24.01.2022 SydWests Community Leaders Forum Welcomes Mayor of Blacktown SydWests Community Leaders Forum, currently being held online, welcomed the Mayor of Blacktown, Mayor Tony Bleasdale as guest speaker to last Saturday (22nd August 2020) Forum meeting. Held online, this Forum is one of the bi-monthly meetings of leaders from new and emerging community, supported through the SETS CCB and SydWest Multicultural Services.... The Mayor spoke about the diversity of the Blacktown community and infrastructure development opportunities in the future, including the new university. He addressed how Blacktown Council was committed to addressing local issues impacting on residents, including transport and improving employment opportunities for local residents. The Mayor expressed a willingness to continue engaging with the community leaders to address local issues that they raised. The Mayor thanked SydWest for organizing the forum and encouraged members to join the Blacktown Councils Multicultural Advisory Committee. 23.01.2022 SydWest clients COVID-19 safe and learning together SydWest is slowly moving into face-to-face engagement with our clients, always with COVID-19 safety front of mind. Last week, the Settlement Services Arabic-speaking social support group met at the Blacktown Showgrounds for a session on domestic violence prevention, followed by a Civic Education class. The group also enjoyed the opportunity to socialise and share news after the many months of zoom-only engagement.... Thank you to everyone who follows COVID-19 safety precautions, wearing masks, social distancing and regular hand washing. Our groups will hopefully stay safe and COVID-free with these precautions in place.

21.01.2022 SydWest encourages our creative clients and stakeholders to enter this years Art Prize. The Blacktown City Art Prize is celebrating its 25th year in 2020. Artists across Australia are invited to submit work for the prize, which culminates in an exhibition of the finalists work at The Leo Kelly Blacktown Arts Centre. A total prize pool of $20,000 is on offer across four categories:... Blacktown City Art Prize: $15,000 Aboriginal Artist Prize: $2,000 Local Artist Prize: $2,000 Peoples Choice Prize: $1,000 Finalists in the Prize will be exhibited at The Leo Kelly Blacktown Arts Centre from Saturday 28 November 2020 Thursday 28 January 2021. The work awarded the Blacktown City Art Prize will be acquired for the Blacktown City Art Collection. All other artworks in the exhibition will be available to buy in person or online via the Blacktown Arts website for the duration of the exhibition. Entries close at 5 pm on Tuesday 6 October 2020.

17.01.2022 We have just been advised that a staff member working at Kids Early Learning Quakers Hill long day care centre tested positive to COVID-19. The last day of work for the staff member was Monday 3 August 2020. In line with NSW Health orders, all children, parents, carers, staff and visitors that were at the centre on 3 August are to now self-isolate until and including, Monday 17 August. Any other person that attended the centre between Tuesday 4 to Friday 7 August is requir...ed to monitor for symptoms and get tested if any do develop. It is anticipated that the centre will reopen week commencing 17 August 2020 and will confirm the actual date by the end of the week.

SydWest Multicultural Services is pleased to share that the Glenwood Seniors Social Support Group has recently celebrated their 10 year anniversary. The group today has 55 members, a happy and active group, often singing, dancing or reciting poetry together. They also enjoy cooking, exercising and learning.... With COVID-19 health and safety practices in place, the Glenwood SSG has maintained its regular meeting schedule and moved online! YESS Western Sydney can assist young people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds aged 12 25 years old and residing in in Blacktown, Cumberland, Parramatta and the Hills Shire Local Government Areas to access mental health support. The service includes early identification, and effective, evidence-based interventions, delivered by primary care and specialist providers working together within a collaborative, accessible, and integrated service framework. YESS Western Sydney operates on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays from various locations. YESS is also available in Northern Sydney and in Nepean Blue Mountains through Parramatta Mission.

04.01.2022 SydWest’s Seniors Social Support Groups program has introduced an online Exercises with Accredited Physiologist, Vivarjit Naidu, a volunteer from Sathya SAI Organisation. Vivarjit has a Bachelor of Exercise Physiology from UNSW and has experience in a broad range of conditions including musculoskeletal, neural, metabolic and cardiac conditions. He has also completed a technical lifting course with Australian Combat and Exercise Institute. Vivarjit is passionate about helping ...people with disabilities and promoting exercise for the elderly to improve quality of life measures. He believes in active treatment modalities and empowering individuals to take responsibility in their rehabilitation process to promote long term improvement. The sessions, held Tuesday evenings, are well attended by our seniors, who all eagerly participate and enjoy the sessions.
