12.01.2022 Happy 2020 the extended MIPH/MGH community. I am very pleased to share a short story of one of our MIPH graduates, Erika Bro (2017). Erika received the Fulbright scholarship after graduation, she worked in Brazil. Below is a message Erika sent to me and the report she produced about her work. Well done Erika! "I spent my grant creating a case study that features the story of a multi-faceted project that is pioneering change for children and families affected by Zika. I worked... with a team conducting research and serving families in the favela communities of Salvador following the Zika epidemic, assisting with data entry, visiting homes, introducing a photo diary component to the project so that the mothers share their perspectives of the interactions of the research team with their children, and conducting interviews speaking to the challenges and successes of the data collection process. The report highlights the complexities of the realities of the city, and how the consequences of Zika correlate with deeply rooted inequities. Download the Word document using this link, and feel free to have a read if youre interested: https://drive.google.com//1M0KMai5HQGdzCT2EXWzY5gOiyZ/view".

Patience is now working with US Maryland University on a project focusing on HIV prevention and testing in young people. She has a big responsibility of supervising the project in 10 regions which involves a lot of traveling. I also had the pleasure to meet her husband, a John Hopkins MPH graduate, also working on HIV prevention in marginalized groups. Patience hopes she can come back to Sydney University to pursue her PhD.
