24.01.2022 Got a minute to share an incredible experience we had from our last order sorting process. A small workgroup of enthusiasts (Amy F, Irina, Stas) lead by Amy Hallihan introduced a number of operational improvements which made the sorting process much shorter and so much fun! A big highlight is a DIY sorting station made of the water jar and wooden panels from Ikea. Thats how we roll ;) #sydneycoop #order #operations

23.01.2022 The Earth is in Our Hands Sustainability (in it general sense) is always on top of our mind. And although there are always 1000 ways to get better, we opt to progress one step at a time and enjoy the ride. This time we decided to source packaging from more sustainable sources rather than a supermarket nearby. With a great help of Amy Flanagan we found this compostable bags made of... corn. It means it is not just green in colour... it is green by nature. April Order Particip...ants will experience some of their split orders to come in them.. while contributors sorting on the day are still welcomed to come with their own jars (as reusable is still better than consumable). #sydneycoop #sustainability #operations

CHOICE is doing great job in pushing towards a better food labeling related to sugar content. They are willing to send you a pre-paid envelop and give you simple points to write a letter to government in advance of the coming hearing on this matter. The original American pyramid suggest 6-11 servings of bread, cereal, rice and pasta per day thanks to the food industry lobbying (obesity rates have increased ever since the introduction of the food pyramid, as millions of people suddenly thought eating eleven billion slices of white bread per day to stay healthy). In Australia the food pyramid official design is maintained by an independent non-for-profit Nutrition Australia. 11.01.2022 How much should be premium for convenience? 300%! A colleague bought some chia seeds for her morning pudding. $30 per kg for non organic seeds. Our last order saw 10 members sharing 15kg of Organic chia for... ~$10 per kg. We might pay a premium for luxury products or brands we respect - but for food staples from a generic store?!... #sydneycoop #pricing

We started to use OpenBasket as our new ordering platform, as it solves the three largest issues of SHC: 1) ordering from multiple suppliers (e.g. Honest to Goodness for pantry staples, Unique Health Products for healthy snacks, etc.) 2) automatic payments/refunds... 3) mobile friendly interface to order wholesale as an individual or as a collective.
