21.01.2022 Spring has sprung! Happy first day of Spring! Such a special time of year with the start of warm season planting and the joy of being in the garden when there is so much growth and vitality. In permaculture we aim to grow as many perennials as possible (plants that grow for many years and are therefore much more hardy and less "needy"), but many if us still love our annuals, plants that only last a season, and unless self seeding, will need some propagation and care. It's time to grow tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplants, capsicum, pumpkin, melons, corn, beans, zucchini, to name but a few. A great seasonal planting guide is from https://www.gardenate.com/ What are you planting now?
20.01.2022 Wonderful job opportunities at the beautiful Conscious Ground

18.01.2022 Vegesafe testing of soil at minimum cost. You receive a report with soil test results, including heavy metals levels. This link is specifically for chicken runs/areas, however they do testing of soils from other areas of your garden too
16.01.2022 On today! Don't forget you can definitely participate, even if you aren't able to bring any produce. We just ask that you make a donation to charity. Our charity of the month is Moo to Ewe Farmed Animal Sanctuary Hope to see you there
16.01.2022 Cheap clothing is as much of a myth as cheap food. When we look at the supply chain it means that the workers are not being paid fairly and often not being treated ethically, with basic workplace rights/human rights compromised. NGOs such as Oxfam are helping shed light on these issues.
15.01.2022 UPDATE: SOLD OUT APPARENTLY! So excited, bucket list moment! For the first time ever Su Dennet and David Holmgren, the co-originator of Permaculture are opening the doors of their property for an online tour this Sunday! What a wonderful opportunity. I've got my ticket

12.01.2022 A wonderful opportunity for the right people! Darren and Kim raise awesome organic seedlings and sell organic produce. They provide a wonderful local service
12.01.2022 They act as a living mulch too and can be "chopped and dropped" as the green for insitu soil building. A pesto is yummy and spicy or you can tone it down with some milder herbs like parsley. The seeds are a tasty peppery treat, I eat them as a pick me up when gardening. The seed can also be pickled to use as a caper substitute. Use the leaves as a grape leaf substitute in dolmades or in place of rice paper in Vietnamese rice rolls. They have such colourful, joyful flowers. And that's just a start...what's not to love about nasturtiums?
09.01.2022 Here's a bit more detail and program for Sustainable House Day
08.01.2022 A wonderful opportunity in the Maitland area if you are a Chef
08.01.2022 UPDATE: THIS COURSE IS NOW COMPLETELY FULL - THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST. No further inquiries can be taken this intake. My heart is full of gratitude for the increased interest in Permaculture. It truly is the way to care for our beautiful planet and all creatures on it, and the ethical thinking to move towards a much more conscious and regenerative future <3 I am very excited to announce that I am teaching an Introduction to Permaculture Course through connected/ live on...line learning with Gosford TAFE, starting in mid October 2020, running one day per week for 9 weeks. We will be enrolling two intakes of this course, one on Tuesdays and one on Fridays, each between 9.30am and 2pm (subject to demand). Classes will include a mixture of theory and practical, covering all aspects of Permaculture; Permaculture Ethics, Design, Principles and Practices. Also included will be organic gardening practices, no dig gardens, composting, worm farming, natural pest control and fertilisers as well as focusing on building local resilience and community connection. Please be aware this is NOT an organic gardening course, though many subjects will relate to edible permaculture gardening, permaculture has a much broader context which the course will cover. Your commitment is attendance and participation 4 hours per week for 9 weeks (3 hours connected and 1 hour self-directed learning with allocated tasks), completion of two supported assessment tasks. You need to have access to a device with a camera and microphone and have basic computer skills such as downloading and saving documents and attaching files to email. This course is Government Subsidised and is FREE of cost to participants. Funding is based on how many students successfully complete the Course. It is open to people living all around NSW. There is an Information Session Online next week and attendance is a step towards being accepted into the course. More details will be provided after registering your interest by emailing Annette on [email protected] or calling our office on 43482278. Register your interest ASAP, as the course is sure to fill fast. Last term we filled all the places on the first day. Please spread the word!
