25.01.2022 Well it's finally here! The CBD and South East Light Rail is officially open between Circular Quay and Randwick with the Kingsford branch scheduled to open in M...arch next year. After some hiccups during the opening weekend the light rail's first peak hour service on Monday morning went very smoothly. As Andrew Constance MP has said, it will take a number of months to bed down and I'm sure once this is done, travel times will be reduced. In the meantime this long awaited project in conjunction with the impeding removal of the lockouts will completely revitalise our great global city!

23.01.2022 Small business is suffering from the biggest downturn in trade that most of us can remember. In Haymarket, Kensington, Randwick, Chatswood, Eastwood, many busin...esses are down 90% with some making the heartbreaking decision to close temporarily. For some, they may not reopen.Throughout the CBD of Sydney, I am hearing varying reports of how much small business has been affected by the reduction in foot traffic but there is one thing for certain - everyone is down. Council has resolved to take action to improve the activation and promotion of the area, but unfortunately that wont be enough. I want more done to help our small and family businesses during this difficult time. We are all in this together so I am calling on Council to immediately suspend all fees collected by Council from Small Business. Fees such as Outdoor Dining fees should be waived immediately. I also call on the state government to suspend payroll tax for all small businesses affected by the downturn in the retail market. Finally, I call on landlords to do their bit. Some small businesses are down by 90% with rent and wages the biggest overhead. Any small rent reduction will ensure the landlord still has a tenant when this is all over and the small business tenant can hang on for just that little bit longer. 20.01.2022 Yesterday I had the pleasure of meeting Mark Newman, Managing Director of Dymocks Books, who gave me a tour of the Dymocks Building on George Street in the hear...t of the CBD. The Dymocks Building, or 'The Block' as it was historically known, was designed by the architect Frederick Herbert Broughton Wilton. The first half of the building was completed in 1928, the remainder in 1932. It was to house the 'bazaar' style of retailing, with specialty businesses offering a wide range of unusual goods and services. Throughout World War II and for many years after, the building provided office space for government departments. It was not until the 1980s that The Dymocks Building was restored to specialise in the unique businesses for which it had been designed decades earlier. At street level it remains the home for the Dymocks Sydney Bookstore and most recently the Dymocks Stationary Store. Today over 120 specialty stores and businesses specialising in wedding, jewellery, health, beauty, fashion, gifts, collectibles, training, business and personal services.

Corporate social responsibility efforts have seen a huge pushbut mismanaging these messages can lead to backlash and reputational damage. 01.01.2022 Last night Lord Mayor Clover Moore and all the other City of Sydney Councillors, except me, voted in favour of coming up with a plan to convert Moore Park Golf ...Course from an 18-hole to a nine-hole course, with a view to increasing the size of the adjacent public park. This proposal has been a pet project of Lord Mayor Clover Moore since at least mid-2016. Last night she opportunistically resurrected the idea under the guise of it being an urgent measure for a Post-COVID-19 City. I am strongly opposed to the Lord Mayors plan for a number of reasons. Firstly, the community has had its say and is strongly in favour of retaining the existing 18-hole golf course, as indicated in the 700 responses to the public exhibition of the Moore Park Masterplan 2040. The Masterplan, developed over two years, provides a blueprint to guide the direction and management of the Park over the next 25 years. Secondly, the golf course contributes around a quarter of the Centennial Parklands revenue, necessary to run and maintain the extensive parklands around Centennial and Moore parks. Thirdly, Moore Park Golf Course remains one of the busiest public championship golf courses in Australia. In the 2018-2019 financial year, 60,000 rounds of golf were played at the course. The 18-hole Moore Park Golf Course is an historic public open space gem within a stones throw of the CBD. It is loved and heavily used by locals and visitors alike. It is financially viable and makes a significant contribution to ensuring the surrounding extensive parklands can remain open and accessible by all.
