24.01.2022 Congratulations to Susan from our Saturday class on the completion of this little fairy sculpture made for her sister back in Ireland. Susan’s parents had planned to visit and we were going to do the patina while they were here, but COVID upset well laid plans. #fairy #fairysculpture #lostwaxcasting #thingstodoinsydney #cityofsydney

19.01.2022 Term 6 begins the week starting Monday 20th July. Fees are due now. Tuesday 11-2pm Wednesday or Thursday 6:30-9:30pm and Saturday 10-1pm.....Mickey waiting for his friends from the Saturday class to arrive #dogsofinstagram

19.01.2022 Thanks to Clare from our Wednesday evening class for sharing these photos of her work cast in two different types of lead crystal. It’s great to see these pieces under different lighting and in the home. Clare mostly sculpts her originals in wax and has her work cast in glass, bronze, resin and at some point aluminium when our lazy foundry tech gets around to it. #castglass #leadcrystal #lostwaxcasting #sculptureclass

14.01.2022 We are currently working the night shift on an interesting restoration project at Casula Powerhouse. Our sister business Artisan Bronze is a preferred contractor for a few Sydney councils. The restoration work is often challenging and requires some lateral thinking in order to meet the clients needs. We are restoring bronze inlays on the Koori Floor Artwork at the powerhouse. The inlays border some horrendously expensive glass light pools and as such, we are not allowed to mechanically prepare the bronze surface and have to do it the old fashioned way using elbow grease...Two of the inlays will require a modified mobile blast unit which we will fabricate for a single use.

13.01.2022 Some good things have come out of this year. Green turtle in glass by Janine from our Saturday sculpture class...Photos don’t do this piece justice. It is nicely sculpted and the colour is beautiful and looks different in different lighting situations. Our glass is now back in action despite a long hold up and a mountainous backlog of moulds waiting for firing. The glass facility is currently sharing our foundry space which is challenging but not permanent. We have plans to address our current growing pains over the next couple of years. #castglass #turtle #sculptureclass

12.01.2022 Congratulations to Liz from our Tuesday class on her first sculpture sale! It is so rewarding to see people develop to the point where they are selling their work. It is also a great compliment and confidence booster when someone buys a sculpture. Liz is putting the proceeds of her sale towards having some new pieces cast. Stay tuned #silvernitrate #lostwaxcasting #bronzesculpture

10.01.2022 Welcome back everyone! Congrats to Elspeth Forrest, who was delighted to pick up her lead crystal Seal sculpture which Ica was able to finish during lockdown. It’s a lovely piece and will need some careful lighting to show it off. Ica and Mickey are always feeling the love... #sculptureclass #castglass #dogsofinstagram

08.01.2022 Here’s a snippet of a small bronze pour today. Jackie, Chris and One of Jill’s sculptures.

08.01.2022 Skinny cat sculpture by Clare from our Wednesday evening class, passes QC by Archer. This little piece was sculpted in wax with loose modelling over an aluminium armature. It has great cat-like gesture.. Nice work... Clare chose a dark finish and had input into the patina process. It’s great to be able to involve the sculptors in the patination process. We had planned to be running our bronze process courses by now but it will have to wait a while longer.

07.01.2022 Congratulations to Jackie Henshaw on the completion of her lovely bronze water feature. It took some fiddling to get the water to flow through the arms and into the bowl, but it was worth it. This piece was cast in our own foundry and finished here at the studio, with Jackie overseeing the patina. We had to see what the finished piece looked like with water running through it, but we ended up creating a scene from King Kong #bronzefountain #lostwaxcasting #bronzecasting #sculptureclass

03.01.2022 COVID-19 requirements. Now that our classes are back in full swing, we would like to remind everyone to adhere to social distancing measures and to please use the sanitizer gel placed at the bottom and top of the stairs when you arrive. PLEASE DO NOT attend class if you have cold, flu or a cough, or have traveled to any places where there has been a known outbreak. Even if you don’t have COVID-19, you may spread your cold, flu or cough to others who will then not know what th...ey have contracted and may have to undergo testing and or isolation. Masks will be provided for our teachers and students can choose to bring their own mask if they wish to wear one. Masks are not compulsory at this stage. If you attend class with obvious symptoms you may be asked to leave. We desperately wish to avoid another lock down and especially wish to avoid any cases at our studio. Dr Mickey thanks you all for your co-operation #dogsofinstagram #heymickeyyouresofineyouresofineyoublowmymindheymickey #covid19 See more

03.01.2022 We are back! Easing of restrictions means that our sculpture Classes are to resume for term 5 and will begin the week starting Monday 22nd June for four consecutive weeks. Social distancing and indoor gathering restrictions will apply. Class numbers will be capped at eight, plus one model and one teacher. This takes us to the limit of the current ruling, as well as 1.5m spacing between turntables. Those people who were enrolled when the lock-down prevented our last week of te...rm, will receive one class credit to be deducted from their term fees when they re-enroll. Make-up sessions are unlikely to be available as we will breach the indoor gathering limit if classes are at capacity. We will run the Saturday afternoon free time sessions more regularly as an alternative. Preference will be given to those who were enrolled in the last term. Please email or call if you wish to join term 5. Our Wednesday evening and Thursday evening classes had between ten and eleven students, so some people will miss out. Places will be allocated to those who confirm their interest to attend first. Classes on offer as follows: Tuesday 11-2pm with Kim Elliott - Wednesday 11-2pm with Kim Elliott - If we get sufficient numbers Tuesday 6:30-9:30pm - Only if we get sufficient numbers. Wednesday 6:30-9:30pm with Jody Pawley Thursday 6:30-9:30pm with Ica Gvozdeva - This class has a male model. Pete Fairfax has joined us again. Saturday 10-1pm with Sue Alexopoulos. Saturday 2-5pm only if we get sufficient numbers As always, current students have first option to enrol, so some classes may have limited or no vacancies. Please contact us if you wish to enroll. Fees are due one week prior to commencement of term to secure your place. If you are a regular and we don't hear from you and receive your fees, we may fill with next in line. #sculpturestudio #sculptureclass #castglass #lostwaxcasting

02.01.2022 The final restoration stage of the bronze inlays on the Koori floor is now complete. Our blast unit modification worked like a charm and allowed us to obtain a very pleasing end result for the client. We had to don our ghost busters outfits as the other contractors were using some heavy duty chemicals to strip and reseal the floor. It sounded a bit like T-stoff and C-stoff and just the smallest drop on your skin could potentially turn you into soup. We elected to stay well clear of them

02.01.2022 Another skilful piece by Chris Gardner from our Saturday class finished today. Chris chose a dark patina with mottled green highlights. Chris sculpts in brown monster clay over an aluminium armature. Nice work Chris. We look forward to seeing your current piece make the transition into bronze. #lostwaxcasting #monsterclay #sculpture class #prancingica
