07.01.2022 Leptospirosis Outbreak Alert! In the last 2 days, several cases have been seen in the Sydney city area (Randwick) and the inner west area. It is advisable that dogs in these areas get vaccinated for Leptospirosis: a C2i vaccination, which needs to be repeated two (2) weeks later to achieve full immunity. If any other areas are implicated we will inform you all immediately. This disease while uncommon, is often fatal, as it attacks the kidneys, in particular and can be very difficult to control, despite best efforts to slow its progress.

07.01.2022 I just came back from Colyton Veterinary Hospital we just tested our dachshunds to ensure our kennel is free of SDMD. This is a NEW genetic test offered only in the USA as of October 2020. Some very old UK import lines have show to be carriers for this dreadful disease in miniature smooth dachshunds. Affected dogs have also been found in South Africa and USA, the majority of diagnosed dogs have been in AUSTRALIA!! If you are looking for a pet mini smooth dachshund ask your br...eeder "Have you tested for Muscular Dystrophy"? Both parents must carry to produce an AFFECTED puppy. Although we do not suspect we have carriers of SDMD. I hope to clear our breeding dogs, so we can help other breeders in their efforts to breed healthy puppies in the future. Are Dachshunds trainable as I have heard they are stubborn..?.. my answer, with the right tools you can get your dachshund like Lotte. A smaller litter of 3 pups, I Started clicker training them at 3 weeks old. I would put food in the pen and click the clicker. ... When the pups hear the clicker they know food is coming, intant gratification. Look at only 10 weeks old, this girl just gets it and is egar to please!
