25.01.2022 Canon in D Major. was composed by Johann Pachelbel in 1680 . It was originally part of a larger piece, a Canon and Gigue for 3 violins and basso continuo,. It has become one of the most well-loved pieces of music in the world. It is a rare piece of music that can help us commemorate the important events and people in our lives. "It conveys hope, meaning, joy and the resilience of the human spirit all without a single word." 10.01.2022 Message from the Artistic Director Welcome to our concert of Soloist Spotlight 2019. In this concert, both of our the Sydney Hills Junior Orchestra and the Sydney Hills Youth Orchestra will demonstrate their great improvements and achievements for accuracy and agility by playing Mozart's full version of " Eine kleine Nachtmusik" and Symphony No. 35 in D Major. Our talented young violinist, Concertmaster, Rachael Gock will play a famous work for violin solo and orchestra by L.... V. Beethoven - Romance in F major Op.50. Thanks to those parents who give these kids the opportunity to be a part of our training program. I am sure this experience will broaden their vision, and to enhance their learning and understanding culture and civilisation of human society, which can benefit them over a lifetime. 09.01.2022 MAYORAL MESSAGE Welcome to the Sydney Contemporary Orchestra’s 2020 program. I’m thrilled that we are now in a position where can once again come together and enjoy wonderful music, produced by our talented locals.... It’s been a tough year, but it’s been a year that has really made us stop, think and reconsider our actions. It’s been a year, where we’ve reclaimed some of our time and really focused on reconnecting with others. And it’s also been a year, where some of us have discovered new talents, learnt new skills or pursued new hobbies. I want to thank the Sydney Contemporary Orchestra for their tenacity throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, and for discovering new ways of sharing their music with others. I also want to thank event organisers, the talented musicians and everyone else who has contributed to making tonight a very special evening. 08.01.2022 About the young solo violinist - Rachael Gock 12 years old young violinist, Rachael Gock is a very gifted young musician as remarked by an AMEB examiner on her Grade 8 exam report: "Your established and developing skills are allowing you to not only provide the technical components, fluently, but also a musicality. Good to hear the variety of your styles in tonal and interpretive contrasts. She has been learning the violin with Dr Koo for about 4 years and now is preparing h...er AMEB diploma exam. Rachael is the Concertmaster of the orchestras of the SCO Youth Symphony. Besides leading the orchestra, she will play Beethoven's famous work for solo violin and orchestra - Romance in F major with the Sydney Hills Youth Orchestra in the concert on Friday 13 December 2019, . 02.01.2022 YOUNG CONDUCTORS MASTERCLASS 2020 With the financial support from the Hills Shire Council, the Sydney Hills Youth Orchestra is going to host a Young Conductors Masterclass in 2020. This Young Conductors Masterclass is designed for young musicians who are interested in conducting orchestral music and who wish to create an opportunity as an orchestral conductor.... The Masterclass includes: - Participating the Sydney Hills Youth Orchestra rehearsals in term 1 and 2 2020; - Under the guidance of Dr Koo to conduct a piece of music. - Conducting the piece of music in the concert at the end of term 2020. Eligibility criteria: Applicants must be: - The Hills resident. - under 30 years of age. - currently studying music at a tertiary institute in Sydney. Will give priority to those with conducting experience. Opportunity to be a conductor of the SCO Youth Symphony orchestras or the Western Sydney Symphony Orchestra in future. Fee: Thanks to the Hills Shire Council financial support to this program, the cost of $1200 will be covered by the Dr Koo Music Scholarship 2020. Quote a few sentences of the examiner's remarks: "Your performance projected a warm and expressive tone, and expressive phrasing, in particular the slow movement of the Mozart Concerto. This moved along well, the phrases were quite musically shaped, supported by good pitch and a variety of tonal colours. Stylistically well understood."
