19.05.2022 My painting, 'O'Brien's Shearing Shed', currently on show at the Australian Watercolour Institute exhibition at historic Juniper Hall, Paddington, Sydney. It's... our second joint show with Taiwan; the Aussie paintings were in exhibition over there in 2020 but due to lockdowns we've only now managed to get the show up here. See more

17.04.2022 Another copy of a great artist from my Zoom class: Winslow Homer's 'A Canoe in the Rapids'. It was necessarily a quick copy but so interesting to do and so different from my own way of painting.

28.03.2022 I've been looking at some famous and inspirational watercolour painters in my Zoom classes recently. So interesting exploring a style different to my own! This is my copy of Sargent's 'A Tent in the Rockies'.

22.01.2022 A simple technique to build up water with Guy Troughton.

15.01.2022 Soar into a sublime scene today courtesy of a question from our friends at Queensland Art Gallery/Gallery of Modern Art, who asked us, 'What was the first work ...in your collection?' The first vote of money for the purchase of works occurred in 1874, and the Council of the NSW Academy of Art, thinking the sum too small for the purchase of original oils, advised that it be spent on 'original watercolour drawings by living artists'. Thus our first collection piece was a commission for a contemporary Australian artist, Conrad Martens, to paint a New South Wales landscape: 'Apsley Falls'. Visit 'Apsley Falls' and more works by Martens in our online collection here: https://bit.ly/2R1tQWb. And given that it's a very short digital road trip interstate, why not also pop in to QAGOMA and look at the magnificent Martens landscapes of Queensland in their collection? Here, take our car: https://bit.ly/2JqfH0A Conrad Martens 'Apsley Falls' 1874, watercolour, AGNSW collection, commissioned by the Trustees and purchased 1874 #MuseumFromHome #loveNSW
