25.01.2022 Right now, dogs and puppies are living in squalid conditions on puppy farms across NSW - but with your help we can end this cruelty. Join Oscars Law Founder De...b Tranter and President Georgie Purcell, for a FB Live puppy farming conference as we answer your questions about how we can take action against puppy farming in NSW. Oscars Law has been at the forefront of the anti-puppy farming campaign, successfully banning puppy farming in Victoria, with similar legislation looking to be passed in WA. But with puppy farming still legal here in NSW, and growing reports of puppy farmers moving across the border into our state, its time we take urgent action. Make sure to tune in on Monday July 13 at 6pm here on my Facebook page, and post your questions below
24.01.2022 LAST DAY TO HAVE YOUR SAY ON MULESING Our MP Mark Pearson is putting a Bill forward in Parliament to end mulesing for good. Show your support by filling in the ...survey in support of the Bill and tell our Government mulesing must be banned in NSW. Fill in the survey here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/J3DYNYT Mulesing is the industry term used to describe the process of young lambs having the skin around their buttocks and the base of their tail cut off with metal shears. This is often done without any pain relief, and with the open wounds taking weeks to heal, these lambs are put at added risk of infection and flystrike. Despite mulesing being banned in many countries across the world, Australia continues to engage in this cruel practice under the belief that it reduces flystrike. Yet several other less invasive and much less painful solutions exist, including closer monitoring of flocks, timely shearing and applying insecticides during fly season. Help tell the NSW Government that its time to ban mulesing once and for all by filling in the short survey below and supporting the Bill put forward by our MP Mark Pearson: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/J3DYNYT

23.01.2022 A Campbelltown petting zoo owner - who stabbed a dog with a pitchfork six times, hung her from a tree alive with the pitchfork still in her body, and later beat... her with a mallet eight times to kill her - has just walked free. The Supreme Court have said such actions do not constitute a crime. Therefore the AJP is calling for an urgent review of the Crimes Act and our weak penalties in NSW. We will not be quiet on this. You were not killed in this sickening and cruel way in vain...

22.01.2022 Now more than ever we need to recognise that the disrespectful treatment of animals has consequences. This year that has never been more obvious. Climate change... and Coronavirus has torn through us and our communities. But consequences are not new to us- SARS, Swine Flu, Bird Flu, heart disease, Mad Cow Disease, and colon cancer have all come at us before. By consequences, I am not talking about karma. I am talking about science. I am talking about cause and effect. When you imprison billions of animals in tight confinement, forcing them to live in squalor, you invite disease. When you kill and feast of the bodies of these animals, you invite disease. When you bulldoze the trees to build industrialized farms with billions of animals that create huge CO2e emissions, you invite climate disasters. We did this. Our species is to blame. I know many of you are frustrated right now because the Government and industry continue to downplay these links. But I look to you for hope. The fate of all species rests with our willingness to choose kindness over greed, respectability over indifference, and to be leaders instead of led. Now is the time to stand up and speak the truth and speak it loudly. If you disagree with any of the links I have made above, challenge me in the comments below and Ill show you the research to back up my claims. To those of you who know this is truth, stand with me and expose it. Stay calm, stay safe, and stay strong - the animals need our compassion and voices more than ever. See more
20.01.2022 One of Australias most-loved mammals, the platypus, is being pushed towards the brink of extinction by climate threats and habitat destruction, researchers say. Platypus numbers may have halved or more since Europeans arrived in Australia, according to a study published in the scientific journal Biological Conservation. The research predicts that local extinctions may have occurred across 40 per cent of the species range due to dam building, land clearing and other disrup...tions. 20.01.2022 An Australia without the Animal Justice Party is an Australia where animals have no representation in our political system leading to unchecked cruelty, abuse... and unbelievable exploitation. That’s where YOU come in. Every additional AJP member means added strength, funds and political capital for the AJP to pursue its animal protection agenda. We are the only party giving a voice to animals in parliament. Click the button below to become a member of the Animal Justice Party today for ONLY $33 per year!
20.01.2022 It’s official: I just introduced the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Amendment (Increased Penalties) Bill 2020. Animal abuse is a serious crime- and it should ...be treated as such. But right now, people are getting heftier parking fines than penalties for extreme animal abuse. We are changing that. My legislation will take us from being one of the softest states on animal cruelty, to one of the toughest. As this legislation continues to be debated in Parliament, I need your help to keep the pressure up to ensure it passes. Show your support by signing the petition here: https://www.emmahurstmp.com/tougher_penalties_petition

17.01.2022 These are some of the pathetic penalties for recent cases of extreme animal cruelty here in NSW. We have some of the lowest penalties for animal cruelty across ...Australia. Lets change that: https://www.emmahurstmp.com/tougher_penalties_petition Slap on the wrist penalties do nothing to deter abuse and fail to recognise the seriousness of these crimes. We wont wait for the Ministers 2 year Action Plan review - tougher penalties are urgently needed now. If you are sick of seeing pitiful sentences for animal abuse or weakened sentences on appeal, speak up for animals by calling for tougher penalties for animal cruelty. Sign the petition here: https://www.emmahurstmp.com/tougher_penalties_petition
16.01.2022 BREAKING: We just passed a Notice calling for the end of puppy farming in NSW. The disgusting reality is that running a puppy farm, a factory of breeding dogs t...o supply a pet industry, is not illegal in NSW. Now that we know we have the support of the majority of Upper House MPs, we have the chance to pass some legislation. To all the puppy factory operators in VIC planning a move to NSW - you might want to re-think! See more

