23.01.2022 Today marks 102 years since the signing of the peace agreement between Germany and the Allies that ended the Great War of 1914-1918. Almost one million Australians served during the conflict lasted close to six years. Today we take a moment to reflect on the lives that were lost. A service held at the War Memorial can be viewed here: https://youtu.be/IlqLnE27OPs

23.01.2022 New findings highlight how the deterioration of close relationships during COVID-19 has had, and continues to have, a negative impact on people’s mental health, particularly among those with mood disorders. Clinical psychologist Andrew Wu explained more in an article published in SCS' monthly magazine, The Village Observer. Read the digital version of the story by clicking below.

21.01.2022 SCS CEO Gill Batt featured on the excellent In the Cove podcast a couple of weeks ago. In the interview Gill breaks down all our services and how they are best accessed. First port of call? Give us a ring on 9427 6425, go online at sydneycs.org, or pop into the offices at 1 Pottery Lane, Lane Cove. You can listen to the podcast here (it also features a wonderful chat with Lane Cove artist Paul Bennett): https://podcasts.apple.com//podc/in-the-cove/id1534989493

19.01.2022 Good news this morning as COVID restrictions are further eased ahead of Christmas. The number of people visiting a house will increase from 20 to 30. Pubs and restaurants will be allowed one person per two square metres, and small venues/restaurants will be able to allow 50 people inside. Up to 50 people will also be allowed to gather in an outdoor space, an increase from 30. More information can be found on the NSW government website: https://www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19

16.01.2022 Interesting article on The Conversation today: "We need to shift the conversation on ageing to healthy ageing and creating environments that better support ageing in place. Age-friendly places aren’t just good for older people. They also support the needs of children, people with a disability and everyone else in a community." https://theconversation.com/aged-care-isnt-working-but-we-c

12.01.2022 We had a ball at the first #FancyFleaMarket at Henley Community Centre on Saturday morning. Staged by Hunter's Hill Council as part of #garagesaletrail - all funds from the morning were donated to us, Sydney Community Services. A bbq and drinks were on offer to everyone - enjoyed outside on the green by the Happy Hens Community Garden (which is full to the brim right now). Fingers crossed the Market can become a regular fixture on the local calendar. A massive thank you to HH Council and all those who took part and came along!!! (All COVID-safe precautions were taken)

10.01.2022 #funfriday - this week has been #FrogID week - Australia's biggest frog count. It's a simple case of downloading the app and recording the sounds of the frogs you may come across in your back yard (or maybe your neighbour's backyard). The app can tell from the frog's call what type of frog it is. More than 240 types of frogs live in Australia and each has a different call. Have a fun weekend all (weather's looking good down here in Sydney)!

01.01.2022 Today marks the beginning of #NAIDOC week. The theme this year is "Always Was, Always Will Be," recognising that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. #NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life. It is a great opportunity to participate in a range of activities and to support your local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. You can find out more here: https://www.naidoc.org.au/

01.01.2022 Each month, our CEO Gill Batt posts a letter to SCS volunteers and the local community we serve. You can read November's letter here. https://www.sydneycs.org/novembers-letter-from-ceo-gill-ba/
