23.01.2022 We're getting close to the end of the 2020 season now and it was in a very hot venue that round 8 took place last night. The girls of Sydney Uni were facing UNSW. The girls in gold scored the 2 first goals and were already leading 3-9 in the middle of the first half but a big push from UNSW brought back the score to 11-15 at half-time. The score stayed with a difference of 5/6 goals most of the second half until 25-30 where Sydney Uni players scored 3 goals in a row, only get...ting a one goal response (26-33), and then things went crazy with 6 goals in a row to bring the score to 26-39. Final score was 27-39. Congratulations girls! As a result, Sydney Uni shares the 1st position of the league (11pts) with UTS, with an advantage in goal difference (+52 / +31). Both teams have 1 game against each other left (plus the postponed 6th round) before the finals. The boys of Sydney Uni have met Harbourside. They took the lead immediately, and slowly increased it all along the game. Score at half-time was 11-18. By the middle of the second half, after a penalty for Harbourside (18-28), the boys pushed a series of 8 goal in a row to bring the score to 18-36. The end of the game was approaching and the teams separated at a score of 21-39. Sydney Uni Men is now assured to finish the league in first position, with or without a postponed round 6. The rest of the positions are still to be determined. Congrats boys!

21.01.2022 After a round 6 postponed, last night was the 7th round of our NSW League 2020, where the boys played against UNSW. In a very hot venue, the first half went pretty much one way only. From leading 4-2, the boys went up to 12-2. Thanks to 2 penalties scored by UNSW we arrived at half-time with a score of 14-4 . The second half was more balanced with many goals scored for us from the 6 metres, and unfortunately many shots on the posts or saved by UNSW's goalie. The game still fi...nished with a clear win (28-13). Congrats boys! Sydney Uni is now, with 6 wins out of 6 games, pretty much guaranteed to arrive at the finals in the first position. Still 2 rounds to go and hopefully the postponed round 6 will be rescheduled. The girls had a bye last night, we'll see them back on the court next week.

10.01.2022 Last night was the 4th round of the NSW League 2020 and the boys of Sydney Uni were meeting UNSW. After a slow start allowing UNSW to lead 3-0, the boys quickly caught up at 4-4 and increase the score up to 11-16 at half-time. A great UNSW goalie stopped a lot of the shots, including a couple of fast breaks. The second half was extremely different with 2 long streaks of 6 and 7 goals for the gold and blue and generally a complete control of the game. Final score was 19-38. Co...ngrats boys, well done! In the other game of the night Harbourside took the best out of UTS to win 26-25, pushing them down to the last position of the leader board. The girls had a bye last night while UNSW lost against UTS (27-35), so they stay in 2nd position of the competition. Photos courtesy of Bronwyn Thompson and Marlin Hannam.

10.01.2022 Round 5 of the NSW League 2020 and the boys in gold and blue were playing against Harbourside. After a slow start (3-3), we secured our lead at 9-7 in the middle of the first half and kept increasing it up to half-time (16-9). Thanks to a very active defense and a great keeper in the goals of Sydney Uni, Harbourside only slowly reached 17 goals 10 minutes before the end (31-17), but after a couple of mistakes and misunderstandings on the field, they were able to score 3 goal...s in a row, plus a penalty and another goal, bringing the final score to 34-23. Still a great game with motivated players who kept on pushing till the end of game. Congratulations boys! With this game and our large goal difference, Harbourside is pushed down in 4th place eventhough UTS lost against UNSW (20-21). UNSW confirm their well deserved second place. In the women's game, Sydney Uni girls played against UNSW. If the girls didn't score the first goal (0-1), they managed the first 15 minutes (7-6) and quickly took control of the game with a long series of 7 goals in a row in first half (14-6) and kept pushing in attack till half-time (21-9). The second half was even more under control with only a handful of goals from UNSW thanks to many stop from Sydney Uni's keeper and a non-stopping attack that even managed to end the game with 8 goals in a row (46-14 final score)! A massive round of applause for Sydney Uni's Women team! This great win puts the girsl in the first position of their competition together with UTS (8pts) with the benefit of goal difference (+40 / +23). UNSW stays in 3rd place with 4 points.

06.01.2022 Last night was round 9 of the NSW League 2020. Officially the last round, with still round 6 to be played this Sunday. The boys of Sydney Uni were facing UTS in the first game of the night. The game started slowly but the boys managed to make it to half-time with a comfortable gap (15-8). Unfortunately, UTS goalie injured himself and had to leave the court, replaced by Ben Fogerty. The second half was a bit more agitated with 3 times 2 minutes suspension for the gold and blue...s. It gave the opportunity to UTS to come back a bit (22-19). The rest of the game went a bit better until the end (29-24 final score). Congrats boys, another regular season with no game lost! The girls of SU were also facing their favourite UTS counterparts. First half was pretty tight and if the girls led all the time, it was never with more than 3 goals (6-9), UTS girls even coming to 12-12 thanks to a penalty shot before half-time (12-13 half-time), The second half was loaded with fouls and penalty shots awarded for both teams (10 in total). Still the difference was only 3 goals for Sydney Uni (24-27) before a hard moment for UTS that saw the girls in gold increase their lead to 7 goals (24-31). The end of the game went then slowly to the final score (28-33 final score). Congrats girls it was a great season with at the moment, the best attack (174 goals for) AND best defense (117 goals against). One more round to go this Sunday before the final. 02.01.2022 Round 6 of the season took place this Sunday (postponed from November) to finish the NSW League and determine the final games. The girls from Sydney Uni were due to play against UTS but unfortunately, UTS couldn't put a team together and had to forfeit. Eventually, the leader board before the final is as follows:... 1st: Sydney Uni (17pts) 2nd: UTS (12pts) 3rd: UNSW (6pts) The final will then see Sydney Uni against UTS, one more time! Go girls, finish this season with the title! The boys were facing UTS as well, but this time the game went ahead even if both teams had no subs. The boys in gold started with 3 goals in a row, and were already clearly leading in the middle of the first half (4-12). The following minutes were more balanced and the teams reached the break at 12-20. The boys kept on pushing and quickly increased the score to 13-26. The rest of the second half went a bit slower, probably due to the heat affecting both teams with no subs to recover. Still the boys continued to push their lead and finished on a large win (20-37). With this last game, it's another perfect season for Sydney Uni Boys with 9 wins out of 9 games! Congrats boys! In the other game of the day opposing Harbourside and UNSW, after a tight score lasting up to the middle of the second half, UNSW leading by 1 or 2 goals, a red card for a player of Harbourside (having no subs) created a lot of opportunities for UNSW who also benefited from a few suspensions of players from Harbourside. The final score gave the win to UNSW (26-35). The leader board of men is now as follows for the finals: 1st: Sydney Uni (27pts) 2nd: UNSW (17pts) 3rd: UTS (14pts) 4th Harbourside (14pts) The third place will be sorted between UTS and Harbourside while the title will be played between Sydney Uni and UNSW. See you next Friday for the finals of both Women and Men and a chance for Sydney Uni to win both titles this year! Go boys! Go Girls! Make us proud!
