24.01.2022 Hello to the Hills Shire Residents, It is with great regret that the Rotary Club of Castle Hill has decided that the Cross Country Challenge which was to be held in September as part of the Orange Blossom Festival is cancelled due to the current Novel19 Coronavirus Pandemnic which we are all facing. Whilst this decision was a very difficult one for us to make,it was done in the interest of the health and wellbeing of all, as we consider that this was paramount for your safety. We will however bring this popular Event back again as it has now become am intergral part of the Hills Shire Orange Blossom Festival. In the meantime all of you stay safe and take care. 03.01.2022 Statement from the Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Michelle Byrne: Cancellation of Orange Blossom Festival The Hills Shire Council is sorry to announce the cancellation of its Orange Blossom Festival. Clearly this was not the course of action that we hoped to take for this much-loved community event, but following the new government measures announced recently and in these challenging times of uncertainty this is now our only viable option. ... We very much hope that the situation in NSW and beyond will have improved enormously by September. But even if it has, we are no longer in a position where we can confirm to our residents, as well as to the acts, food vendors, staff, volunteers and everyone who contributes to this Festival that the Public Health Order, issued by the State Government, will be lifted anytime soon. An event the size of Orange Blossom Festival requires countless hours and months of preparation, including booking entertainment, activities, food vendors, as well as the enormous task of building the infrastructure and amusements which are enjoyed by tens of thousands of people. Normally at this time of the year, we would be well into preparation, but in the current climate, the risk is far too great and the health and safety of our residents is paramount. The cancellation of this years festival will no doubt come as a terrible blow to attendees, as well as for our events team and volunteers who all work very hard to create such a memorable evening - and they do this every single year. While Orange Blossom Festival wont take place in 2020, we are working very hard to create an even better event next year. I want to thank everyone for their patience and understanding in what has been an extremely difficult time. I look forward to celebrating OBF with you all in 2021! Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Michelle Byrne
