25.01.2022 WERE FAST-APPROACHING A MAGIC MILESTONE The Sporting Shooters Association of Australia is rapidly closing in on 200,000 members and in the past month our Asso...ciation has welcomed 3000 new faces, demonstrating once again how sporting shooters and hunters band together during difficult times. At 199,500 members, SSAA is rapidly growing to form a strong national community of like-minded people, National President Geoff Jones saying its wonderful to see the community pull together during a particularly challenging time for many. Its great that in difficult times (COVID-19) firearms owners are pulling together to support one another, he said. Clearly the SSAAs fantastic range of services, support and representative lobbying are what firearms owners and users in Australia are looking for. More: https://buff.ly/30v7MZr

25.01.2022 We would like to encourage ALL qualified range officers (both active and inactive) to join us for a meeting to discuss a few things to improve the club. Please join us on Sunday 20th September at 10am in the clubhouse. Hope to see you there -Kat

24.01.2022 Don’t forget - watch out for traffic delays at Midway Point this Sunday! Before we can start construction on the Midway Point Intersection Solution, TasNetworks... need to relocate power poles along the Tasman Highway at Midway Point. Works will take place from 7:30 am 5:00 pm on four Sundays - 11, 18, 25 October and 1 November. You should allow for delays of up to 20 minutes, and consider alternative routes where possible. The speed limit will be reduced to 40 km/hr between the approaches of McGees Bridge and the western causeway. Traffic will be controlled by traffic controllers, with only one lane available at all times. At about 10:30 am and 1:30 pm on the Sundays there will be complete closures of both lanes for about 6 minutes each time. More information: https://www.transport.tas.gov.au//midway_point_intersectio

23.01.2022 Thanks to the 20+ members that rocked down to the club today to help out with the working bee, a lot of junk cleaned up and some foliage tamed! Many new faces there, which is terrific to see. The Field Archery course has been mowed and with only a few more target bales to be placed we can get this up and running!

21.01.2022 Our Committee have considered the Coronavirus pandemic as a part of our usual risk management procedures, as the health and safety of our members and of the broader community is our top priority. We understand that Coronavirus will potentially cause significant disruption in the Australian community in the medium term. We understand that the risk to the general Australian population from COVID-19 is low, with most confirmed COVID-19 cases in Australia returned travellers.... All things considered, club activities will continue as normal, however this may well change in the future, and we will keep interested parties notified via social media and email. We recommend that people that are unwell with a cough or fever or other respiratory symptoms, should not attend club events, meetings or gatherings. This is particularly so for people who have recently travelled from overseas. We also understand that if you are concerned or feel vulnerable about this situation, you should avoid attending the range. We recommend everyone practice good hygiene. Good hygiene measures include: -Wash your hands often with soap and water -Use a tissue and cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze -Avoid close contact with others, such as touching For the most up-to-date information about Coronavirus, visit the Department of Health https://www.health.gov.au/ Your primary source of COVID-19 information specific to Tasmania is the DHHS: http://www.dhhs.tas.gov.au/ Regards, Oliver Perkins President Blue Hills Sporting Shooters Club

17.01.2022 Category H update New South Wales SSAA NSW have been in regular contact with the Firearms Registry regarding the requirement of completing attendances. SSAA NS...W have sought exemptions for all members at this time due to the escalating events regarding COVID-19. A decision is expected to be made shortly. Tasmania A spokesperson for the Tasmanian Police said a meeting was held earlier this week and it was agreed nationally that a reduction is justified. Most jurisdictions will be reviewing the requirements on 1 July to determine the impacts on social isolation at that time. A final position for Tasmania is expected to be formed in early July, which is anticipated to be either: a) Pro rata reduction of pistol participation rates based on the impacts of social isolation policy in Tasmania and Nationally (likely to be around a 50% reduction); or b) Complete removal of pistol participation rate requirements for the year 2020 if social isolation policy continues after 1 July. For the time being Category H licence holders can determine their participation knowing that there will be a sensible reduction in requirements based on the health risks to the community. All Tasmanian Pistol Clubs have been advised of this situation and many have decided to close their ranges now that they have the certainty of reduced requirements. Licensees are still required to submit participation rate record cards for 2019. Relevant bodies for ACT and Victoria have been contacted, SSAA is yet to receive a response.
