22.01.2022 Our big beautiful Suzie is a 2 year old Boxer cross searching for a new family who can help bring out her confidence. While Suzie can be a social butterfly around other dogs, she tends to be uncertain of the outside world. It’s best she finds a quiet household with humans who can give her the time and patience she needs to get comfortable, with the help of a professional trainer. Any children in her new home will need to be over 10 years old age. 20.01.2022 As a result of the Covid-19 crisis, we have implemented new safety procedures to ensure adequate social distancing is maintained. One of the most significant changes is that adoptions are now organised by appointment only. Sadly, in the current environment, we are unable to welcome members of the community dropping in to view the pets in our care. If you are interested in adopting a pet from Sydney Dogs & Cats Home, our current process is as follows: ... 1. Go to our website: sydneydogsandcatshome.org/adopt 2. Select the pet you think will suit your lifestyle and family 3. Email the shelter at [email protected] to request an application form (please note: the name of the pet and the Animal ID can be found on the pet’s profile page) 4. Upon receipt of your request, an application will be sent and/or a member of the shelter team will call you for a more comprehensive chat. The staff will advise you if there are any special requirements or steps involved in adopting your particular animal 5. If the adoption proceeds: a. you will be emailed the relevant paperwork to be filled out and emailed back before you pick up the animal b. payment will be made via credit/debit card over the phone or by non-contact payment at the shelter for cash payments c. the staff will book a time for you to pick up your new family member. We realise this process is a bit different, but we are here to help you with your new pet as you settle them in. All adoptions come with a three week trial period so you will have time to get to know your animal’s personality at home before finalising the adoption. We are currently experiencing a significant increase in phone and email traffic and are working with a reduced number of team members, so please be patient as we get to your adoption enquiries.
20.01.2022 Cat and Kitten Foster Carers Needed Has COVID foiled your plans this holiday season? Not to worry - you can foster a cat or kitten instead! With many of our foster carers going away soon, we need a community of carers who will be available during December and January to care for cats just like these!... If you’re able to become a cat or kitten foster carer during this period, please send through an enquiry via our website: https://sydneydogsandcatshome.org//foster/fostering-cats-/
20.01.2022 Jezzabelle is sweet, chatty lady who is looking to share her life with a quiet family, willing to give her their undivided attention. Jezzabelle has been a fantastic mummy to three gorgeous kittens, but has well and truly earned some relaxing time now that her bubs have left the nest! This loving lady enjoys the company of humans and loves to chat about her day with sweet little meows, followed by a head bump to demand some attention.... Being a quiet girl herself, Jezzabelle would be best suited to a calm household with plenty of high spots for her to retire to and watch the world pass her by. She’s a curious girl and likes to explore the house, but has shown that having another cat around is not what she’s into she wants to hog all the love! To learn more about Jezzabelle, send an enquiry via her adoption profile: https://sydneydogsandcatshome.org/animal/jezzebelle/ Rehoming organisation: R251000137

19.01.2022 Julian received a very happy birthday surprise when he arrived at the Home yesterday! His family had been searching for a rescue kitten for some time, but they just weren’t having any luck. So when they called the Home, our Reception Team Leader Kylie cooked up something special just in time for Julian’s birthday. Yesterday afternoon, Julian and his brother Gabriel thought they were coming to the shelter to learn about the responsibilities of cat ownership, when they were s...urprised with a kitten of their own! Julian and his family went home with Eggnog, a playful and affectionate kitten that they determined was a perfect fit for their home. Congrats to the happy family!
18.01.2022 "Hi! My name is Charlie and I’m a loving, relaxed and easygoing boy. My favourite things are snuggling on the couch, chatting with my humans and being brushed. At 9 years old, I might be a bit of an older fella, but I still have my playful and silly moments, especially now I've got a warm, safe and comfortable place to live. My foster mums have been very busy making up for the lack of cuddles I received while living on the streets and I would love to go to a gentle home w...here I can continue to be spoiled! My favourite spot to hang out is in your lap, but I am also happy to curl up and snooze on the couch. I’m friendly with new people and adapt easily to new situations. Being an older boy, I would prefer to live with adults or a family with kids over 10 years old. I’m part of a very selective group of FIV positive kitties. This just means that I’m extra special - I need to live indoors only, and would need to be a solo kitty." Does Charlie sound like the boy for you? 17.01.2022 On the first of December, a policeman brought to me, a box of kittens riddled with fleas ’Twas the first of December, when at our front door, A policeman arrived, a surprise was in store. A cardboard box was held by his side,... And 12 tiny kittens were nuzzled inside. Found at a pool looking scruffy and alone, The kittens were lucky to end up at the Home. Our vet checked their skin, their fur and their eyes, A plan for their recovery the team did advise. With coccidia in their belly, and fur filled with fleas, Anti-parasitics put their bodies at ease. Some kittens did suffer a sneeze and a cry, But a few eye drops later, their spirits were high. Being so small, only the size of a pear, The kittens were sent off into foster care. In foster the kittens grew strong and gained weight, All happy and healthy for their new adoption date. The kittens are looking for a place that’s forever, A family of humans who will dote and endeavour, To give each kitten a future that is bright. To learn more and apply, please head our site: https://sydneydogsandcatshome.org/12-kittens-of-christmas/
