24.01.2022 Voices of Sydney Philharmonia Choirs - Meet Sharon, singing with Festival Chorus since 2018 (and the mum of our VOX twins featured earlier this week) I’m immensely proud of how far I’ve come on this challenging, rewarding journey." In 2018 my daughters, Annabel and Miriam, decided to book me an audition for Festival Chorus. It was a Mothers’ Day present, but I admit it took a bit of badgering from them to get me over the shock and practise for it! ... The effort turned out to be so worthwhile, I never knew I’d have the opportunity to perform in concerts of such scale, with an orchestra, at the Opera House and even with props and acting in Hawaiian shirts (thinking of that very memorable performance of Bernstein’s Candide). I started singing without any musical background and had to swiftly up-skill (with a little training from my daughters). Thinking of this, I’m immensely proud of how far I’ve come on this challenging, rewarding journey. I’m looking forward to many more live performances to come! See more

05.01.2022 Voices of Sydney Philharmonia Choirs - Meet Annabel and Miriam, singing with VOX since 2015 VOX was the place for life-long friendships and a true love for singing." We auditioned for VOX in late December, 2015. After the austere diligence of Year 12, we were keen to ring in a new era of freedom, meet new faces, and experience new musical adventures. ... Our very first gig was with Sally Whitwell at the Independent Theatre. Oof! The glorious wall of sound that a full SATB complement produces... where had it been all our lives?? (Ah yes, we went to an all-girls’ school.) A small confession, though we skipped out on the second performance, absconding to New York to sing with another choir at Carnegie Hall! (Don’t worry, we’ve been faithful ever since!) From there, new vistas of choral tonality opened up as we barrelled through Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess, Bach’s St Matthew Passion, and House music for VIVID in the space of 18 months. Fast forward to February this year with VOX’s biggest emotional challenge, Considering Matthew Shepard. Who could’ve guessed it would be our last live performance before COVID hit? It was the perfect note to end on, though, affirming the fact that VOX was the place for life-long friendships and a true love for singing. And that’s still very much alive, even as we face this strange new reality. See more
