19.01.2022 It’s true! And yes it’s partly due to physiological changes which affect recovery but more so accumulated inactivity. Usually we run around as kids and teenagers. And in our invincible 20’s we carry the benefit of the previous 20yrs of activity. We usually do some sort of socially driven team sport/ activity. And often injure ourselves but soldier on, untreated because we are after all invincible and we bounce back. Then we hit our 30’s. With more focus on moving up the corpo...rate ladder and family commitments. Compared to our 20’s time is much more precious. Activity and incidental exercise can decline. We spend more hours at the desk. And have settled into poor postural positions, leaving us with poor muscle sequencing and inefficient movement. And then when you want to get out there and start doing stuff your body doesn’t respond like you think it should. Simplistically put, your body has forgotten what to do. Some muscles are possibly compromised and not performing due to lack of activity or previous injury. You’ve lost joint strength and stability, your posture poor and your brain just isn’t communicating what you want to do to your muscular skeletal system. You have to be smarter. Include a joint stability and structural workout 1 day a week and you will wake your body up. Get all those deeper joint stabilisers and postural muscles online and minimise your risk of injury. 1 session of either Pilates or Yoga per week will make the world of difference. Or anything else that only uses body weight as load, has little repetition and doesn’t require endurance. Your mind and body will resume their relationship and work together and allow you to get away with doing 2 or 3 gym or similar sessions a week. Good luck and happy exercising

18.01.2022 Im all about the ribcage! Ask any of my clients. Correct posture and movement thru this area is the ultimate goal in any work I do. Otherwise you are just treating the symptom and the results temporary. Ask me about it. Better still come and see me and Ill prove it to you! I think this guy is my brother from another mother.

17.01.2022 Nice little routine

17.01.2022 Wow how good is this!

16.01.2022 Yes, yes, yes! You can see how hard these girls work. I see strength and dedication. Thanks for posting Rachael.

16.01.2022 Nice. Yes core strength is bandied around a lot. I like the range of movements this blog post uses to activate sequences and stable movement patterns.

15.01.2022 Awesome effort Will. If Alzhemiers has touched you maybe think about flicking some cash on the link below.

14.01.2022 Just in case you were out of the office when this memo was handed out. Do it. Its important

13.01.2022 Had an opportunity to go see the show tonight. It was brilliant. Funny, sexy, naughty male burlesque at its best

12.01.2022 Is this the ultimate obstacle challenge?

12.01.2022 Lots of new stuff happening. I had a client who wasnt too worried about wearing his joints out. He reckons by the time he needs new ones theyll have perfected knee replacements

12.01.2022 Stretch to reset muscle length after exercise. Never static stretch as a warm up and never stretch to achieve length. You dont know the difference between a muscle that is contracting to stabilize and a muscle that is overstretched and compromised..... And you really dont want to be stretching either of these. I could tell you stories about yoga teachers Ive treated over the years with connective tissue issues but I wont. Instead know that stretching wont break up damaged muscle tissue but it will over stretch muscle/tendon junctions and increase risk of damage and irritation to tendon attachments. Be clever and use a skilled massage therapist to lengthen muscle and correct posture for efficient movement. Then use stretching to maintain the muscle length and joint space. Too easy!

11.01.2022 I dont normally post metaphysical stuff on this page. But Ill make an exception here. This is a darling friend of mine. Regardless if they are her words or from somewhere else there is an important message and reminder for us all here.

11.01.2022 How good is this!

11.01.2022 This is awesome! To my client whose undying love of running kept running on his prematurely dodgy knees. Well you did say that you were young enough and science would come up with something before they totally failed .

09.01.2022 ****Rant Warning **** Im increasingly pissed off with RTOs churning out sub standard massage therapists. Where the dollar, and meeting set accreditation standards has become much more important than the reputation of the school and the quality of its graduates. Why is this happening? The overseas student market is killing my industry! My profession unfortunately is on the list of accessible diplomas to enrol in to stay in the country. This is not an attack on these young e...nthusiastic souls but rather an attack on training organisations. These are the rich picking fields that the morally and ethically bankrupt RTOs target. Knowing that these people will do and spend whatever it takes to stay in the country. Hopefully in the process, landing a permanent residency visa. There is an argument that courses like this arent available in their own countries but Im yet to come across someone who is learning these skills to return to their own country with. Edit- *its unlikely that anything they study here at that level will be recognised in their own country* Why is it killing the Sydney remedial massage industry? I challenge you to find me a talented qualified remedial massage therapist in Sydney who is a permanent resident that has more than 2yrs experience less than 10. Theres is a missing chunk of experienced therapists in Sydney and its only going to get worse. Before I sold out of the York St clinic all we could get were overseas students on temporary visas who were still studying other diplomas at shonky RTOs, and can only do 20 hours per week paid work. Yes there was some good massage therapists with potential to be great in this field. But when you are studying 2 or 3 days a week, spending all your earnings on courses and immigration lawyers how can you commit and devote your attention to learning your craft when you might not be in the country in 6 months. It will impact you the client as it will become increasingly difficult for you to find a therapist that you can invest in with a view to long term care. A therapist that is invested in your health and aspirations. Who knows you. Knows what makes you tick and knows how to help you kick goals. And will be there in 10 years time when those overtraining injuries start to impact. And more heartbreaking for me is that those overseas students spend so much money and struggle to stay here that you will then become a meal ticket. Just as they were. Im just going to have to teach again and deliver courses to get the skill level needed. Theres no other way around it. Please feel free to comment. Im interested in your view.

09.01.2022 Ask yourself why the muscle is tight. You dont need to follow the principles of this particular form of therapy but you do need to understand why it is so.
