23.01.2022 Last night was our first grading of 2020. We had our little Cubs the (4-8 year olds) do a fantastic job with their techniques & the Bears (9-14 year olds) showed a strong progression of their skills. We had our first grading for adults in No Gi which is something new for us as an academy but is the direction we are heading as No Gi specialists. As it had been nearly a year since our last grading there was many well deserved blue belts to be awarded. Congratulations to those ...guys as it is a massive achievement to move up to the blue belt in BJJ. The Crescendo to our evening was @Gaia theslaia being awarded her Purple belt and Kelly earning her Brown bet. These ladies train nearly every day and make grown men cry by strangling them and bending their legs in inhuman ways. Overall a massive congratulations to everyone that graded we are so happy to have such a special group of people. 22.01.2022 The young phenom @izaakmichellbjj will be teaching all BJJ fundamentals classes at Sydney West until he leaves to go back to the @renzogracieacademy in NYC. Izaak is trained by @danaherjohn and @craigjonesbjj so has a wealth of knowledge. Make sure you come along to one of his classes. Mon-Fri 5:15pm til 6pm. Also don’t look into his eyes. You will get lost

19.01.2022 Victory last night for the Mixed Martial Arts team. We had @joshuawaltisbuhl and @ryanc_92 fight and win In dominating fashion on @superfightmma Ryan took his debut win with a clean performance and back strangle in round 2. Josh came out in his 3rd fight and put on a perfect performance of striking utilising low calf kicks, takedowns and a smooth controlling ground fighting game. He took a 3 rounds to zero decision. The hard work that is required to fight at a winning level is like an iceberg, much is not seen but lots of great skill acquisition went into these results. Congratulations boys.

17.01.2022 For all the parents out there looking for a Jiu Jitsu session for their little ones, here is a 15 minute class I did with my kids that you can replicate at home. Break it into 3 parts for them and don’t go any longer. They lose interest if they are little. Warmup. ... Technique. Rolling. If you don’t have mats just use some soft carpet or the grass outside. Have fun, can’t wait to see all our classes and students back soon.

16.01.2022 4th quarter grading was a huge success. Our little Cubs BJJ class all performed well. The Bears BJJ class did a great job with Jakub moving up to Grey/Black belt. Our adults program is one of the best in Australia and the team showed up in force. Lots of white belts moved up on their stripes and a huge congratulations to @shaneilsizzle for being promoted to Purple belt. Also a big step up for @bsikimeti and @reecetschirpig for making their way onto blue belt. Another strong year for the team and a big thanks to all the coaches and the parents for making all this possible.

11.01.2022 We have some of our top grapplers competing on @subversion_jiujitsu on Sunday 16th August. @ethanthomasmma is one of the top Blackbelts at Sydney West and @izaakmichellbjj is a Danaher trained Sydney West team member that is the next big prospect in Australian grappling. Make sure you go to the Subversion Facebook and buy the stream to watch the stacked card. As an extra treat the @sydneywestmartialarts head coach @leglocklukeaus will be commentating this event with @sonnybrown from the @sonnybrownbreakdown

10.01.2022 Another weekend of competing for the Sydney West team. Getting the job done once again while head instructor Luke is still in New York. Another massive performance by all and a haul of medals and experience gathered. Big congrats to @kurtosaurus on his first gold in the Advanced division against a lot of more experienced grapplers. Congrats to @shaneilsizzle & @tarazzicpark on closing out the final in their division. Also congrats to @brad262 on taking a gold, silver and bronze with 12 matches. Lots of other great performances and we are all so proud to be part of such a great group of people. It’s also nice you are good at strangling people. Lastly thank you to @oldmatecatto @kevinryman85 and all the others that helped coach the team.

03.01.2022 Last weekend @sydneywestmartialarts hosted the @subversion_jiujitsu live Jiu Jitsu event. This included a qualifier series in the morning with the finalists getting a spot on the live card that night. Out of the 4 weight divisions for the qualifiers the team had finalists in 3 of the 4. On the main card we had 4 grapplers in superfights with all 4 winning and 3 being by submission. Fantastic work by @daavid_s_304 on his first competition ever and making the finals as a white... belt. @fent__ & Connor for an entertaining match. @ethanthomasmma for making the finals but unfortunately not getting to have his match due to complications out of his control. @bobbysandhubjj on a beautiful outside heel hook . @kurtosaurus for a hard fought decision victory. @joshbjj for a flawless GI strangle & @izaakmichellbjj for taking on two opponents back to back and submitting both of them. The Sydney West team just keeps getting stronger & showing why we are the premier No Gi academy. Thanks to @matallicaaa from @mmincvideo & @george__ig from @subapparel for supplying this platform for Aussie grappling. We look forward to the next event. See more