13.01.2022 NEW LEGISLATION FOR ANIMALS TABLED TODAY! Emma Hurst - Animal Justice Party MP's bill has hit Parliament and is set to bring NSW from being one of the weakest... states on animal cruelty to one of the toughest. We've seen too many cases of animal abusers getting off with slap on the wrist penalties (or even no penalty at all!!) - but Emma's legislation will ensure mandatory minimum penalties, and that convicted animal abusers receive a lifelong ban on caring for an animal. As Emma's legislation continues to be debated in Parliament make sure you sign the petition to support her bill: https://www.emmahurstmp.com/tougher_penalties_petition It's time animals in NSW got the protection they deserve.
13.01.2022 Last year an egg farmer was convicted of multiple serious animal cruelty offences to 4000 hens. He was fined only $6,500. To put that into context, thats just ...$1.62 for each animal that suffered. Join the call for tougher penalties now: https://www.emmahurstmp.com/tougher_penalties_petition The suffering of one of these hens is hard to imagine. She lived in piles of excrement and suffered from a respiratory disease, she was severely emaciated and weak due to the deliberate withholding of food and water to try and shock her body into laying more eggs, and her body would have itched from lice infestations. I wouldnt know how to equate her suffering, but Ill say this - she was worth more than $1.62. If you are sick of weak penalties that dont match the crime, demand the penalties change: https://www.emmahurstmp.com/tougher_penalties_petition Photo credit: NSW Hen Rescue
12.01.2022 Dog fighting is an extremely serious issue - abusers often starve, torture, beat and abuse dogs to make them highly aggressive. They then pit these suffering an...imals against each other, often in a brutal fight to the death. This cruel 'blood-sport' might be illegal, but evidence shows it is still happening across NSW and Australia. Learn about what to look for and how to take action by reading our blog here: https://nsw.animaljusticeparty.org/dog-fighting/
12.01.2022 YOU MUST DESEX YOUR CAT OR PAY AN ANNUAL PERMIT AS OF JULY 1 2020 In July 2019 the NSW Government granted a 12-month grace period for the introduction of annual... permits for owners of non-de-sexed cats and dangerous and restricted dogs to allow pet owners more time to prepare for the change. This means that from 1 July 2020 owners of cats not de-sexed by four months of age will be required to pay an $80 annual permit in addition to the one-off lifetime pet registration fee. This will create a stronger incentive to de-sex cats, improve health and wellbeing of pets, lower demand on pounds, reduce euthanasia rates, and help to address concerns about feral, stray and roaming cats. Owners of dogs of a restricted breed or declared to be dangerous will be required to pay a $195 annual permit in addition to their one-off lifetime pet registration fee. This will serve as a further disincentive to owning these dogs and encourage owners to better manage the behaviour of their animal. Exemptions will be in place for cats that are registered by 1 July 2020 and for cats kept for breeding purposes by members of recognised breeding bodies. These changes have been created to improve health and well-being of pets and to encourage owners in better management of their pets. Registration is enforced by Local Council bodies. 11.01.2022 This really is a difficult and controversial issue, what do you think is the solution? 11.01.2022 Heres a nauseating fact: Eating cats and dogs is legal in Australia. Our friends at World Dog Alliance in Hong Kong have reached out to us to help close this l...oophole and join the majority of other countries around the world that have prohibited eating cats and dogs. Its true, the last thing we need is another species of animal on the plate and thats why I am calling on Parliament for our laws to be changed. But while you are here, consider this too: Finger pointing at other cultures is easy whats harder is recognising that no animal wants to suffer and die for our palate. Fish or chicken or pig or dog- they have the same ability to feel pain, the same ability to suffer, and the same capacity to experience joy. Yes, lets be outraged by the legal loophole that allows companion animals to be eaten in Australia. Lets push to close that loophole. But lets also extend this compassion to all animals, and leave every species off the plate.
11.01.2022 If you are still willing to donate and help those who have suffered devastating impact from the bush fires, please donate to the small animal sanctuaries. These people are heroes and need our help. So please donate on link below. Thanks so much.
10.01.2022 Our sanctuary saviour fund raising BBQ last Saturday was a huge success!! Our MP Emma Hurst, has worked tirelessly since the recent bush fires that killed millions of animals and injured millions more, to raise money for the sanctuaries who are trying to care and save those left injured, and or without their habitat. A big THANK YOU to these wonderful people who volunteered their time and to All About Empathy at Kellyville for hosting and their support. We raised over $800 which is a great effort. Thank you to everyone who came and helped make our event a success.
08.01.2022 This is just one reason people shouldnt advertise animals for free...
08.01.2022 BREAKING: New laws will protect animals who are victims of violence. Animals will soon be included in Apprehended Domestic Violence Orders, animal abuse will be... recognised as a form of domestic violence, and a grant of half a million will upgrade refuges to become animal friendly so victims can leave violence with animals. This morning I was at a press conference with the NSW Attorney General announcing these groundbreaking new domestic and family violence reforms that will be brought to the House in the coming weeks. These reforms not only recognise the link between animal abuse and domestic violence, but provide resources to overcome many of the barriers faced by victims escaping violence with companion animals. These reforms go a long way in protecting both animal and human victims of domestic violence. But there’s more work to be done in this area. We need tougher penalties to deter animal abuse, and a revision of our tenancy laws to ensure affordable and secure rental accommodation is accessible for families to stay together with animals long-term. The Animal Justice Party are committed to working toward even more reform in this space.
07.01.2022 Factory farming dogs in NSW is LEGAL, but if we act now, we can change this. Sign my petition to end puppy farming today: https://www.emmahurstmp.com/petition_e...nd_puppy_farming Dogs in NSW are at greater risk than ever before. With Victoria and Western Australia seeking to introduce tough new regulations to stamp out puppy farms and stop the overbreeding of dogs, these factory farms are increasingly relocating to NSW where our weak animal protection laws make it easier for them to keep dogs in deplorable conditions. Ill be putting forward legislation to bring our laws up to speed with other states, and ensuring dogs are given the same protection here as they are across the border - but I need your voice to show Government these laws are being demanded by the huge majority. Sign the petition now and together we can end cruel puppy farming in NSW: https://www.emmahurstmp.com/petition_end_puppy_farming

