24.01.2022 Trans Awareness Week is a chance to take the time to celebrate the Trans and gender diverse community, but as allies it’s also our job to make sure we make time... to educate ourselves on the diverse trans experience and take real action to advocate for Trans lives. Today’s education resources are brought to you by TransHub who have just launched a new section to their award winning resource centre, TransHub101. This is your one stop shop for the LGBTIQ+ community, allies and health professionals seeking to better understand Trans identities and experiences. You can view their resource centre here: https://www.transhub.org.au/ The Trans community is strong and resilient. However, our community is strongest when we look after ourselves and one another. One of the most powerful things we can do as allies is take ownership of our continued education and understanding of the Trans experience. This small gesture can ensure that we are there for our community in the way they need it the most. While we understand there is a lot to celebrate this week, we also know that this time of year can be challenging for those in our community. If you are experiencing distress or unwelcome thoughts and feelings, we want you to know that there is always somewhere or someone to turn to. You can access these resources on our website. 17.01.2022 t150 was proud to be involved in this much needed research into the lived experiences of trans women of colour living in Australia from CALD backgrounds and their experience of sexual violence. The report was launched yesterday and will hopefully help address some of the many issues faced by the community and assist practitioners working with them. CW or trigger warning for people who read the report or view the exhibition... Links below to the report and exhibition https://www.anrows.org.au//crossing-the-line-lived-experi/ photo exhibition can be accessed through this link. https://www.crossingtheline.online/

15.01.2022 Today is TDOR Transgender Day of Remembrance. Today is a day for reflection, respect and honouring. A time to reflect on the violence, harassment and discrimination faced by community every day. A time to honour and respect the elders of our community who have gone before us, fought the hard fight so we can be where we are today and join together to keep the fight going. ... Thank you to all the Elders from our community from all cultures who have gone before us. Love and respect to all those who have faced violence or been assaulted or murdered for just being themselves. Below are some sobering global statistics from TMM ( Transgender Murder Monitoring) Remember the majority of violence and murders are not reported or captured in data so this information does not represent the real numbers. TMM Update Trans Day of Remembrance 2020 350 trans and gender-diverse people reported murdered in the last year The TDoR 2020 update reveals a total of 350 trans and gender-diverse people registered murdered between 1 October 2019 and 30 September 2020, representing a 6% increase in reported murders from the 2019 update. TDoR 2020 data shows that: * 350 trans and gender-diverse people were murdered, 6% more than in the 2019 report * 98% of those murdered globally were trans women or trans feminine people * 62% of murdered trans people whose occupation is known were sex workers; * People of colour make up 79% of the 28 trans people murdered in the USA * 38% of the murders took place on the street and 22% in their own residence * The average age of those murdered is 31 years old; the youngest being 15 years old

11.01.2022 Today I learned about......Roberta Perkins. Roberta Perkins (1949 26 June 2018) was an Australian sociologist, writer, and transgender rights and sex worker r...ights activist. Roberta was a trail blazer for Australian transgender people. Having completed an honours degree with her major study a survey of sex workers in Sydney, she later published her work as a book entitled The Drag Queen Scene. This was read by Frank Walker, the then Minister of Youth and Community Services, who asked Roberta to come for an interview. Walker was disturbed by the semi-nomadic lives of young trans sex workers who were being raped, assaulted, harassed and evicted from their homes, unable to use either male or female refuges. Walkers words were, Roberta, we have got to find them a place where they can lay their heads at night. Roberta made a submission to the Minister and he responded by approving a grant of $80,000 to set up the first Gender Centre in Morgan Street, Petersham in October 1983. Frank Walker officially opened the refuge as Tiresias House later that year. Six years on it was renamed the Gender Centre. Roberta left the Centre in 1985 and wrote several books, including Working Girls: prostitutes, their life and social control (Australian studies in law, crime and justice), Call Girls: private sex workers in Australia (with Frances Lovejoy) and Being a Prostitute: prostitute women and prostitute men (with Garry Bennett). Roberta died on 26 June 2018, at the age of 78. There is no way to over-emphasise the difference Roberta Perkins made to the lives of transgender people in Sydney, NSW and Australia. https://gendercentre.org.au//vale-roberta-perkins-1940-2018 #KRChealth4All

10.01.2022 Hey trans folks and community. If you think you need a Covid test come visit the pop up testing site at Albion. Staffed by some of the t150 team. Unfortunately the technical registration system is not trans inclusive ( way beyond our control) but we will make the experience as trans friendly as possible. If you dont have a Medicare card , no problem, its not needed. If you think you need a test, come and get one.

05.01.2022 Study supporting trans kids to be trans . More evidence debunking the false information currently circulating. Allowing and supporting kids to be themselves helps. Denying trans kids existence or not supporting them causes harm. Wear it Purple this Friday . Because our youth are our future

04.01.2022 Sorry its advertising but what a huge move socially . Acknowledged it now means trans folks are now seen as a market to make money out of . Regardless, hopefully this is the first step of many for broader self determination.

04.01.2022 Pain experiences (including pelvic pain) are common in trans men and trans masculine people using testosterone, however, there is little research to help us und...erstand what factors may underlie the pain and what treatment may help to alleviate pain. We invite men of trans experience, trans men, trans masculine folks, and those who were presumed female at birth but do not have a gender that is exclusively female and who are using testosterone, to participate in this study. You must also be over the age of 16 and currently living in Australia. It is important that we hear from people who do and do not experience pain, to gain insight into a variety of experiences and factors that may be causing pain. For more information and to participate in this study go to: www.bit.ly/transformau Step 1: Complete the TRANSform enrolment survey. If you indicate in the enrolment that you are using testosterone, you will automatically be emailed the Testosterone Survey. Step 2: Use the link you are emailed to complete the Testosterone Survey Step 3: Keep an eye on your email for research updates and future surveys TRANSform is a trans-led research project. For further info about the Trans Health Research Group go to https://www.transresearch.org.au/ This research project is approved by Austin Health Ethics Committee and is also endorsed by ACON and Thorne Harbour Health. (Image description: This advertisement features images of four trans men or trans masculine people of different ages and ethnicities. 02.01.2022 THIS FRIDAY IS TRANSGENDER DAY OF REMEMBRANCE Poster art by Rosa Curtis - This painting was commissioned for the Transgender Day of Remembrance as a symbo...l of the trauma and negative impact which was experienced by Sistergirls and Brotherboys as a result of colonisation. This painting represents the strength, courage and determination from the indigenous community who are still experiencing ongoing oppression and stigmatisation across Australia. Friday's Transgender Day of Remembrance broadcast starts at 7pm here on Facebook. We invite you to watch at home, light a candle and reflect with us on the friends and family we have lost.
