22.01.2022 Infrared imaging is an effective tool when monitoring a horse's recovery and response to treatment. It objectively measures inflammatory and neurological processes over a period of time helping to guide rehabilitation programmes.

20.01.2022 Is thermography useful? The simple answer is, it depends. I am using thermography as a research tool due to its ability to assess multiple tissue types. This ...enables assessment of both primary and concurrent issues. Thermography, however, is only useful if correct equipment is used with strict protocols and then interpreted by specialist vets who understand pathology, pathogenesis and pathophysiology and are able to match these with the clinical signs and history. Thermography struggles to become part of mainstream diagnostics due to these factors not being appreciated. If you're considering thermography I would invite you to read my article on the subject. . https://www.theequinedocumentalist.com//equine-thermograph . The company I have the pleasure of being a founding member of is at this link. Vet-IR

19.01.2022 The stifle joint may easily be injured, especially in more athletic horses. The symptoms of stifle problems in horses include a reluctance to place weight on the injured leg, a shortened stride and the horse may drag it's toe and make smaller movements due to the pain. IR imaging may help evaluate and help detect stifle problems.

16.01.2022 Neck conditions have a wide variety of clinical signs which may overlap in individual cases and make diagnosis difficult. Many clinical signs of neck conditions are not so simple and can often include neurological signs, neck pain, and forelimb lameness. Owners often initially present their horses for reasons such as poor performance, fore or hind limb lameness, weakness, toe dragging, abnormal head carriage, lack of neck bend, abnormal muscle wastage or having the neck stuck... in a fixed low position. Adding to the diagnostic challenge, neck conditions can be complicated by other concurrent orthopaedic problems (e.g. low-grade hind limb lameness, back or pelvic problems) or neuromuscular disease, confused with rider issues or due to a horse's young age (e.g. poor muscling, behavioural problems). It is important that when having a horse examined for a potential neck problem, a full clinical examination is necessary. Vet-IR Imaging services may help evaluate signs of dysfunction in the neck. If you concerned about a potential neck problem the first point of call is your vet but when it comes to investigation Equine IR Imaging may help to evaluate nerve, soft tissue and joint changes that will assist the diagnostic stage.

14.01.2022 IR Imaging may be useful to detect thermal changes in the spinal region of horses, making it of beneficial use when trying to localise the site of pain or injury. Radiography may then be needed to confirm the source and the diagnosis.

09.01.2022 IR Imaging can help to detect the early signs of arthritic changes and can also help to monitor changes over time. Many of my regular clients use the technology to monitor their horses to help identify changes and establish the correct time to medicate.

08.01.2022 I had a lovely Sunday afternoon with the gorgeous Whiskey and her owner. Whiskey is a 14yo TB mare, who had a Full Body scan. Her owner is hoping to gain some insightful information that she can take back to her vets and team of equine professionals to assist with further veterinarian investigation and rehabilitation so she can return back to work.

08.01.2022 Reviewing the entire patient in a non invasive capacity before deciding on the next course of action has many benefits. IR imaging is a viable diagnostic tool to add to the toolbox, increasing lameness investigation, treatment monitoring and uptake of early stage detection strategies.

06.01.2022 Veterinary infrared imaging may effectively identify problems in bone as well as soft tissue and may assist in the detection of nerve damage and dysfunction.

03.01.2022 IR Imaging detects the inflammatory processes that are produced when physiological changes start to occur in a joint. The technology can assist owners & veterinary surgeons in the identification of both early-stage and chronic joint disease.
