20.01.2022 The time has flown since our last DCC update with the conversion of various areas our layout. After we levelled the former passenger siding area it was time for a 3mm foam underlay then laying out the track plan. As does happen from the design we came up with on paper didn't quite fit and work for the space so we played around with various ideas. For those followers out there new to track laying remember to check where your point motors will need to attach before you finalise... the location of your points. Speaking of points a new set had to be installed from the mainline into the yard which was done over several hours one afternoon with 48153 being the test locomotive to verify all functioning correctly. Once the track plan was agreed by members it was wired up with droppers on every piece of track then tested followed by gluing down.

19.01.2022 While our DCC upgrade works are continuing in other areas of the layout our members are making full use of the new Goods East yard. Must've been a heavy coal program from the mines

18.01.2022 Following on from our recent post of our progress on DCC in our club rooms. After we removed all the scenery around the tracks in the former passenger yard it was time to remove all the tracks that needed removal. This didn't take us very long however we discovered the base boards were rather uneven. To create the best base for the new track we tackled the major variances with a belt sander before filling the gaps and smaller variations with filler.

13.01.2022 After the year which turned everything we know upside down the members of the SMRS had several months of non running. Thankfully we were able to start running for members only in July but with the overall improvement in COVID-19 we've recently decided to allow limited visits to the club. Please message us through Facebook if you'd like to arrange a visit. Currently we're meeting every Monday night from 6.30 pm every 2nd Friday from 11am. We'd also love to welcome all those wh...o have recently liked it followed us on Facebook. Slowly we are approaching 900 fans which is very impressive. We enjoy sharing the happenings of the club with you all. Last but not least our website admins have been busy with some updates recently and lots of videos. If you haven't looked at it previously pop over and have a look https://www.smrs.org.au/

11.01.2022 Continuing on the works to upgrade to DCC. As the layout was designed around shorter train we wanted to be able to incorporate longer modern train operations. Part of that work was a relief road which connects through our largest passenger station Central around and through the remodelled passenger yard. One challenge was height differences which can be seen in the attached photos but this with trial and error was overcome and a variety of methods used to securely attach the base boards to the existing layout. This area isn't operational yet but hopefully it won't be too far away.

05.01.2022 It's been a while since we've posted an update on our conversion to DCC of our club room layout. Late last year we successfully established DCC on one of our 2 main lines. In the first few months of 2020 we've been working on integrating several yards including replacing the decades old points motors with tortoise motors. We also took advantage and redesigned our Passenger Yard to give more storage roads. ... We'll post a series of progress shots over the next few weeks.
