25.01.2022 #Repost @captured_by_brett Crater Cove Huts Started off as fishermans huts in the 1920s, in the 60s it became home to permanent residents. In 1984 the area became a National Park and the residents were kicked out as it was illegal to live on national parkland.... The huts have been sitting untouched for 30 years, the previous residents meagre possessions sit waiting as if the owners will some day return.
24.01.2022 Wonderful opportunity to see some of Sydneys hidden history.
23.01.2022 As I was driving home from an appointment last Friday, my young son started crying hysterically in the back. As I have done so many times before, I turned left into a side street to settle him. To my delight, I had pulled over in front of this oasis. A delightful pond complete with a family of ducklings waddling over the bridge. I have driven passed #wileypark more than a thousand times in my life and never knew this was there. I could imagine returning with a book and a cuppa and a picnic rug one day soon. #sydneyssecretplaces #getoutside #neverstopexploring #neverstoplearning
23.01.2022 Are you looking forward to getting outside when the weather clears up? Lane Cove has plenty of bushwalks the whole family can enjoy. In Greenwich, youll find t...he Gore Creek trail, which starts from Bob Campbell Oval. A highlight of this walk is the peaceful Lillypilly Falls, accessible on a short, steep side track. Keep your eyes out for the vigorous Water Vine which grows in a tangle along the track and during this time of year, you will often find harmless Golden Orb Weaving Spiders clustered amongst the lower tree branches. This walk also connects to the bush tracks in Lane Cove Bushland Park. Image credit: B Smith, Lane Cove Captured Photography entrant

21.01.2022 This is the third monument to P.L. Travers / Mary Poppins we have discovered Sydney (and surrounds). 20.01.2022 Sheps Mound. A brilliant spot to sit and watch the hustle and bustle of Sydney Airport. We loved watching the planes fly in and out whilst listening to the plane fanatics around us discuss the ins and outs of every flight and plane. We picked up some Maccas on the way passed #sydneyssecretplaces @ Sheps Mound

19.01.2022 Iconically Sydney.
19.01.2022 It breaks my heart that this is required in the first place. Your thoughts?
18.01.2022 On Friday 31 May and Sunday 2 June, well take you on a harbour cruise back to a fateful night during World War II. Visiting Garden Island on a historic ferry, youll learn about the civilians and naval personnel involved in this extraordinary story.
18.01.2022 Only 4 public viewings a year.
18.01.2022 Cadmens Cottage, The Rocks: the second oldest surviving home in Australia. Like so many important historical sites, its so easy to miss. The juxtaposition of the cottage, once home to Sydney water police, in the foreground and the ginormous Carnival Spirit in the background. #sydneyssecretplaces #sydneylocal #history #herritage #getoutside #neverstopexploring #neverstoplearning
18.01.2022 The storm has revealed the old pylons from the Coogee Pier, which stood in Coogee from July 1928 to 1934, when it was demolished. Treasure hunter, Michael Olive...r, is out there today finding lots of dropped coins and lost jewellery. The one pictured is an old worn out threepence that he found, which was probably dropped when the pier was still standing. See more
17.01.2022 I’d forgotten how great this walk is; mangroves, bush trek, native animals, creeks, rivers, waterfalls. Start in Peakhurst. 16.01.2022 #Repost @clovermoore who wrote: Youve captured this so well, @jacquie.manning! Paddington Reservoir was originally completed in 1866 and a vital source of water for the rapidly growing inner city population until it was shut 1899. The site then had a couple of different lives as garage and a petrol station until we decided to turn it into an urban park in 2006. @tzgarchitects and @jmd_design_sydney is responsible for the design and landscaping, which I like to think of as a blend of the ancient Baths of Caracalla in Rome and the Hanging Gardens of Babylon a little oasis in the heart of the bustling inner east. An empty reservoir turned run-down petrol special and now, a stunning community space I love it.
15.01.2022 Just in time for Summer!
15.01.2022 The Battle of Vinegar Hill. Hands up if youve never heard of it before? Im ashamed to say, that I hadnt either. On this hill, 5 March 1804, the boldest challenge ever mounted against the government authority of Australia took place. Rebel convicts, mostly Irishmen, lead what was the first and only major convict uprising in Australian history suppressed under martial law. Essentially, reports show that around 400+ convicts had escaped from a nearby working farm with ...the hope of sailing home to Ireland. The NSW Corp rounded up the escapees who began fight back in this hill. The place is so named after the original famous battle of Vinegar Hill in Ireland 1798. I had no idea and was thrilled to discover its hidden past whilst visiting the historic home at @sydlivmus collection #rousehillhouseandfarm Highly recommend you visit. #sydneyssecretplaces #history #battlefront #herritage #convict #neverstopexploring #neverstoplearning #australianhistory
15.01.2022 South Head Heritage Trail. What it lacks in distance, it makes up for in views, history and spectacular scenery. The loop track is only 470m but it does incorporate some stairs and slight hills. A great one for kids, especially at this time of year (the height of the whale migration season) so be sure to pack the binoculars into your picnic basket. #sydneyssecretplaces #sydney #sydneylocal #sydneyinsta #instasydney #history #instadaily #instgood #herritage #park #getoutside #neverstopexploring #neverstoplearning #love #photooftheday #instamood #tweegram #picoftheday #igers #beautiful #whalewatching #instagramhub #iphoneonly #follow #igdaily #bestoftheday #happy #followme #fun @ Sydney Heads
14.01.2022 Tambourine Bay walk, Riverview. #loveyourcitysydney We parked at the end of Kallaroo rd and did the circuit starting and finishing there. Kid friendly, dog frie...ndly, playground and toilets at Tambourine Bay Park. I am guessing its 2-3klm long, we took 90 min to do as it is such a gorgeous spot!
13.01.2022 Last week, we went back to Manly Dam for a picnic lunch. We last visited in 2016 and was pleasantly surprised to see a lot of great changes had taken place, including the upgrade of the childrens playground (due to finish sometime soon depending on Covid restriction). The new playground looks seriously awesome for a wide range of ages and abilities! There was also a lot more tables and chairs, shelters, access to toilets and parking. Really is such a lovely gem. Highly reco...mmend you take a visit: End of King St, Manly Vale. In 2016, we took the side quest into the Mermaid Pools. https://youtu.be/eR4KaCVRecU
13.01.2022 Oatley Park. Spent a large chunk of my childhood here (and on that Steamroller!). A wonderfully revamp park for all ages and interests. Bush walks, sports fields, wild play equipment, nature, swimming and more. With the NSW Governments Everyone Can Play inclusive play space guidelines influencing the design of the playground, over 80% of the playground and its play elements are accessible for children of all abilities. History of the park (from the council website): Oat...ley Park and Baths are identified as a Heritage item of local significance. The land was proclaimed by the State Government in May 1888 and was initially known as Peakhurst Park. Hurstville Council was appointed the trustee in 1908 and the park was recognised for being one of the few sizeable areas of waterfront land which was not privately owned. The Park contains a number of historically important elements including archaeological remnants of structures, the sandstone kiosk and lookout known as the Castle which was built during the Great Depression, and the Lone Pine tree near the entrance of the Park. The pine tree was planted in 1920 by Owen John Davies, a WWI veteran who grew the tree from a seed he collected from the original Lone Pine in Gallipoli. Oatley Baths was constructed in 1909 and is significant as one of only a few suspended net enclosures and one of only two baths/pools within the Sydney Region formed by enclosing a naturally occurring shoreline feature. Plan to spend the day here. You wont regret it. #oatleypark #sydneyssecretplaces #history #getoutside #neverstopexploring #neverstoplearning

