22.01.2022 Utthita Hasta Padangusthasana.......Lifted big toe pose side variation A challenging balance pose that lengthens the hamstrings, abducts and externally rotates the hip joint, lengthens the adductors, stengthens the legs and fires up the core. There is certainly a lot going on in this pose but variations make it accessible to all. Tip : - use a strap around the ball of the foot if you can’t quite access the toe - use a wall for balance... - bend the knee and hold under the knee with the hand. Challenges : if the right leg is lifted bind the right arm under the leg (lifting the leg even higher) with the left arm behind the back in Bird of Paradise pose Svarga Dvijasana Other benefits include : - calms the mind, alleviating stress and anxiety - stimulates the liver and the kidneys - strengthens the quadriceps - improves digestion Contraindications : lower back injury - hip injury It’s important to take your time here and let go of any labels, fully accepting where you are. Set a drishti, calm the mind and connect to your deep belly breathing. Connecting to your Hara the seat of your power will make the pose more accessible. Most importantly approach the pose with a sense of curiosity and fun. Enjoy. See more
19.01.2022 Can’t find something for the Yogi in your life ? Or maybe your partner needs a little inspiration.
18.01.2022 Our Yoga practice is a path that brings body and mind together. The gift of yoga is just that, a gift you give yourself as a reminder to be present. The ultimate act of self care. During the busy holiday season we can forget this as things are super busy around us and we are easily distracted by the global conversations taking place. We can get lost in the train wreck that is our thoughts. Our challenge is to make time for ourselves both on and off the mat. Because our world will continue to test us, our patience, our tolerance, our compassion. Rather than paying attention to what’s going on around us, pay attention instead to what’s going on within. Connect with each other, care for each other while still and most importantly connecting and caring for yourself.
17.01.2022 This morning we let go of all that is past and welcomed in new beginnings with a collective intentional breath . Making room in bodies and minds to allow our truth to unfold with acceptance not judgement or labels. Noticing the start and the end and all the pauses in between. Thank you for sharing this sacred practice with me and I look forward to welcoming all of you back to the mat soon
14.01.2022 From the experience of 2020 both shared and individual arises a new voice for 2021. Letting go of all that was and embracing the new year with a new drishti, a new sankalpa and a new curiosity. For every ending there is a new beginning. A new season a new year, month, week, day and most importantly a new breath. Each with its own beginning and end and pause in between. It’s in those in between spaces , the quiet spaces that the true self can be found. Join me this Wednesday... at 6 pm and Sunday at 10 am to explore your own endings, beginnings and everything in between. 06.01.2022 Open your heart to bliss with Ustrasana. This beautiful back bending pose is a favourite of many Yogis. Camel Pose engages nearly all the major muscles of the body. It works specifically to tone the thighs and abdomen, stimulates digestion, relieves headaches and improves posture. Incorporating Ustrasana into your practice will open your heart and make you glow with confidence.
01.01.2022 At the beginning of our time on the mat we often set a Sankalpa, an intention for our practice and I usually end our time together with an expression of gratitude. You can express gratitude by setting an intention to appreciate every moment, making your movements an offering, counting your blessings instead of your breath, and focusing on the positive.
