24.01.2022 DENTAL IMPLANTS What is a Dental Implant? A dental implant is a fixture screw which is used to replace a tooth root. During a procedure it is placed into the jawbone where there are teeth missing. Following the placement procedure a specialised implant component is attached to offer a final restoration resembling the tooth or teeth you have lost. The revolutionary quality of the dental implant is attributable to its unique biocompatible titanium surface. .... Bone cells will fuse with the outer surface as if it were part of your own body. This process is referred to as osseointergartion and has improved the quality of life of many people all around the world. . The most common two treatment options for the replacement of a missing tooth or teeth are: Implant placement and tooth/teeth replacement i.e. same day surgery and restoration. Implant placement, healing period and tooth/teeth replacement at second stage surgery. Implant treatment is a positive investment in your long term function and confidence. When you lose a tooth, this can often be the start of changes within your mouth, teeth drift and over erupt causing misaligned teeth and difficult to clean areas. Not only is the decision to replace a tooth important, it imperative. Dental implant treatment is the most ideal option for tooth replacement in many situations. . 24.01.2022 Dental veneers can provide a brighter smile with perfectly aligned, shapely teeth. They are custom-made shells of tooth-like porcelain material and when applied over the surface of a tooth they can mask uneven teeth, cover worn tooth enamel or repair chips and cracks. The translucent quality of porcelain offers a more natural look than what has been available in the past. In addition to being aesthetically pleasing, dental veneers can also serve a functional purpose by prote...cting the surface of your damaged tooth. In some cases, veneers may replace the need for a dental crown eliminating the need for extensive tooth preparation. As dental veneers are thin, they require minimal tooth reshaping during the preparation process. They are extremely strong and can last for over a decade, assuming they are properly maintained through regular brushing and regular dental examinations. For more info about dental veneers, please contact our team today. #dentist #dentistry #dentalhygienist

22.01.2022 How often do you brush and floss your teeth? Did you know that regular brushing and flossing is crucial to preventing many tooth and gum diseases? To maintain good gum health you should brush your teeth at least twice daily with a small head soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste, and floss once a day to remove any food caught between your teeth not able to be removed through brushing. ... Attending regular check-ups is also crucial, as daily flossing and brushing can help significantly, professional dental cleanings remove tartar and plaque from hard-to-reach places. Molars and other areas at the back of the mouth may see a buildup of bacteria if patients go too long between dental visits. Need a check up? The ZOOM system uses a combination of light and hydrogen peroxide to whiten your teeth in one or two short visits to our practice. This whitening option is safe, fast and convenient.... The Zoom! light activated gel was developed after years of research by the leaders in professional take-home teeth whitening. 11.01.2022 At Sydney Smile care, we understand. Here are some things you should know about snoring. SNORING & OBSTRUCTIVE SLEEP APNOEA Snoring is a common problem which affects many as they sleep. It can not only be completely exhausting for the person that snores due to the inability to get a proper nights sleep but it is just as bad for the person sleeping next to them. It is caused when the lower jaw relaxes and the soft structures of the throat and mouth drift backwards.... This restricts the airway and creates the fluttering sounds as you continue to breath. Snoring affects approximately 40% of the adult population; it is more prevalent in men than women and has been recorded up to 90 decibels, similar to a model aeroplane! Funny as this may sound, it is no joking matter. One of the major concerns with snoring is the direct association with Obstructive Sleep Apnoea. Why should I be worried: If you have OSA, you are more likely to have high blood pressure and other cardiovascular disease than someone without sleep apnoea. There is also evidence that having sleep apnoea may increase the risk of diabetes, heart attack or a stroke. Sleep apnoea causes motor vehicle accidents People with sleep apnoea are approximately two and half times more likely to have a motor vehicle accident than others. Additionally, if your job involves operating machinery or transport, the risk of accidents becomes high. How is it treated: The majority of the cases are treated with either CPAP or an oral appliance. The oral appliance works best for patient with mild to moderate sleep apnoea. Many patient find an oral appliance is much easier to wear and less intrusive at night-time compared to the CPAP. If you decide on an oral appliance, your sleep specialist will refer you to one of our dentist who specialises in the treatment of sleep apnoea. You will continue to be looked after by both the sleep specialist and your dentist. Contact our friendly team today for more information about how we can help you. www.sydneysmilecare.com.au #dentist #dentistry #sleep #snoring #sleepapnea

08.01.2022 Gum disease is a debilitating and traumatic group of dental ailments that include gingivitis, periodontitis, and pyorrhea. Knowing the signs and causes, as well as receiving early gum disease treatment, lessens your chances of developing severe forms of periodontal disease. With thorough guidance from our dedicated periodontist and hygienist, you can treat your gum disease at any stage. Gingivitis is the first stage or mildest form of gum disease, and symptoms include swellin...g, tenderness, and bleeding of the gums. Often, gingivitis develops from inconsistent or inadequate oral hygiene practices. It can also be caused by tobacco use, medication, or genetics. If you or your dentist detects this ailment in the early stage, you have ample time to treat it and correct the underlying causes by exploring gum disease options at any of our clinics. If left untreated, however, gingivitis can turn into periodontitis, which can develop into chronic or aggressive periodontitis. When gingivitis isn’t dealt with, the result is the loss of supporting structures around the teeth, mainly gum and bone. This then creates pockets, receding gums, and the possible tooth loss. Contact our friendly staff today to book an appointment and keep gum disease at bay! #health #teeth #Dentist

06.01.2022 What is a Dental Implant? A dental implant is a fixture screw which is used to replace a tooth root. During a procedure it is placed into the jawbone where there are teeth missing. Following the placement procedure a specialised implant component is attached to offer a final restoration resembling the tooth or teeth you have lost. The revolutionary quality of the dental implant is attributable to its unique biocompatible titanium surface. Bone cells will fuse with the outer s...urface as if it were part of your own body. This process is referred to as osseointergartion and has improved the quality of life of many people all around the world. Am I a Candidate? In most cases, provided you are at least 18 years of age, are not pregnant and are healthy enough to undergo a medical procedure then you are probably eligible for implant treatment. There is however, some evidence that implants are less successful in patients who are heavy smokers or immune-compromised (e.g. leukaemia, insulin-dependant diabetes) and in patients undergoing chemotherapy or radiotherapy for cancer. Implant Treatment Stages Just like any personalised medical procedure, your treatment stages will be defined by your circumstances and/or situation. Implants can be utilised to replace one or many missing teeth, even a full arch of missing teeth. For us to be able to plan for your procedure and confidently predict the long term functional and aesthetic outcomes, we will require a detailed consultation with you, at which time we will take study models and radiographs to assist with our diagnosis and planning. We may also ask that you attend an oral hygiene appointment to ensure that your oral tissues are in the best possible condition and that in infection is not present. Once the diagnostic phase is complete we can carefully put together a treatment plan for you, with details of the appointment scheduling, a treatment timeline, healing times and any future treatment needs. 06.01.2022 Oral Hygiene A daily oral care routine is the foundation to achieving and maintaining a healthy smile for life. As dentists and hygienists our role is to educate our patients in the care needed to maintain oral health.... Please see the listed recommendations for the care of your teeth and gums: Brush twice a day Using a soft bristled toothbrush and tfluoride toothpaste. You should gently brush using circular motions, be sure to include the gumline areas. You should take special care to reach the inside surfaces of all the teeth, including any hard to reach areas. Floss once a day You should floss between every tooth. The floss should be used carefully so that your gums are not damaged by an aggressive action. The aim is to gently remove any accumulated plaque or food from between your teeth and just below the gum margin. Attend regular visits There is only so much that you can achieve at home.
