05.01.2022 MEDIA RELEASE 5 Dec 2012 Ta Ann Tasmania committed to further value adding in Tasmania The benefits and the importance of the Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) legislation to the timber Industry and regional Tasmania have been recognised by all stakeholders. It will provide certainty and durability to Tasmania’s forest industry and to domestic and international markets. The legislation will also provide the certainty for further value adding investment.... Group Managing Director KH Wong congratulated the parties to the agreement We are pleased that for the first time ever in Tasmania there is a plan that has the support of the key Parties who are vitally involved in the forestry sector each and every day. Ta Ann Tasmania forms part of the vital integration link between sawmills and residue markets that brings sustainable financial viability to the whole forestry supply chain. As a result of reduced Contract log supply from Forestry Tasmania, Ta Ann Tasmania will be seeking certified log supplies from private forest growers. This will provide a much needed boost for private forest owners. The passing of the legislation will restore confidence to the industry and allow it to consolidate and grow for the future benefit of all Tasmanians. The Group Managing Director announced that should the legislation be passed the company will have the confidence to commit to building a new Plywood mill, to be based in northern Tasmania. It is expected construction could begin within six months subject to the support of local Authorities for the necessary statutory approvals. The Group Managing Director appeals to the Legislative Council to support the forest Agreement Legislation to support industry to move forward in a sustainable way. This is in contrast of the likelihood of being forced to close the mills without the legislation See more
