25.01.2022 Were delighted to be able to support the expansion of the work of @The Pink Elephant Support Network #CircleofSupport program through our Be Kind Sydney Appeal so their resources can reach more women in need. Many women and families feel they must cope alone after a pregnancy loss or miscarriage. Please share this resource within your networks so those in need might draw strength from their compassion and kindness.

19.01.2022 Mark Twain wrote that: Nothing that grieves us can be called little: by the eternal laws of proportion a childs loss of a doll and a kings loss of a crown are events of the same size. A beautiful piece reassuring us while all our challenges are relative, its ok to acknowledge your own so you can make space for kindness with others. STARTTS run three Be Kind Sydney priority programs for young people and elder refugees in Greater Sydney.

17.01.2022 Droughts, bushfires, now Covid-19, Our Community Pantry is front-line supporting families of NSW. Feeding more families than ever before, their Bargo shop is closed for safety instead offering drive through pickups. Boots open, empty bags are removed for cleaning, and new hampers full of nourishing food put back in. So critical is the service in the still drought recovering Goulburn area, the local council had a special mandate to ensure they could continue delivering to o...ver 200 families. Deliveries made to the Macarthur region on the outskirts of Sydney have almost doubled. Their older volunteers now in isolation, its a tiny team making sure locals have the food they need to survive. Their new Pay It Forward Pensioner Pack $50 including delivery, looking after their older local folk. Another community treasure were hoping to support this year - #BeKindSydney #SydneyWomensFund #food #feedme See more

15.01.2022 Before coronavirus, the @JSKFund, a sub-fund of Sydney Community Foundation committed extra funds to support Bushfire affected communities through the OzGreen Youth program. Despite the shift in crisis these funds are much needed still in communities and a great demonstration of how this family fund is supporting causes they care about and communities in need.

10.01.2022 "We need to have higher aspirations than going back to normal." Our thoughts are with our community foundation counterparts around the world responding to the now in their neighbourhoods, while preparing for the future as well. With the current acute focus on the home front, community foundations are rising to the challenge of ensuring equity as the short and long-term economic impacts of coronavirus evolve. Community Foundations are a global movement recognising that there are incredible leaders within every neighbourhood who work tirelessly to help people suffering, but may not have the resources to test new ideas they know would make a difference. Together, we provide funding and encouragement for them to respond to the unique needs in their community and grow their support for those in their care.

08.01.2022 Shocking findings in report released today by our Keeping Women Out of Prison Coalition (KWOOP), established by Sydney Community Foundation & Sydney Womens Fund. This important independent research has found "the number of women in prison was due to 66% increase in the proportion of women on remand, not a rise in crime." June Oscar AO Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner of Australian Human Rights Commission delivered the keynote address at la...st years KWOOP & SCF annual breakfast at Parliament House, today reiterating "Urgent Action" is needed. The KWOOP Coalition is a sub-fund of Sydney Community Foundation & Sydney Womens Fund and is a vital part of its advocacy for women and families. We hope this research will encourage government to support more community based diversionary programs to keep women connected with their families as they are supported back on track. Thank you to all the members of the coalition, led by Rosalind Strong AM for their continued dedicated and commitment to improving the lives of women and their families impacted by the justice system. 07.01.2022 Our friends at @gingerandsmart feature this week in an AFR article for #fashionweek how sustainability is woven into their business. Weve seen first hand through our Sydney Womens Fund partnership these past few years their thoughtfulness in how they use sustainable materials in their design, to how they lift up women in our community through our #Strongandkind project. Purpose flows through their work. Like these beautiful FLORAL CHARTS FACE MASK | crafted from upcycled ...sustainably sourced silk viscose jacquard that is washable, adjustable and reusable. Each mask includes two disposable filters that can be inserted between the two layers of fabric. The PM 2.5 replaceable cloth filters work as a daily protection by filtering particles with a diameter of 2.5 micrometres or less. 25% of the RRP of the masks will be donated to our @sydneywomensfund and they are also gifting masks to the Royal Womens Hospital for women having babies during these times... to read more head to their website to order. Like them, you too can create opportunities for women and girls of Sydney by donating to our Be Kind Sydney Covid-19 Appeal. Available online now. Stay Safe XX

06.01.2022 If youve been thinking how you can support the #blacklivesmatter movement, we invite you to make a donation to our Keeping Women Out of Prison (KWOOP) sub-fund. Please donate to improve justice for our Indigenous sisters. We have our own dark story here in Australias justice system. Recent research commissioned by KWOOP revealed that in NSW Indigenous women are over-represented in the sentenced population with a 49% increase since 2013 compared to a 6% increase among non-In...digenous women. The increase in women is largely due to an increase in women held in remand, not an increase in crime. This means that Indigenous women are being arrested, held in remand, then serving short sentences for crimes that could be addressed with community based diversionary programs, keeping families together and reducing the impacts on children by allowing them to stay at home. KWOOP is seeking change through advocacy given Indigenous women are likely to be held longer on remand (58 days) compared to total women (47 days) when the length of sentence is on average 131 days (less than 5 months) for all women sentenced and almost 42 days shorter for Indigenous women at 89 days (less than 3 months). KWOOP advocacy is driving systemic change needed in our NSW justice system but funds are needed to support this work. Please donate to support here: https://www.sydneycommunityfoundation.org.au//kwoop-keepi/

03.01.2022 Today is #GivingTuesday. What started in the US has now become a global movement in generosity. Were thinking of our colleagues at New Yorks Brooklyn Community Foundation who, like us, are striving to raise $1 million to help their local community. They are mourning so many and need to support those who are suffering. It may be easy for many of us to think Sydney is doing well fighting the virus, but our most recent survey of charities tells us too many people are still st...ruggling in Sydney. You can help by donating your morning coffee budget and be kind to a stranger. Hop on the link to give $5.00 to the Be Kind Sydney Covid 19 Appeal or $50.00 if you can! www.sydneycommunityfoundation.org.au/bks/donate Thank you to those who have given so generously already and our charities and front line essential workers. Together, were building stronger Sydney communities.

03.01.2022 Thank you for those who were able to vote and to all our supporters for being on this journey. A fantastic win today for Sydney Womens Fund.

02.01.2022 Mobile devices are lifelines, especially now. The COVID-19 crisis is highlighting just how essential it is for individuals, families and school-aged children to stay connected. Mobile connections help people seeking asylum continue working with @Asylum Seekers Centre on their health, job search and study during the pandemic. Be Kind Sydney Covid-19 Appeal will support the Asylum Seekers Centre with an immediate relief grant to make sure families can access help and their kids connect with local schools and continue their education. You can support vital programs helping those with no where else to turn. Donate to: www.sydneycommunityfoundation.org.au/bks/donate

02.01.2022 Keira's Contribution is a new a sub-fund of Sydney Community Foundation, and will support and contribute to research relating to newborn infections and support bereaved families. Our hearts are with parents Victoria and Danny in their journey and we join with them in thanking their supporters who have already made contributions to their important work in memory of Keira. https://www.smh.com.au//baby-kiera-only-lived-five-hours-b