14.01.2022 Buddy is a spirited and lively 13-year-old boy who hasn’t let his age slow him down! He loves to get out and about for his daily trot through the neighbourhood, happy to say hello to anyone he meets along the way! Buddy enjoys the odd play with dogs of similar size and energy, and loves to make sure he sniffs every inch of ground! Being a senior, he has a few health issues that will need monitoring in his new home, none of which seem to be causing him too much discomfort! 11.01.2022 Alumni Update: Yuna (previously Zia) It was simply mean to be when Yuna the heterochromia cat was transferred to our adoption partner PETstock in December last year. One of their employees Lilith had been looking for a cat with mis-matching eyes for quite some time but things just weren’t working out, so as she puts it, everything just seemed like it was fate. Like with all the rescue cats, Lilith and her coworker would spend a lot of time with Yuna after their shifts. ...Several days after her arrival, Yuna hadn’t found home, so Lilith decided to adopt. Lilith told us: Yuna has become much more open and talkative with us since she's gotten home. She will actively chase you to the toilet and demand pats by meowing loudly. She loves to hog the office chairs and fall asleep on our laps. Sometimes she meows just to have a chat. She really, really loves getting attention from my partner and I. Since she's an indoor only cat, she also enjoys the rare chances to bask on the windowsills when the sun is out, sleeping in weird places like on top of our rabbit's hay stack, and playing hide and seek with us as we panic to find which cupboard she's gone inside again. Yuna is a loving cat... Most of the time she just wants to be involved with what we're doing, joining in while we cook, sleep or vacuum, etc. She's learnt how to talk quite well - not an hour spent awake is spent without meowing. It's very cute and funny to hold a conversation with her. Yuna has been such a blessing for us. Fun fact: Heterochromia is a condition caused from a lack or excess of Melanin. While it can develop from injury or illness, genetics is the major cause, as is with Yuna. Some people believe heterochromia can cause deafness, but this is more of a coincidence, due to certain breeds and colourations being prone to hetreochromia.
10.01.2022 Alumni Update: George Adopted in August this year, George very quickly made himself at home with his adopted family. Within a week, he’d made plenty of doggy friends at the park and was going on lots of fun adventures. George’s adopter Diana told us: We are so impressed with what a well behaved little man he is. We’ve been able to take him just about everywhere with us - he’ll happily sunbathe while we’re eating at a cafe or play with the other doggos at the pub. We... discovered he loves the beach but above all he is a cuddle monster who loves nothing more than to snuggle up on the couch or the bed. As you can see, George is looking very comfy with his new humans, the household couch and his favourite object - a football!
10.01.2022 Guess what? Next week Ella will celebrate her four year adoption anniversary! Ella was one of three puppies born in foster care in 2016. Her foster family cared for her, as well as her mum and siblings, until they were all ready for adoption. But when it came time for rehoming, Ella’s carers just couldn’t let her go! Ella’s adopter Michelle told us the decision to keep Ella was simple: We couldn’t have gone from having a house full of four dogs to none! My kids would have never spoken to me again! Ella is a perfect fit for our family; she is the most beautiful, fun little dog. We always get stopped, as she is so cute. She has taught us a lot and we couldn’t imagine life without her.
10.01.2022 What act of generosity will you perform this #GivingTuesday? Created in 2012, Giving Tuesday was created as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. To commemorate this special day, we want to hear your #MyGivingStory, about why you give - whether it be time, money or goods. We want to know:... How you give Who you give to Why you give How giving makes you feel To give you some inspiration, we heard from our donor Karol, who donated towards an injured Mastiff cross named Jack Sparrow earlier this year. Jack needed surgery after a leg injury from a suspected car accident. Karol donated twice towards Jack’s surgery - when his surgery date was on the horizon and we were just short of our fundraising goal, Karol topped off the donations to reach our target. Karol told us: I believe that the work that Sydney Dogs & Cats home do is so special, and that every dog deserves the best chance to have a fulfilling life. Also there are times where I feel so helpless and sad that there are so many dogs that don’t get that chance. But providing a donation is something I CAN do, and I knew SDCH would put it to good use for Jack! I felt like I had done my little bit to help. I was really grateful to get a message almost immediately from SDCH thanking me! I knew then that they would keep me posted on the outcome. It showed they cared and knew that everyone who donated really cared too. [I was] absolutely over the moon [to hear about Jack’s outcome], and to hear that Jack also found his forever home was the icing on the cake. I’m sure for all the staff there, and the followers too, that giving dogs and cats the best chance in life can be a beautiful experience but it can also be a sad, tough road. It’s outcomes like this that keep us going! If you’re looking for a way to give this #GivingTuesday, consider donating towards our Christmas Appeal, to help pets receive the care they desperately deserve, so they can spend Christmas in a safe, happy, loving home: https://sydneydogsandcatshome.giveeasy.org/xmas-2020-fb-post #GivingTuesdayAUS
