23.01.2022 Just ran a Kids Cooking Workshop last week and the kids had so many good questions for our dietitians. One of them asked is ice-cream part of the five food groups as it contains milk. Our dietitians explained while it contains milk it is not an essential food for us but rather it is considered a discretionary food which should be consumed in small amount as it is high in fat and sugar. Our dietitians, Erin and Chicco, were very patient and eager to answer all the kids questions and walk them through the concepts of five food group and discretionary foods.

How did people find Sydney Dietetics among the trillions of pages out there??? anyway we will be running more weekend Kids Cooking Workshop in Rozelle. Hopefully, we will get supports from the local community.

05.01.2022 At this afternoon's workshop, we discussed the various types of fats with the children from Ultimo primary school who were very excited to learn about dietary fats. Our dietitian, Victoria, explained to the children why they need to include fat in their diet, what type of fats is best for them and how much fat are contained in the food they normally eat. The kids enjoyed making tuna, veggie pasta salad AND EATING it too. After all the "hard" work of slicing the cucumber, p...eeling and grating the carrot, cutting the corn kernels off the corn cob, they can enjoy their own creation. At first, they thought it would taste bland (as it was made without salt and mayo etc), but once they tasted the fresh veggie particularly the corn kernels they cut off from the cob themselves the plates were polished off pretty quickly. I hope with more "training" their palate will accept low salt food more.:) See more
