be possibly surprised and certainly gratified that we are still thriving and providing fine music to the community year on year.

If you didn't get an e-Newsletter, sign up for the next one at our website www.sydneymozartsociety.org.au Dear Members and Friends, Since my last communication with you we have been monitoring developments on the re-opening of concert venues in NSW. Concerts with limited numbers, performance time limits and audience spacing have been recently possible and you may have seen some groups are now offe...ring concerts with these restrictions which is certainly encouraging. With the size of our audience there are logistical difficulties in accommodating the current restrictions even with truncated programming. We have reluctantly decided to cancel the rest of the year’s program and offer our members automatic credit of their 2020 fees towards next year’s series. We will offer 5 rather than 6 concerts in 2021, with no increase in our membership fees. The remaining unused portion of your 2020 fees (only the first concert was held before the shutdown happened) will be automatically credited to next year’s series. 2021 season tickets will be automatically posted to existing members before the first concert on 5 March. Members who are unable to attend next year or to pass on their tickets to family and friends should notify us by email or phone to obtain their refund. We greatly appreciate our members’ support during these unforeseen times. Our next year’s programme is an exciting one. Dates and details will follow here shortly. Our planning is based on concerts being back to normal by next March. That would be a reasonable expectation but of course nothing is certain in these unusual times. Finally, we must thank the scheduled groups and artists who have been unable to perform for us this year: Australian Haydn Ensemble, Seraphim Trio, Australian World Orchestra Chamber Ensemble, Ian Munro and Howard Penny, Tinalley String Quartet. We will make sure that we invite all of these groups and artists to perform concerts for us in future years. With my best regards to all our members and friends, Richard Coleman Hon President For the full version of this message and dates in 2021, see your e-Newsletter. 04.01.2022 For the full version of this message and tentative dates, see your e-Newsletter. If you didn't get an e-Newsletter, sign up for the next one at our website www.sydneymozartsociety.org.au Dear Members and Friends, The uncertainty of the COVID crisis continues for live performances and on present information the Concourse venue will not be re-opening before 1 October at the earliest.... In these circumstances I confirm that the concerts scheduled for 21 August (AWO Chamber Ensemble) and 18 September (Ian Munro and Howard Penny) will not take place. I previously indicated that we would like to try to reschedule as many concerts as possible to dates at the end of this year or early next year before our next year’s series commences. We will provide a further update before the end of September on whether the last concert scheduled for 30 October this year by the Tinalley Quartet will be able to go ahead and also more definite information on plans for rescheduling, refunds or options for credits towards next season. I know everyone appreciates that nothing is certain at present but in the interests both of our members and our ensembles we would like to keep the options open for as long as possible. Please retain all your 2020 tickets as these will be needed for entry to rescheduled events or claiming refunds/credits. Our 2021 series will commence on Friday 5 March 2021. In the meantime I hope that you, our loyal members, are keeping well and look forward very much to the first Friday evening when we will next be together at the Concourse Concert Hall to appreciate the live performance of fine chamber music. With best regards to you all, Richard Coleman Hon President For the full version of this message and tentative dates, see your e-Newsletter. 02.01.2022 A treat to start this weekend: Kathy Selby, Dimity Hall and Julian Smiles perform Beethoven's extraordinary 'Archduke'. All being well, we will see Dimity and Julian grace our stage in March next year as the Goldner String Quartet opens our 2021 Season.
02.01.2022 I hope all our members and supporters are keeping well during all these weeks of isolation and it is good to see some reassuring news emerging in our community at least. We are all no doubt relying on our recordings, videos and the streamings on offer at home to get us through these months without live concerts. The musicians are particularly suffering, financially and artistically, during this period. See our post about a concert this coming Friday 8th May at 7pm by Sophie ...Rowell and Kristian Chong. Participating in a digital performance not only gives us the taste of live performance again but also helps to support the artists. For our own interrupted 2020 series, we have made arrangements to reschedule the two cancelled concerts. When there is greater clarity on the extent to which Government restrictions will be eased over the coming months, we will provide further details. With best regards to you all, Richard Coleman Hon President For the full version of this message, see your e-Newsletter.
