25.01.2022 I'm one of the Sydney Greeters. As I'm unable to spend time with guests at the moment, I thought I would play tourist (albeit alone) in my own city. First I t...ook a stroll through The Rocks - the historic area of Sydney. Usually bustling with tourists, it was sadly very quiet, and not many places opened, but was nice to get a sense of a Sydney from yesteryear. I then walked around to Darling Harbour. One of the restaurants there now has an innovative way for people to dine inside plastic domes! I then visited two attractions I hadn't been to before - Madam Tussauds and the Sydney Sea Life Aquarium. It was great to meet some famous people at Madam Tussauds. The Aquarium was also wonderful to see and well worth the visit. I'm looking forward to the day when I can show people around my wonderful city again! #sydneygreeters #ilovesydney International Greeter Association See more
24.01.2022 Lyn enjoyed showing fellow greeters Lex, Mark and Rick the beauty of Bobbin Head on Friday. Despite the heat of the day, they visited the Park’s scale model of the Egyptian Sphinx, managed a bush walk to a small rainforest and inspected an aboriginal rock engraving and axe sharpening grooves. After lunch at the cafe (where they were joined by a friendly water dragon) and an ice cream at the marina fish nursery, they relaxed on the banks of Cowan Creek at Apple Tree Bay to the relaxing sound of birdsong and cicadas. Summer is definitely well on its way. #sydneygreeters #ilovesydney #internationalgreeterassociation
19.01.2022 Greeter Caroline is from Devon UK but has lived in Australia for the past 3 years. She is always keen to learn more about the broader metropolitan area of Sydney so Lyn recently took her north of the city to discover Terry Hills, Cottage Point, West Head, Church Point and Newport. It was sunny and warm with blue skies making it a perfect winters day. Highlights included Kuring-gai National Park with its beautiful bush and waterscapes and the wharfside lunch overlooking the marina and Scotland Island. The coffees and sunset views over Pittwater from The Newport later weren’t too bad either :) #ilovesydney #Sydneygreeters International Greeter Association
18.01.2022 The leafy North Shore has it own charm and Lyn recently introduced fellow greeter, Caroline from England, and past guest, Salma from Cairo, to the beauty of Wahroonga. Salma booked a greet back in 2017 when she was visiting Sydney for a work interview. She got the job and moved here shortly after. Since then Salma and Lyn have explored various areas together. Caroline also enjoys discovering more of our diverse suburbs. Wahroonga abounds with trees which are flowering pr...ofusely at the moment so it’s a good time to visit. We are so fortunate with so many colourful blossoms in the middle of winter. Apart from its abundant flora, parks and native bush, the suburb boasts many stunning homes .. some heritage, some new. An interesting piece of history is The Fisk Memorial at ‘Lucania’ which was unveiled in 1935 by former Prime Minister, Billy Hughes, to commemorate the first direct wireless message from UK to Australia. The message was dispatched from Wales, under the direction of Guglielmo Marconi in 1918. A coffee in the local park is always a pleasure.

06.01.2022 Since we are still closed fo business, we have come up with the concept of internal Greeter Greets to give our Greeters the opportunity to meet other Greeters during these times and learn about different suburbs. Report from Cecily: Yesterday Lyn, Mike and I did a tour of Annandale, enjoying a wide variety of architectural styles, and a vibrant community environment. We took in the high Victorian Witches' Houses, including Kenilworth, where Sir Henry Parkes spent his final y...ears, as well as the historic churches of the area. We visited Marvin in his colourful South American "Toucan Shop" and a small park developed over the years by Ecuadorian bead-maker, Mario, who invited us into his studio. This was followed by the Thai Buddhist temple, which, though an Annandale resident, I had not visited before. Of course, a great greet will often involve food and drink, and we ended up at the North Annandale Hotel for a fine meal and a bevvie.

02.01.2022 Great short video on walking across the Sydney Harbour Bridge
02.01.2022 Today we have a report from Cecily "Yesterday I visited my spiritual home, Callan Park with fellow greeter Lyn Sheather. Happily, it is still jacaranda season. We enjoyed the historic buildings and the oriental gardens - originally created for therapeutic reasons, and still soothing to this day.... There is a huge variety of tree species in this 61-hectare park. My favourite hideaway is The Glen, a tiny patch of rainforest. Lyn and I enjoyed a cheap and cheerful afterwards at the Malaysian Small Chilli Restaurant nearby." ##SydneyGreeters #GreetersGreetingGreeters International Greeter Association
01.01.2022 Sydney Greeters Cecily and Monica had previously shown Lyn around their inner-city suburbs of Annandale and Balmain. For something different, this week they visited Lyn’s neighbourhood in North Turramurra and discovered the delights of nearby Bobbin Head in Kuring-gai National Park. It was a perfect spring day and the wildflowers were in bloom. They visited the marina for a coffee, took a bush walk to the small rainforest, had lunch at the Bobbin Inn and finally enjoyed a coffee by Cowan Creek. The wildlife was out in force and nature provided a lovely respite from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. #sydneygreeters #ilovesydney #internationalgreeterassociation