11.01.2022 Yesterday, we discovered the Ku-ring-Gai Wildflower Garden. Wow. 150 acres of bush, open to the public to play, hike, run, learn, relax and naturally in Australia, bbq. We saw Swamp Wallabies, snakes, lizards, turtles, insects galore, kookaburras and more. The boys loves every second of it. Like always on this page, Ive literally driven past the entrance on Mona Vale road for years and years and years and never noticed it. Make time to visit this place. You wont regret it.... #sydneyssecretplaces #getoutside #neverstopexploring #neverstoplearning See more

09.01.2022 Foundation Park is one of the Rocks best kept secrets. It is one of Australias oldest collections of housing ruins in the centre of the city. The site was one... of the last to be developed in the Rocks because of its challenging topography between 1874-1878. The rocks were so densely populated in the 19th century that every spare piece of land was sought for housing. The rooms in the houses in the park were no larger than 3mx3m. Many of the rooms are filled with models of 19th century furniture which shows how cramped the living conditions really were, also they indicate how the rooms were used. The eight houses were built cheaply and by the 1940s all had been demolished. The site was not built on again and after careful archaeological excavation in the 1990s the original dwellings were brought back to life. All photos by me. See more
09.01.2022 Happy New Year everyone. Heres to more Sydney exploring and discovery in 2019
08.01.2022 A series of interconnected stories and artworks will enliven the 9km Sydney harbour foreshore, from Darling Harbour to Woolloomooloo.
06.01.2022 Barangaroo, Balmain, Sydney Harbour, Glebe Annandale. Beautiful day for a stroll around Barangaroo.
04.01.2022 #Repost @littlegoatfish Looking for a lesser touristic place? The paddington reservoir is the place! It was a water reservoir which accepted water from the Botany Swamps pumping station for supply to parts of Sydney between 1866 and 1899. In 2006 it was converted into a sunken garden and park known as the Paddington Reservoir Gardens or Walter Read Reserve.... . #paddington #paddingtonreservoir #paddingtonreservoirgarden #sydney #australia #downunder #upsidedown #reservoir #garden #water #secretsydney #wanderlust #wanderer #photography #canon #canon750d #reflex #picoftheday #instapic #sydneylife #sydney_insta #sydneyaustralia #ig_sydney #ig_australia #australia_shotz

01.01.2022 We came across this towering landmark at the back of the playground carpark. It looks so out of place. The plaque reads Commemorating the re-enactment of the first church service in Australia on 3rd February 1788. Why its located here specifically, I have no idea given its a very long way from Botany Bay #sydneyssecretplaces #sydney #sydneylocal #sydneyinsta #instasydney #history #churchservice #firstfleet #herritage #park #getoutside #neverstopexploring #neverstoplearning #convicts #photooftheday #instamood #tweegram #picoftheday #igers #beautiful #spring #instagramhub #iphoneonly #follow #igdaily #bestoftheday #happy #followme #church
