13.01.2022 Every year in the NSW workplaces, forklifts continue to be a cause workplace deaths and injuries. One of the main reasons why people are killed and seriously in...jured include drivers not wearing their seat belt in a tip-over. Last year, SafeWork NSW issued a worker, Mr Zheng Jin, with a penalty notice for failing to use personal protective equipment (being his seatbelt) while operating a forklift at Sydney Markets, Flemington. Mr Jin elected to have the matter dealt with by the Court. Recently, the Local Court found that Mr Jin was provided with a seatbelt, but he failed to wear it after being given information and reasonable instruction to do so. The Court imposed a fine of $1,000, and made an order that Mr Jin also pay the prosecutors costs of $600. Were serious about forking safety, and you should be too.
