We personally would like to thank everyone who donated tyres to help get our race track ready. At the latest count, Aeroflow had delivered 34 tyres including brand new sets to help get the rubber down. 18.01.2022 It is all happening down at Sydney Dragway this week, with many areas of our venue expected to be completed over the next week. Firstly, our braking area and turn around is being asphalted today and tomorrow. Our new venue exit lane is being asphalted with an automatic gate being installed. The Show n Shine area on our East Bank Hill is also being asphalted today. ... The Start line safety walls have been completely formed and ready for Concrete! Watch out for this week Time-lapse.

17.01.2022 Today, We received the very sad news that Willowbank Raceways John Stomper Winterburn has passed away unexpectedly, and he will be sadly missed by all of his... family and friends. Only a few days ago he was honoured for his lengthy and meritorious service to the sport with news that he will be inducted into the International Drag Racing Hall of Fame for 2021. We are all so glad that he knew about this induction before he passed today, as it is a fitting tribute to his work in the sport for over 50 years. Johns list of achievements is endless, but here is a summary .... Winterburns contribution to Queensland and Australian drag racing involves an unmatched 54 continuous years of service. He began his connection with the sport in 1966, aged 17, when he volunteered to be an official at the opening event of Surfers Paradise International Raceway. He spent 21 years as an official at Surfers, 15 years as that tracks meeting director, then when Surfers closed, was Willowbank Raceway meeting director for 14 years. Winterburn was a member of the Willowbank Raceway management committee for 35 years, the first 32 of which he was president of the board. He stood down from the board in 2017, but remains an official at the track. On April 10, 2016, at the former site of Surfers Raceway, Willowbank Raceway made a presentation to Winterburn to acknowledge 50 years as an official. The plaque read: From the moment John Winterburn answered a request to help out at the first meeting at Surfers Raceway in 1966, he devoted his life to the goal of drag racing excellence. He exerted an enormously positive impact on the sport through his dedication, selfless commitment and organisational skills. This lifetime endeavour went hand-in-hand with a level of integrity that was beyond reproach. In 2017, the board of management appointed Winterburn the first Lifetime Patron of Willowbank Raceway and also presented him with a silver ring in recognition of his valuable contributions to drag racing. Willowbank Raceway president Tony Wedlock said Winterburn was there from the very start of drag racing at Surfers and when he and Willowbanks first manager Dennis Syrmis realised Surfers would not survive development on the Gold Coast, they were instrumental in helping get Willowbank off the ground. So, Stomper was also there from the very start of Willowbank. Stomper is also remembered as one of the Willowbank Seven from the management committee who signed mortgage documents guaranteeing a bank loan that allowed them to pave the race track. Thats dedication, putting your money where your mouth is and we would not be here if not for Stomper and the others like him. This is international recognition for the enormously valuable role Stomper has played in the development of drag racing, not just in Queensland, but in Australia, because the fantastic success of the sport in this state led to a strengthening of drag racing Australia-wide and Stomper was a huge part of that, Wedlock said. As far as drag racing goes, Stomper is a national treasure and this recognition is most appropriate and well deserved. The time and the effort Stomper has spent in the service of the sport is unparalleled and will never be surpassed. He has devoted all his adult life working towards the goal of drag racing excellence and he certainly achieved that. Thank You John RIP John "Stomper" Winterburn

02.01.2022 2020 Atlantic Oils East Coast Thunder Cancelled Unfortunately, due to the current COVID-19 restrictions across Australia, the 2020 Atlantic Oils East Coast Thunder, that was due to be held at Sydney Dragway in early November, has been cancelled. Sydney Dragway General Manager Peter Beaumont said today, As much as we were looking forward to hosting this event at our newly re-furbished facility, the current situation surrounding limited spectator numbers and the ever changing ...regulations around public gatherings has made planning for this event extremely difficult. In 2019 we welcomed a new naming rights partner for this event in Atlantic Oils, and they were excited to grow their presence at the 2020 event. Unfortunately, hosting over 1,000 guests of Atlantic in the current climate is just not feasible and the unclear future of large spectator crowds has driven this decision. He continued; We are working closely with the team from Atlantic Oils to ensure that we maintain a strong relationship, as well as continue to build on what has been an extremely successful and fruitful partnership over the last 18 months. Whilst the decision to cancel the event has been difficult, the varying regulations on border closures, and restricted movements across the country, illustrates that it will be sometime before crowds can return without the risks that currently exist. As the Atlantic Oils East Coast Thunder is part of the 400 Thunder Australian Drag Racing Championship Series, the inability for competitors to attend such events arising from circumstances outside anyones control has also created a difficult situation for the 400 Thunder series administrators. We absolutely wanted to run this event in Sydney, especially with all the venue upgrades that have taken place during the COVID-19 shutdown said 400 Thunder General Manager Steve Bettes. The reality of the situation is that if our competitors cannot get to the venue due to border closures in their home state, then the fairness and integrity of the Series Championship is drawn into question and that is something that we are not prepared to compromise on. We apologise to the fans and racers out there, all of whom were looking forward to the Atlantic Oils East Coast Thunder. We thank you for your understanding in this difficult situation and look forward to seeing you at our future events. The next round of the 400 Thunder Championship Series is scheduled for January 2021, the New Years Thunder at Willowbank Raceway. This, however, is subject to the lifting of a number of COVID-19 restrictions, including travel restrictions and border closures.