03.01.2022 It has become obvious as to which political party has the answers to the pressing concerns of the day, as the COVID-19 virus sickens human populations with dire consequences for human health, animals, the environment and the economy. Our political leaders continue with the great lie that we can continue to ravage the natural world, use and abuse wildlife to the point of extinction and confine farmed animals for human consumption, without a reckoning. Sadly that reckoning i...s only too obvious with SARS, MERS, Ebola and now COVID-19 killing humans, and African Swine Fever killing millions of pigs worldwide. Only the AJP has a set of policies to deal with the challenges of our time; the biosecurity risks of animal exploitation including the urgent need to end the wildlife trade and factory farming, embrace a plant-based diet and rewild fragmented animal habitat. 02.01.2022 The live animal export industry regulator has granted an exemption for an exporter to travel in the blistering heat that could see Australian sheep cooked alive.... Here in NSW we have been alerted to a new atrocity- with the Western Sydney Airport opening in 2026, the Live Export industry could expand in NSW with air travel. I know we are all feeling helpless. I know it feels like it couldnt get any worse. But history shows us that the Governments brutal and continued support for a cruel and heinous industry will be its undoing. With each vile decision to ignore animal suffering and animal sentience, the industry and government lose the trust of the people. We wont just expose this industry- we will end it. Enough. #BanLiveExport

01.01.2022 BREAKING: Animal abuse penalties are set to drastically increase as we table our legislation tomorrow. Our Bill will take NSW from being one of the softest stat...es on animal cruelty to one of the toughest. Why? Because a $600 fine for bashing a puppy is pathetic. Because no fine and no jail time for beating a mother ringtail possum to death is unacceptable. Our legislation has the Government’s attention. Following our successful motion calling for tougher penalties and our announcement to table legislation, the Government has now indicated they will bring in their own legislation this week, similar to that proposed by the Animal Justice Party. Now with both Houses in NSW Parliament considering legislation to increase penalties for animal cruelty, we’re confident we can achieve major changes. There’s still time to sign the petition and add your voice for this change. Until it passes we have to keep up the pressure: https://www.emmahurstmp.com/tougher_penalties_petition
01.01.2022 The Liberal Government have sentenced koalas to death. A deal has been struck beteen the Liberals and the Nationals that makes farmers and private forestry exem...pt from from the Government's koala policy. Essentially this means that farmers and private forestry can do what they like. This is a disaster for koalas. Particularly for koalas on the north coast. Most koalas between Port Macquarie and Tweed Heads live in trees on private property, and in the already sparse corridors between these fragmented areas of habitat. Our MP Mark Person will fight this. We urge you to meet with your local MP find out more here. https://nsw.animaljusticeparty.org/campai/koala-protection/
01.01.2022 Right now millions of hens are imprisoned in battery cages, female dogs are being held in squalid conditions on puppy farms, and greyhounds are facing a bullet ...to the head because they dont run fast enough. These industries have money, power and secrecy on their side. But the animals have you. You and I are powerful. We know the truth, we speak the truth, and we have taken this truth all the way to Parliament House. Change happens when we demand it. Change happens when we rise up. Change happens when we believe it is possible. I believe we can change the world for animals- because I believe in you. Lets dissolve the cages and shackles that have enslaved animals and caused them great harm. Lets build a KIND world.
