24.01.2022 Sydney Water will generate renewable gas biomethane for the first time in Australia which has the potential to meet the gas demands of thousands of homes in NSW. The biomethane will be produced at our Malabar Waste Treatment Plant in south Sydney and is a renewable gas from organic material that can be blended with natural gas. It will be injected into Energy infrastructure company Jemena’s existing gas distribution network and could power about 6300 Sydney homes. The project is funded by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency and Jemena.
